Following up on some nostalgia from here, I thought it would be interesting to look at what was probably the earliest coordinated project to develop a Lego CAD system—what should have turned into LDraw, but for some reason, didn't:

It's not the very earliest post on the topic, but it does go into remarkable details about how the program would work, how it would be developed and by whom. This project was spearheaded by Alex Devries (who credits Hayes Harper for the original idea).

Like I said, this appears to be the beginnings of what would become the LDraw project…but it isn't. So I'm wondering about a few things:

• What ever came of this project? Did any code ever get written, in any meaningful amount?
  
• Was the mailing list set up for this project the precursor to the LCAD list that gave rise to this forum, or was it always totally separate?
  
• How similar is this proposal to what James ultimately put into LDraw/LEdit, and how is it substantially different?
  
• Are there capabilities proposed in this system that never quite made into the LDraw format? (For example, it seems that interactivity was conceived as part of the language, so that the motion and speed of a part in a model would be recorded in the model's source code.)

Thoughts:
This was a banner year for LDraw! We released a record number of new parts this beating our previous record by almost 500 parts. This is all due to the continued efforts of our parts authors and reviewers. Without them, the library simply wouldn't exist. I was unsure of myself when I volunteered to fill the Admin spot as Chris's legacy loomed large. Now that I've done the job for a year, I have a deeper appreciation for all of his effort. Thanks again to Chris for all the years he steered this huge machine.

The coding is mostly finished with a few rough edges to sand off and some additional features to add back in. The "go live" date is still TBD but I'm shooting for the beginning of February. I'm focusing on feature parity with the old PT. Once that is done, I can start adding refinements. Eventually the OMR and the Documentation parts of the LDraw site will move here as well but that's in the future.

Broken threading is getting out of hand. Rather than try to bolt on a fix to what is already a custom plugin, I'll be changing the forums to flat posting style starting Saturday, 1/7. This will get us used to the transition since the next version of the forum software will not support threading.

Top had "cgi?s", and id broken, meanwhile bottom works fine and has "cgi?f"

Could that be fixed?

Among the 32533 patterns, there are basically four types of prints. First one are the Throwbot disks, second are the Metru disks, third are Toa Mata mask disks, and fourth are basically every other disk - Vakama disk, Mindstorms disk and Vahi disk

The Metru disks already got designated pattern numbering - it's the same number as the one written on the disk. I guess same can be applied to the Vahi disk, it has "199" written on it. But what about rest of the disks? Is there a set way to number those already? Or not yet?

Hello everyone! I am currently going through old lego from my dad and found a lot of 50s or 60s lego. I found an arch piece that looks like an old lego piece, but I am unable to find it on bricklink or rebrickable. No idea if this piece is in the LDraw library though. This arch piece is a 2 x 2 x 8 and hollow. I have stacked two old bricks to confirm the height just in case. Does anybody know if this is a real lego piece or not? I have pictures comparing an old 2 x 8 hollow piece with the arch piece next to it. I asked my dad if he knows if the piece is from lego. He does not know for sure, because he was too young and does not remember.



The studs look really similar on this picture, but the arch looks like to have a more clearer print. The print does exist on the 2 x 8 piece, but more subtle. On rebrickable some pieces do have a more clearer print on the stud like the arch. This made me interested in looking this piece up.



The arch looks somewhat different from existing arches on bricklink and rebrickable. No idea if this would mean anything, but this piece has a higher arch gap than newer arch pieces.



The hollow side of the piece is more interesting to me. I have put a second arch piece next to it as well, because the hollow side looks a bit different.

Does anybody know how to verify this piece and if this is lego? Please let me know if you want more pictures of this piece if necessary.

I noticed that there is a new 3x3 corner plate in this set, but it is square
Also there is a new 6L threaded pole which can accept a 2L in order to join several of them together.
And of course, ther eis a brick which can slide along the threaded pole.

I don't have part ID's yet because its part inventory is not on brickset, I'lll keep trying in the meantime.

So basically the corner plate should be easy to make because its just a 3x3 version of part 2420.
This video does show the parts in a speed build and the axle hole for the threaded pole is just 1L.

edit: Oh wow I just noiced 2 new base plate types!!, these are basically like parts:
15623, 15624, and 18922 except they are fully studded and don't have the overhang.
and parts 71772 and 69958 are like fully smooth versions of 18922 and 15624 respectivley

Hello friends.  I just updated my analysis of the Most Common DUPLO Parts to reflect the parts produced in sets released in 2018-2022.  I did discover that two brand new parts (released in 2021 and 2022) have skyrocketed into the top 20 list.  (There are some other appealing parts which are missing including three more in the top 50 list.)

Here are some of the key missing parts:

• 17th place - 84195 - Duplo Plant, Flower with 1 Top Studs
  (You would have 56x in 4 colors if you bought every set in last 5 years)
  
• 19th Place - 70676 Duplo Brick 2 x 2 x 2 Slope
  (You would have 52x in 7 colors if you bought every set in last 5 years).
  
• 47th - 51703 Duplo Wave (Fire, Water, Flame) 2 x 1 x 5 with Non-Marbled Tip
  
• 49th - 65109 Duplo Tile 2 x 4 with Wood Grain Pattern
  
• 50th - 31195 Duplo Ball Tube 45deg Turn
  
• 52th - 31452 Duplo Ball Tube Straight
  
• ...
  

By any chance, does anyone happen to have list of parts affected by axlehole overhaul? Wanna properly update all the things in Studio for myself, and I need list of those for the task
