3847a Original Yellow Castle Minifig Sword - Thom Kok - 2023-07-10 Hey guys! I would like to request this sword from the 375-2 yellow castle set: https://rebrickable.com/parts/3847a/weapon-sword-shortsword-shiny-solid-smooth-abs/ Since I prefer being as accurate as possible in Bricklink Studio, is this the reason for this request. The normal variant is found here https://library.ldraw.org/official/7278 I hope somebody would like to create 3847a. RE: 3847a Original Yellow Castle Minifig Sword - Orion Pobursky - 2023-07-10 I'm not seeing any visible difference between 3847 and 3847a RE: 3847a Original Yellow Castle Minifig Sword - Gerald Lasser - 2023-07-10 (2023-07-10, 22:14)Orion Pobursky Wrote: I'm not seeing any visible difference between 3847 and 3847a Bricklink has a fairly good comparison. https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=3847a#T=C BL describes 3847a as "rigid ABS", it is shinier and the edge line on the blade seems more prominent. While the 3847 seems to be from a softer plastic and had a duller surface. But that is not something we can influence as don't have material/surface properties. RE: 3847a Original Yellow Castle Minifig Sword - Orion Pobursky - 2023-07-10 Exactly. I think 3847a can be an alias of 3847 if it's really something we care about. RE: 3847a Original Yellow Castle Minifig Sword - Orion Pobursky - 2023-07-10 Here's the comparison (from Bricklink): These variants are functionally identical. RE: 3847a Original Yellow Castle Minifig Sword - Thom Kok - 2023-07-11 Thank you for your answers. I think an alias could be a good option. I think I will use the 3847 sword then. Based on the graph here: https://rebrickable.com/parts/3847/weapon-sword-shortsword/ We need to make a b-version without the centre edgeline on the blade. 3847a (RB and BL) is the first version in production. Shiny, solid, hard plastic, with an edgeline along the blade. We need to: move our 3847 to 3847a.dat Make a new part, as 3847b.dat. Rough surface, softer plastic, without the edgeline. and then, perhaps someone will make the modern redesign, 76764. RE: 3847a Original Yellow Castle Minifig Sword - Orion Pobursky - 2023-07-11 I'm skeptical of the value of expending the effort to make a new part with no functional difference and where the visible difference is so small as to not really matter. That said, if this is the route we want to go down then 3847 should move to 3847b and 3847a should be new part variant. RE: 3847a Original Yellow Castle Minifig Sword - Thom Kok - 2023-07-12 Since it is not clear yet to do this change or not, I reverted the prefix and post icon for now. |
