OMR Model Render
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2019-07-15, 1:55 - Forum: Website Suggestions/Requests/Discussion - Replies (61)

Now that I've implemented Lasse's WebGL renderer on the PT, what is the feeling of expanding it to the OMR? Is anyone particularly attached to brigl? Why?

  Custom road baseplates
Posted by: Michael Horvath - 2019-07-14, 13:29 - Forum: Parts Author Tools - Replies (4)

I am thinking of recreating this in native LDraw format:

http://lib.povray.org/searchcollection/i...Tag=SharkD

I plan on using bitmap textures for the surface features just to make things easier. I have one question though: does LDraw support repeating textures, or are they just one-offs? Thanks.

  Loading image or drawing circles
Posted by: Ed Bardet - 2019-07-13, 14:48 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (1)

Does any package have the ability to load and scale a drawing to serve as a plan? Does any one have a feature to allow a drawing of a simple shape, a circle, on a base plate to serve as a template?

  MLCad.ini 2019-01 update now available
Posted by: Willy Tschager - 2019-07-13, 9:40 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - No Replies

Hi folks,

I just updated the MLCad.ini file accordingly to the latest LDraw.org parts update 2019-01. The .ini file defines (among other things) the parts available in MLCad's, LEOCad's and Bricksmith's minifigure generator.

Download the file from my website: http://www.holly-wood.it/mlcad/mlcad_ini-en.html

Bye, w.

  Incorrect parts
Posted by: Alfred Schmitz - 2019-07-12, 15:10 - Forum: Parts Authoring - No Replies

Hello together,

Found 2 little faults:

1) Official part 32333.dat:
I think the understuds are a little bit too long.

.jpg   part_32333.jpg (Size: 13.33 KB / Downloads: 28)

2) Unofficial part 3960p0e.dat:
Here the colors green and yellow are reversed.  DONE!

I think there is no problem to correct them.

(Tanks and greetings to Philippe Hurbain who helped me time ago)

Hello again,

I've located the error in the official part file 32333.dat and added the hint.

Bye

Converting a Large Scale Project into a generic 3D format
Posted by: kevlamar - 2019-07-12, 0:36 - Forum: Rendering Techniques - Replies (13)

I am working on a very large lego project that has grown to over 100,000 legos. (See the attachment) My ultimate plan, after i populate it with people and vehicles, is to create a high quality video of the project flying over it like a drone or any other way i can capture it on video. My problem is that LDraw does not have the capablility to do a high quality rendering and fluid movement needed to make a fly over video.

Henceforth i would like to be able to convert the whole project into a generic 3D format that would allow me to open it in other 3D programs that would give me more flexibility in filming something like this.

any help i could get with this would be very much appreciated.

the town is Montgomery, Indiana if anyone was wondering.

  BFC and parts
Posted by: Michael Horvath - 2019-07-10, 22:37 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (8)

Is there a tutorial on how to fix/add BFC in parts? E.g. tools to use, workflow, etc.

Brick 1 x 1 with Clip Vertical (Thick C-Clip) and Hollow Stud
Posted by: Jaco van der Molen - 2019-07-10, 6:38 - Forum: Part Requests - No Replies

Hi all,

Part 60475b Brick  1 x  1 with Clip Vertical (Thick C-Clip) and Hollow Stud is on Bricklink part 30241b (Brick, Modified 1 x 1 with Clip Vertical (open O clip) - Hollow Stud).

Part 30241b does not exist in the LDraw library. Should we create an alias for this?

I guess there are more parts like this?

Jaco

  Materials swap system
Posted by: Michael Horvath - 2019-07-09, 20:22 - Forum: Rendering Techniques - No Replies

For my POV-Ray scenes I have a created a system whereby you can take geometry generated by Program A and apply materials generated by Program B. For instance, I have geometry generated by LDView and materials generated by LDCad. You can see it in action here:

https://github.com/mjhorvath/Mike-LDraw-...ter/povray

See this test wrapper file for a simple example:

https://github.com/mjhorvath/Mike-LDraw-...esting.pov

There are additional sets of materials I have modified to include support for blurred reflections and subsurface scattering.

I got the idea from Damien and expanded upon it. This system is also in use in Datsville currently.
