  LGEO/LDBoxer folder structure
Posted by: Michael Horvath - 2019-07-09, 13:55 - Forum: LDraw File Processing and Conversion - No Replies

Currently, all LGEO parts (except Anton Raves and Darats STL parts) are stored in "lgeo/lg". So there's no need to worry about sub-parts or primitives located inside sub-directories. However, when one is utilizing the LDBoxer library, boxed parts are stored in the "ldraw/parts/b", "ldraw/parts/s" and "ldraw/parts/s/b" directories. Here are some examples from one of my models:

Code:
1 0 -170 -224 -90 0 0 1 0 1 0 -1 0 0 b\a2339.dat
1 0 170 -224 -90 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 b\a2339.dat
1 0 -190 -128 100 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 b\a3004.dat
1 0 -190 -104 100 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 b\a3004.dat
1 0 -190 -80 100 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 b\a3004.dat
1 0 -190 -56 100 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 b\a3004.dat
1 0 190 -128 100 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 b\a3004.dat
1 0 190 -104 100 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 b\a3004.dat
1 0 190 -80 100 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 b\a3004.dat
1 0 190 -56 100 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 b\a3004.dat
1 0 190 -200 100 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 b\a3004.dat
1 0 -190 -200 100 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 b\a3004.dat
1 0 -190 -224 100 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 b\a3010.dat
1 0 190 -224 100 0 0 -1 0 1 0 1 0 0 b\a3010.dat

Each of these boxed parts is located in the "ldraw/parts/b" directory.

What would be the best way to deal with these sub-directories within files like "lg_elements.lst" and "LGEO.xml"? I'm not sure what the best solution is, especially given the number of programs that rely on "lg_elements.lst" and/or "LGEO.xml" to behave in a certain way, and would likely need to be reprogrammed as a result. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

request for CERT votes for obsoletized physical shortcuts
Posted by: Steffen - 2019-07-09, 1:13 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (5)

Hej,

we recently decided to no longer deliver physical color parts inside the main library.
Instead, that would be a separate download.
Physical color parts are such which do not have color 16 but instead carry a hardcoded color,
so only can be used in that one hardcoded color.
Having such files has its own uses, for example for set inventories.
However, would we allow those into the main library, then the library would explode in size,
with lots of duplicate parts which only differ by their hardcoded color.
That's what color 16 is for.

For this reason, we are obsoletizing all currently official physical color parts.
They all are on the PT now.

I am asking you to help voting CERT for them, so they can get into the next parts release in 1 go.

Here they are. Most just need 1 more CERT vote:

many thanks!

3D Part Preview added to Parts Tracker
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2019-07-08, 22:40 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - Replies (143)

A 3D part preview has been added to the part detail pages on the Parts Tracker. If your machine is WebGL capable then you can click on the 3D View link on the menu to see that part in 3D. This feature is powered by brigl (https://github.com/HazenBabcock/brigl). Please report any bugs in the Website Discussion forum.

Known bugs:
- Mouse button actions not registered if done outside the model container (e.g. if you release a mouse button with the pointer outside the model container then if you reenter the container it behaves as if you never released the button)
- Direct colors don't work properly

Thanks,
Orion

  Stickers for set 10266
Posted by: Jaco van der Molen - 2019-07-08, 13:32 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (6)

Hi all,

I am making progress in creating the stickers for set 10266 (the Lunar Lander)

But now I am totally in the dark for the partnumber.
I submitted 3 simple stickers the the tracker, but apperntlythe part number is still wrong.

Since I still do not own the set I am working from images of the stickersheet found online.
I must have seen atleast one version that had 134071 on it somewhere, so I took that as partnumber with letter suffix, a, b, c... h, i  for the sticker number.

Now I found another scan of the stickersheet that has number 65305/6279911 on it.

Please enlighten me on what number to use and how to name these parts?

Judging Magnus' hold comment:
https://www.ldraw.org/article/339.html
"The part number for the flat sticker part is the SKU from the edge of the sticker sheet with a single letter suffix. Each different sticker from a single sheet should have a unique suffix. [...] Stickers from sheets with combo 5-digit/7-digit numbers should use the 7-digit number. "

It must be 6279911?

So sticker number 8, 9 and 13 should be 6279911h, 6279911i and 6279911m

Oh, and can the parts with the wrong number be deleted please:
134071a08.dat
134071h.dat
134071i.dat
134071m.dat

Or rename the last 3?

  (Complete) LDraw.org Server Fundraiser
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2019-07-04, 15:58 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - Replies (2)

Update:
Thank you to all who contributed. This year's fundraiser was a success in less than 12 hours. We truly are grateful for all of our supporters.

Original post:
As some of you may know, last year we switched to our own server after 14 years of having server space donated to us by Peeron. We humbly ask our users and project contributers to help defray the server costs. In the interest of full transparency, here are the details:

Server host: Dreamhost
Server plan: VPS (2 GB RAM, 60 GB Disk)
Server cost: $330/yr

Domain registrar: Dreamhost
Domain cost: $15.99/yr

We are asking for $345 in total and have chosen GoFundMe as the donation method. Since we do not have a registered organization and no bank account, Orion Pobursky will be handling the funds after the campaign ends. The campaign will end as soon as we reach our goal and we do not want to collect any excess.

Thank you to all those who contribute.

Stud.io > Existing Parts with Modification (Delta to LDraw Lib)
Posted by: Gerald Lasser - 2019-07-04, 10:45 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (1)

When I did the Quantum Realm Explorer and rendered it, I came across the Barrel (2489) that looked awful in the rendered image.

I then made the new barrels for comparison based on the 2489 that we have in the official library.

I rendered the image and due to Prim-Subst there were gaps in my barrles, but not in the 2489 (which Stud.io took from its own library)
Examining the part then revealed that someone has changed the top Quads to Ring-Primitives...
The history section in the file still was the same as in our library.

Did you come across such edits with other parts?

BTW: Which barrel shall I upload? the one with rectangular cuts between the single staves (middle) or triangluar cuts (right one)

Color coding for PT submit result

Could it be possible to color code the result of PT submit?

"1 file has been submitted successfully." in Green

  LPub3D: Output resolution change?
Posted by: Philippe Hurbain - 2019-07-01, 13:12 - Forum: LDraw File Processing and Conversion - Replies (21)

Is there a way to change output resolution of LPub3D to generate the same building instructions with a low resolution for web usage, and high resolution for printing purpose?
Configuration -> Build instructions setup -> Project setup -> resolution almost does the trick but completely changes the layout because font and image sizes are changed too!

  Patterned Baseplates
Posted by: Matthew Renner - 2019-06-30, 16:39 - Forum: Part Requests - Replies (17)

Hi,

Is anyone here currently authoring or intend to author the following baseplates?

http://peeron.com/inv/parts/2552px3
http://peeron.com/inv/parts/2552px4
http://peeron.com/inv/parts/6024px2
http://peeron.com/inv/parts/2359px3

I've only recently submitted my first part and all the parts I've done via LDraw I do manually and, as you can imagine, is very time consuming.  For those experienced in designing official parts, is there a more efficient way to author elaborate parts such as these (with heavy detail), such as 3D scanners or some other software?  Thanks.

request for 1 new column on Parts Tracker on page "My Reviews"
Posted by: Steffen - 2019-06-30, 11:26 - Forum: Parts Author Tools - Replies (5)

hej,

would it be possible to add 1 more column to this page
https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/tracker/myreviews.cgi
?

It would be nice to see the text of the review.

This would facilitate the task "check my old hold votes from many months ago"
a lot.
