More common parts missing from LDraw (Bionicle/Clickits)
Posted by: tom alphin - 2024-06-28, 23:35 - Forum: Part Requests - Replies (18)

I'm trying to expand my LEGO Parts Guide to include more vintage parts, and hope to add a publicly visible mode to browse the most common retired parts sometime soon!  I do not want to do that until I've added as many common vintage parts as possible, and some of them are missing from LDraw.

This thread includes those parts in top 500 most common parts for any 5-year period that are not in LDraw collection yet.  I hope this helps inspire folks to fill in some gaps in the LDraw parts library!

2024 Parts
This looks at just sets released so far this year, and helps elevate the most popular new parts so folks can consider adding them to the collection... (Ranking will fluctuate a bit every time new sets are inventoried.)

Current Parts 2020-2024
There's only one part in the top 1000 current parts not already in LDraw, which is pretty awesome!
2010-2014 (parts 1-500)
2005-2009 (Parts 1-500)
2000-2004 (parts 1-450)

(I will continue from here in a future update to this post...)

Sincerely,
---Tom

How to toggle or suppress snapping?
Posted by: N. W. Perry - 2024-06-28, 0:18 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - No Replies

Say, is there a way, when creating a triangle or quad, to temporarily disable snapping to nearby vertices (for example, by holding down a key)? I have some vertices that I want to use as guides, but not snap exactly onto them. But there are other times I do want to snap, so I don't want to disable it altogether.

  Weird quote behaviour

Lately I'm getting some unwanted quoting of (very old) previous messages in threads while replying, like:

It's a reply to CAM but It also quotes a very old message from NW  Perry

  LDraw All-In-One-Installer 2024-01 v1 now available
Posted by: Willy Tschager - 2024-06-27, 10:45 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - No Replies

An updated version of the LDraw All-In-One-Installer, in short AIOI, containing the LDraw Parts Library Updates from 2023-07 to 2023-04 with 1396 new files has been released.

The AIOI supports Windows XP (Home and Pro), Windows Vista or higher (all versions). There are two installer files available: Use the 64 Bit AIOI to install all the main 64 Bit programs, while the older 32 Bit programs are offered in a separated .exe file. Please note that only the 64 Bit version contains the LDraw Parts Library. If you want to use the 32 Bit programs it is mandatory that the library has been installed previously. The Installer will NOT run on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT Ver 4, 2000, or XP below SP2.

It contains the following changes:

* Update to LDCad 1.6d2
* Update to Parts Library 2024-04
* Update to MLCad.ini 2024-04
* Update to Offline Parts Catalog 2024-04

You can download the AIOI from:

LDraw.org >> Help >> Get Started >> Windows >> LDraw All-In-One-Installer

Many thanks to all the programmers who contributed to this release.

  Partsnapping difficult sometimes
Posted by: Jaco van der Molen - 2024-06-27, 10:11 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (16)

Hi all,

Currently I am working on a model that features parts like 95228 minifig bottle and 64644 minifig telescope.
I am frustrated by the fact that snapping seems to mainly attract to the top stud instead of the bottom one.
It is extremely difficult to snap the bottom (anti)stud of the bottle of telescope to a stud of a ie. a plate.
LDCad seems to react primarily to the top stud? Especially when there a lot of studs to choose from.
Alas placing this part on top of another part with a stud is very hard.

If you know what I mean and experience this too, is there something you can do about that?

For now I don't even try putting it on and live with it to snap it to the bottom of the model and just move it up ;-)

The same goes for the 1x1 round plate with/without hole 85861 and 6141. Very hard to snap.
Or is it me?

Thanks for reading and for answering or tips.

Jaco

Incorrect clip placement on part 30259
Posted by: Reid - 2024-06-26, 0:40 - Forum: Official Models - Replies (3)

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this (please let me know), but I've found a problem with the model for part 30259.dat (Roadsign Clip-on 2.2 x 2.667 Triangular). It's an older version of the more modern 65676.dat. The 30259 model has the clip positioned near the centre of the piece, but photos of this piece (see bricklink page here) clearly show the clip to be located closer to one edge of the triangle.

This is an older model, so I'm not sure how it could have gone so long without being noticed. Perhaps there is another mould variant?

I discovered the issue when I was trying to use yellow 30259s (65676 is not available in yellow) to create the Triforce for a Legend of Zelda MOC, and the erroneous clip position became apparent only after I had bought the parts. I was still able to make it work, but not the way that stud.io said it would.

New red panda from Jungle Explorer ATV set
Posted by: George Nichols - 2024-06-25, 22:53 - Forum: Part Requests - No Replies

Hello! I'm new to this community and wanted to try my shot if anyone might have any information or skills to offer.

Recently, set 60424 released. I really love using Bricklink's Studio software to do remote builds with my friends, and would love to surprise one of them with a cute tree with lots of the new little creatures. They really like red pandas, and seeing this new model/piece would really delight them.

the piece number is 106597pb01 / 106597pr0001 (not sure which, rebrickable has a few options)

I had done my best using bluestacks android emulator to dump the files from the LEGO Builder app, and learn how to do this myself. I believe I got a considerable ways in but at some point just got lost with the amount of information and skills required to accomplish something like this.
I do have an fbx file, png texture, and a few other goods on hand.

I'd be really glad to see this little guy in usable form. If there's any information, answers, or files I could try and provide please let me know, thank you!

  MLCad.ini 2024-04 update now available
Posted by: Willy Tschager - 2024-06-23, 11:16 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - No Replies

Hi folks,

I just updated the MLCad.ini file accordingly to the latest LDraw.org parts update 2024-04. The .ini file defines (among other things) the parts available in MLCad's, LEOCad's and Bricksmith's minifigure generator.

Download the file from my website: http://www.holly-wood.it/mlcad/mlcad_ini-en.html

[LDPatternCreator] Release 1.7.6 (improved triangle auto-completion)
Posted by: Nils Schmidt - 2024-06-22, 21:59 - Forum: Parts Author Tools - Replies (2)

Hey,

this version improves triangle auto-completion with a collision check against reference lines.
I also added Ctrl as a suppressing key for deactiviating the active triangle auto-completion (hold Ctrl).
And it fixes minor quirks with the auto-completion feature introduced in version 1.7.5.

Download and install the latest LDPatternCreator release directly from sourceforge.net.
Any previous version should be uninstalled first. Your program configuration will be preserved.

Change log:

New features:

  • "Triangle Auto-Completion" takes reference lines into account.
  • Pressing and holding the Ctrl key will deactivate the triangle auto-completion tool.
  • LPC uses "ring" instead of "rin" for ring primitives.

Fixed bug:
  • Sometimes "Triangle Auto-Completion" did not enable the mode selection box.

As always, I included a short readme.htm in the installation directory.

Cheers & Leg Godt

Nils

[LDPE] 1.8.80 Released (text editor calculations / better rounding / new grid / ARM)
Posted by: Nils Schmidt - 2024-06-22, 5:44 - Forum: Parts Author Tools - Replies (1)

Hey,

for linetypes 1-5, !LPE VERTEX, !LPE CSG, !LPE DISTANCE and !LPE PROTRACTOR you can now do math in the text editor:

Code:
2 24 0 0 0 1 2.25+1| 1

after hitting enter this will become

2 24 0 0 0 1 3.25| 1

| is the cursor position

a complex example:

2 24 0 0 0 1 abs((2+cos(PI)-10)/4.0)| 1

results in

2 24 0 0 0 1 2.25| 1

| is the cursor position

The math also works with floating point number input fields.
I improved the rounding a little bit and added a new 3D grid (Ctrl+Shift+G).

As always, you can download LDPE from this page:

http://nilsschmidt1337.github.io/ldparteditor/

Changelog:

(6 new features and 1 bug fix)

With this release you will be able to...
  • ...do simple math in the text editor (e.g. (-3+5)*2 and hit enter).
  • ...do simple math in floating point number input fields.
  • ...benefit from auto-rounding for the results of scripted expressions (e.g. 1.99999998 becomes 2).
  • ...benefit from better rounding in general (e.g. for PathTruder results).
  • ...try a new 3D grid (Ctrl+Shift+G).
  • ...try LDPartEditor on ARM Macs.

The following critical issue is fixed:

  1. Undoing at the end of the file led to wrong line number.

The program was tested intensively with "real world" files.
However, something can go wrong in about 140.000 lines of code.

Installation on Windows:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_win32_x64.zip
  2. Run LDPartEditor-1.8.80.msi
  3. Start LDPartEditor from the start menu
Installation on Linux:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_linux_x64.zip
  2. Install ldparteditor_1.8.80-1_amd64.deb
  3. Start LDPartEditor from the menu or via launcher
Installation on Mac OS X:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_mac_x64.zip
  2. Mount LDPartEditor-1.8.80.dmg
  3. Drag LDPartEditor.app to the Applications folder
  4. Copy ldparteditor.sh to your home folder
        4a. Open a Terminal.app and run ./ldparteditor.sh
        4b. Or open a Terminal.app and run /Applications/LDPartEditor.app/Contents/MacOS/LDPartEditor

I listen carefully to your requests and possible complaints. Please leave me a message, with your thoughts and wishes to further improve the software.

LDPE is a 3D CAD application: The overall system requirements are higher. While I recommend to use a powerful 64-bit multicore system, it could be possible, to run LDPE on older machines as well.

System Requirements:

Minimum System Requirements:
  • OpenGL 2.1 compatible Graphics Card
  • Operating System (64-bit): Windows [7 or newer], Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor e.g. Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon II (>2.0Ghz)
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Video-Memory: 1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 150 MB
Recommended Requirements:
  • Operating System (64bit): Windows 7,8,10,11, Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • OpenGL 3.3 compatible Graphics Card
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor with 4 cores (or more)
  • RAM: >4 GB
  • Video-Memory: >1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 500 MB
  • For a faster start, LDPartEditor and the LDraw™ library should be installed on an SSD.
