  Question on faces
Posted by: Nicola - 2012-11-22, 19:42 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (10)

Hi, i have a question: are faces considered double sided in parts that are not "BFC certified"?
For example i'm rendering part 6595 and it renders wrong, it's not certified as far as i can see.

  Orientation of flex parts
Posted by: Roland Melkert - 2012-11-20, 17:59 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (19)

Hi all, I'm making good progress implementing flexible parts in my LDCad

But now I'm wondering if I chose the right default orientation (namely positive z direction). I did notice most donor shapes (e.g. 166.dat) use y, but I felt that was 'weird' when I started out, but now I'm wondering if z is really all that great.

So my question to the part modeling experts is what are the considerations for choosing an (internal) base orientation for (flexible) parts.

Also what's a logical part center to use as a default (starting point, center of arc, etc) ?

Any thoughts / pointers would be appreciated.

  Lpub error: Mingwm10.dll not found
Posted by: Justin Major - 2012-11-20, 5:49 - Forum: LDraw File Processing and Conversion - Replies (3)

I just installed Lpub4, but when I try to open the program I get the following error:

This application has failed to start because Mingwm10.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

I tried to re-install the program but I keep getting the same error. Can anyone help me get this program working?

Thanks
Justin

  Lines not on edges
Posted by: Ignacio Fernandez Galvan - 2012-11-19, 19:15 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (8)

Is there some rule or recommendation against lines (type 2) not matching real edges of triangles or quads?

With this, I mean, for instance, lines that pass through some vertices, such as a line between (0,0,0) and (2,0,0), when the polygon's edges are (0,0,0)-(1,0,0) and (1,0,0)-(2,0,0). Or a set of lines that simply draw a figure inside a polygon.

Are these allowed or should I split the polygons or lines so that every line matches an actual polygon edge?

  Arm and hand assembly
Posted by: Ignacio Fernandez Galvan - 2012-11-18, 11:50 - Forum: Help - Replies (2)

Is this arm correctly assembled or are the parts incorrectly modelled? The hole in the arm would allow a deeper insertion of the hand, but the wrist is already touching the sleeve. And doesn't it look like there's too much wrist visible?

  LDraw All-In-One-Installer 2012-02 version 2 now available
Posted by: Willy Tschager - 2012-11-17, 17:58 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - Replies (5)

Version 2 of the LDraw All-In-One-Installer 2012-02, in short AIOI, has been released. It comes with:

* MPDCenter 2.0.0.5
* Fixed a bug which wouldn't install any tutorials is MLCad wasn't selected for install.

The AIOI supports Windows XP (Home and Pro), Windows Vista (all versions) and Windows 7 (all versions). On 64-Bit Operating Systems it will install in the "Program files (x86)" folder. The Installer will NOT run on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT Ver 4, 2000, or XP below SP2.

You can download the AIOI from:

Home > Help > Get Started > LDraw All-In-One-Installer

  WebGL renderer
Posted by: Nicola - 2012-11-16, 14:58 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (150)

Hello! I'm playing with LDraw a lot lately, and i decided to implement something to display models with WebGL.
Here's the experimental results and some more information:

http://www.lugato.net/ldraw/page.html
new url: http://www.lugato.net/brigl/index.html

I think a WebGL renderer would be great to show off models on the web. No plugin, no downloads, etc.
It's very crude but it already show some models

Ideas and feedbacks are welcome Smile

LSynth "Add Command ..." Selection Greyed Out
Posted by: rwjorgen - 2012-11-15, 17:12 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (3)

OK, I think I followed all the instructions for integrating LSynth with MLCAD; however, when I attempt to use the Extras -> LSynth -> Add Command ... menu item, the menu item is greyed out and will not let me select. So, I must have something wrong in my configuration settings.

I have the LSynth parts listed on the MLCAD part windows on the left panes. I followed all the instructions as written for integration and updating the MLCAD.ini file. (see attached)
