LDraw core met in LEGO headquarter/Billund
Posted by: Willy Tschager - 2019-05-27, 7:36 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - Replies (8)

Ten members of the LDraw core met at the LEGO headquarter in Billund from Wednesday 22.05. to Sunday 26.05.2019. This was the first time that people building together the LDraw Parts Library online – some for almost 20 years - met in real life.

Beside visiting the LEGO Idea House, the Kornmarken Factory and the new LEGO House opened in September 2017 they also had a meeting with people from the LDD team and other compartments of the company. A request for a dedicated information channel when it comes down to part numbers, meshes or colours was forwarded.

The attendees dedicated an entire day to discuss the future of LDraw, sort out some long outstanding issues such as missing colours, "What requires a HOLD vote on the Parts Tracker" or what is missing at the website. The outcome has or will be posted in the forums in the upcoming days.

The following members attended the visit (in alphabetical order):

Magnus Forsberg
Phillippe “Philo” Hurbain
Gerald Lasser
Steffen Lohse
Santeri Piippo
Orion Pobursky
Max Martin Richter
Nils Schmidt
Willy Tschager
Jaco van der Molen

Unfortunately the following members couldn’t attend:

Travis Cobbs
Chris Dee
Johann Eisner
Michael Heidemann
Roland Melkert
JC Tchang

On a personal note I’d like to add that I had much fun and one of the best days of my life :-)

  LGEO part lg_48933 in AIOI
Posted by: Leonardo Gonzalez - 2019-05-26, 23:01 - Forum: Rendering Techniques - Replies (2)

Hello there,

I've been lurking in the shadows for years, but decided to join in.

While rendering two of my models I found out that the part lg_48933 that comes with the AIOI looks like this:

After testing for a while, the solution turned out to be simple, the first instance of:

Code:
scale <-1, 1, 1>

Should read like this:
Code:
scale <1, -1, 1>

And the file now renders correctly, like this:

Here is the file itself.

Hope that helps. Admins please, redirect this post if necessary.

  SvgToDat
Posted by: Travis Cobbs - 2019-05-25, 5:53 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (3)

People occasionally ask about SvgToDat (which they sometimes call svg2dat), so I have finally gotten around to uploading its source code to GitHub (along with both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows builds). It can be found here:

https://github.com/tcobbs/SvgToDat

If anyone wants to take over this project, feel free. It is MIT licensed. I wrote this code many years ago (no later than 2011), and haven't really touched it since (other than getting it to compile in Visual Studio 2015). I created a GitHub release that contains two executable zips: one for 32-bit Windows, and the other for 64-bit Windows. It can be found here:

https://github.com/tcobbs/SvgToDat/releases/tag/v0.1

To use the program, simply run SvgToDat <filename.svg>. It will create a file named filename.ldr alongside the SVG file.

  LDCad scripting and macros
Posted by: Roland Melkert - 2019-05-18, 20:18 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (16)

Hello all,

I'm working on some new scripts for the upcoming LDCad 1.6c release.

Just some stuff I think could be useful or people asked about through emails.

To get some of them working I also expanded the api with minor new functions etc.

Anyhow just wanted to give everyone the opportunity to request additional scripts/macros/api extensions.

Things I'm working on:

- "MLCad hide" meta toggle on the selection.
- Select all "MLCad hide" content in current (non nested) model.
- Move the current building step's content down/up.

Any additional suggestions are welcome.

  Pattern Projection on a surface
Posted by: Vincent Messenet - 2019-05-15, 10:03 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (2)

I try to project a pattern on a surface using SlicerPro within LD Part Editor but I can't figure out how it works while it seems to me I follow the instructions.

In attachment to this thread you will find my file and I try to project the plan pattern on the red squares. So I select the whole pattern in a view, then I control click on a view set on Top, I open the tool SlicerPro and click on OK then a progress bar appear which goes quickly and nothing appear.

Could you please let me know what I am doing wrong?

Thanks!

  Catamaran Hulls
Posted by: Steve Chisnall - 2019-05-12, 0:33 - Forum: Part Requests - Replies (3)

50820 & 50821
I am trying to design a floatplane that would use these hulls as its pontoons, and would be most grateful to have these parts available in LDraw.

  Recomendation about amount of triangles.
Posted by: Victor Di Rienzo - 2019-05-11, 13:54 - Forum: Parts Tracker Discussion - Replies (2)

Guys yesterday i spent hours making the following pattern.

btw i have spent tons of hours to make this pattern. and i have just realize that it was already available on part tracker.

i was looking something new to upload, and check on rebricable, this brick did not had any ldraw part assigned and i did not check on

http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptpatterns.cgi?p=3039

grrrrrrrrr.......

regarding this issue for future designs. the idea its to make the patterns with the less ammount of triangles as possible ?

any recommendation to add? in the LQ version of the pattern you can see some vertex have TONS of triangles that are attached to them. its this ok? or its not recommended to have many triangles attached to a vertex?

note: yellow lines should be color 16. i know now.
