  Overhang on turns for monorail
Posted by: Ben Supnik - 2016-04-11, 2:51 - Forum: Parts Authoring - No Replies

Hi Y'all,

I built a design that uses the old 4-wide monorail, e.g. this:

(picture of monorail)

From the picture, you can see that as the train goes around a turn, the front of the train extends outside the track.  Once the train straightens, the train fits within the 4-wide track's "airspace".

Does anyone know how far into a straight-away the train has to advance to no longer overhang the outside of the track?  Does the motor have to reach a straight segment to fully 'straighten' the nose?

(I fear that by building adjacent station platforms outside the loop just after a turn, I have built an "impossible" MOC...)

Thanks!
Ben

  ldglite 1.3.1
Posted by: Don Heyse - 2016-04-10, 0:45 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - No Replies

So, after 12 years of dithering, I've finally incorporated the ldrawini sourceforge code into ldglite so it can use a part search strategy compatible with ldview and l3p.  The new code is in the ldglite CVS and github repositories.  And for now, I've built a pair of new Windows executables.  One is a regular ldglite release, and the other is a special build that automatically uses the new -2g,2x command line setting for any offscreen rendering.  The new setting renders a cleaner antialiased image.  That might be useful as a drop in replacement for ldglite in lpub4 or LPub3D.

You can find it at the same old ldglite.sourceforge.net location.  If I can convince myself that some version of lpub works on Macs, then I'll also try to crank out a new OSX build.

LPub3D How to Add Rotation Step
Posted by: Sean - 2016-04-08, 17:02 - Forum: LDraw File Processing and Conversion - Replies (11)

Hello,

The feature list for LPub3D mentions being able to add a rotation step with the 3D viewer.  I can get it to add a ROTSTEP tag to the code, but I can't get it to insert any rotation information.  Does it not do that, or am I missing something?  I can't seem to find any mention of this feature outside of that one list.

Thanks!

  LDCad: rubber band in 3D
Posted by: Milan Vančura - 2016-04-08, 4:31 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (3)

I tried to put the rubber band on a construction which is not flat. Something like
    .

The default what LDCad does is
    .
There are two problems: the green and red ball rods do not point to the previous and next circle correctly and rubber band is twisted between the top left an top circle. Is there a way how I can fix it manually? I did not find any way to change rods directions (only their length). And any change of their "roll" did not help with the twisted band problem.

Or should I use "bezier" instead of circles? Thanks.

Apply pattern to part using LD Pattern Creator
Posted by: Reuben Pearse - 2016-04-07, 20:32 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (3)

Hi there,

I've created a sticker part using LD Pattern Creator (it's the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo for the Quinjet) - see attached file sticker_v8.dat

However I've now realised that I need to add/apply the pattern to an existing part - 6881b.dat.

Do I need to create a new projection template for this brick?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Reuben

Hi all I wrote a very quick and dirty sticker generator

Might be useful to get simple sticker parts going.

Feel free to comment / use it in any way.

  Access key for "Preview Post"
Posted by: Milan Vančura - 2016-04-05, 10:09 - Forum: Website Suggestions/Requests/Discussion - Replies (4)

Hi.

I've found there is already an access key for posting the comment ("s"), that's great. Could you add the access key "p" for preview, please?

It's handy to just press shift-alt-s to send the message instead of scrolling the page and looking for the button with mouse. But Preview button does not have the access key assigned.
