  Operating on multiple parts
Posted by: Michael Horvath - 2017-12-27, 2:38 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (5)

Is it possible to apply the same rotations on more than one part at the same time? E.g. rotate each part around the y axis by 90 degrees for instance, but not around a common center but around each part locally. Can this be done in MLCAD?

I've finally decided to tackle this bad boy for real. I'm posting this thread in part to post progress on the part and in part to ask for numbers. I generally get the numbers provided on a silver platter, but this is not the case.

So far, the housing is coming up and the trigger has been modeled.

The part is an assembly of 5 parts:

  • the black housing, this has the number 60932 imprinted
  • the silver magazine, this has the number 60931 imprinted
  • the silver trigger, number unknown, model 100% complete
  • the spring, number unknown
  • the red circular gizmo that supports the balls against the spring, number unknown
According to Brickset, the design ID of the assembly is 62233. Can someone try to find out what the rest of the numbers are, please?

I was thinking of providing the following shortcuts:
  • 62233-f1.dat, with the spring relaxed
  • 62233-f2.dat, with the spring contracted
  • 62233c01.dat, shortcut with 62233-f2.dat with 4 balls.

I also found out that just a ruler doesn't cut it anymore, so I finally got myself a caliper...

  Merry Christmas

After a crazy end of 2016 and the rest of 2017 I have a lot to be thankful for. Bear with me, my free time is starting to increase and I have many plans in store for the website. Thank you for bringing positivity every day and making my job easy. Here’s wishing everyone in the LDraw community a Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah and a very Happy New Year.

  Using LDCad
Posted by: Michael Horvath - 2017-12-24, 8:14 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (53)

Couple of questions about LDCad.

* How do I add a part or submodel that is located in the same directory (or some arbitrary directory) as the model I am working on? I can't figure out which menu option does this. Thanks.
* How do I bandbox select multiple parts in a model using the mouse?
* How do I select a part using the mouse if the part has no triangles or quads, and only edge lines?

  Compressing complete.zip with 7-zip?
Posted by: Santeri Piippo - 2017-12-23, 20:50 - Forum: Parts Tracker Discussion - Replies (3)

I just found that the LDraw library on my laptop was outdated and downloaded complete.zip to install a new one. Considering that it's a zip and how LDraw files are all textual I wondered how well 7-zip would recompress it, and pretty well it did: the 36MB complete.zip reduced to a 22MB complete.7z (with -mx=9, i.e. max compression).

Maybe we could compress the complete library archive with 7zip and save bandwidth?

  Moving subfiles to primitives
Posted by: Willy Tschager - 2017-12-21, 9:37 - Forum: Parts Authoring - No Replies

Since we talked about tribal knowledge: I wasn't aware of s\3626bs05.dat - Minifig Head - Half Front Face Optional Lines and it would have helped enormously when working on the western heads. The same goes for the torso subparts.

But there is more: s\45407s01.dat - Wedge  4 x  4 with  1 x  4 Side Plates - Peghole Tube Elbow is used in more than 45407.

I think the main problem is that we do not have a chart for these parts as we have for the http://www.ldraw.org/library/primref/

I propose to convert these useful subparts to primitives.

  LeoCAD custom part locations?
Posted by: Michael Horvath - 2017-12-20, 21:54 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (2)

I am reading this page:

http://www.leocad.org/docs/library.html

I am trying to use a few unofficial parts I created alongside the default library. Is it sufficient to just insert the custom parts into "ldrawunf.zip"?

Or is it necessary to do this:

Quote:If you are using your own custom library with loose files then all you need to do is make sure you update or delete parts.lst and the parts should be visible next time you start LeoCAD.

If so, which "parts.lst" file is it talking about? I see no such file in "C:\Program Files (x86)\LeoCAD" or inside "ldrawunf.zip". Thanks.

[edit]

How do I get in touch with the program's author?

Building on top of an image
Posted by: Michael Horvath - 2017-12-19, 6:56 - Forum: MOCs (My Own Creations) - Replies (6)

I have images such as the attached ones. What is the best way to under/overlay the images in an ldraw editor so that I can build to match them? Does some software support this? I *may* possibly be able to export them as SVG or PostScript. Thanks.
