I'm working to create a documentation sub section of the main site. I don't remember who did the one you see at the top of all of our pages. If the original author or someone else wants to create new colors for us that would be great:
Currently we have:
Red: Centralised LDraw Resources
Blue: LDraw Discussion Forum
Green: LDraw Parts Tracker
Yellow: LDraw Parts Requestor (Not in use)

I'd like three new ones:
LDraw Wiki
LDraw Documentation
LDraw Official Model Repository

Note the "tm" in the upper right corner. That is required. Colors are up for discussion. I'd like the final product to be as close to the original as possible. Any substantial redesigns will be entertained but they will also need to be discussed by the community at large. The final product needs to be fairly high resolution as I'm looking to do printed material (like new LUG banners) as well

Will also need new favicons and just the fade-in brick in the new colors.

  Backend updates

I've been doing a lot of tinkering with the main site templates recently. Mostly to streamline the HTML and sync the templates between the Main site and Parts Tracker better (Right now if I want to make a change across the PT and Main site I have to edit like 4 or 5 different files, I'd like to to be one or maybe two).

If something looks broken, it probably is. Check again a little bit later and if it's still not fixed, post here to let me know.

  Part 4210 (hose reel)
Posted by: N. W. Perry - 2020-07-29, 16:31 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (17)

Part 4210 (ex-4208) says it needs teeth. It also needs the holes through the drum spindle.

If anyone has the real part handy:

  • How many teeth should it have? I think 40, but it's hard to tell from photos alone. (The similar part 2585 has 32.)
  • What's the diameter and position of the hole? (In 2585 it's 6 LDU diameter and centered 5.5 from the inner flange.)

  Twisted string template?
Posted by: N. W. Perry - 2020-07-28, 19:16 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (2)

I was trying to make an LDCad template for a braided string/rope, using LSynth donors like x77a and x77b. But it's required to roll the donor part progressively at some angle, I think 30° (but not certain), and as far as I can see there's no option to do that.

Best I could come up with was to have successive instances of the donor in a group, with the rotation manually set, but the results were not good. (The donors don't align well or blend together.) Is there a way to do it?

If not, I can get a pretty good-looking result with the LS60 donor (but a custom all-black version for rendering). I'm mainly interested in getting something with a little more texture, like the rough fibers of a string.

Photo TRAIN STICKERS / Printed Pieces - Thread for Picking Stickersheets for TLG Train Sets
Posted by: Gerald Lasser - 2020-07-28, 15:25 - Forum: Part Requests - Replies (6)

Ulrich and me had a small exchange concerning the Sticker Sheets for the train sets as he saw that I uploaded a few ones again and he was also active in the past on those. To avoid double work, I would like to start this thread here to keep somehow track of what is in the works and what needs attention. I hope it is fine here in the Request section.

I focussed in the past only on stickers that appear on the rolling stock, but feel free to add also the stickers that adorn the surroundings...

A few requests:

  • One Set per post
To avoid clutter, each post below this one shall only concern one set.
If a set has more than one sheet, please post them all into the same.
  • Add a link from the Table of Content to the correct post
To make the search easier, if you start a new post, create a link from the ToC this  this very post. If you do not have privileges to do so, drop me a PM.
  • Post also the stickers arranged as they are on the sticker-sheet

  MLCad.ini 2020-01 update now available
Posted by: Willy Tschager - 2020-07-27, 8:44 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - Replies (7)

Hi folks,

I just updated the MLCad.ini file accordingly to the latest LDraw.org parts update 2020-01. The .ini file defines (among other things) the parts available in MLCad's, LEOCad's and Bricksmith's minifigure generator.

Download the file from my website: http://www.holly-wood.it/mlcad/mlcad_ini-en.html

Using 48\x-yTANG Primitives > Monorail Switch Points
Posted by: Gerald Lasser - 2020-07-26, 20:31 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (11)

Due to my comment reviewing part s/2880s09.dat on using a "48\1-8tang" primitive to smoothen the part when doing primitive substitution.

First of all why: Here's how the part looks when the Prim-Subst (PS) is turned on:

The top and bottom surfaces reach over the refined cyli/edges

To overcome this issue the 48\1-8tang could be used.

Now here's the issue, when using PS, LDView increases the number of sections in a circle from either 16 or 48 to 96, this works also with the tanges primitives. I have created already the 48\1-16tang and to make use of the PS in the 49949 part.

I noticed that LDView will smoothen the inner-segment, but keeps the outer one always at 16 division, even if the 48\tang primitive has the outer segment done with 48 divisions as well, so that is what we will get without PS (left) and with PS (right)

As this ends up now with a pretty wide segment, it cannot be used at the bottom of the part.
For the top part it is working, see this code: (becuase of the overlap, when PS is ON, you can see that it will fit nicely)

Code:

48\1-8tang looks like this:

Now the question is if the outer segment could stay at 48 segments as well, would that be feasible.
Where is the prim-substitution defined?

  Clipper Sails
Posted by: Martin - 2020-07-26, 15:24 - Forum: Part Requests - Replies (1)

Hi

I want to make a modified Caribbean Clipper but I cannot find the sails Huh
It should be those 3 sails:
Cloth Sail 27 x 17 Top with Blue Thick Stripes Pattern, Cloth Sail 30 x 15 Bottom with Blue Thick Stripes Pattern  and Cloth Sail Triangular 15 x 22 with Blue Thick Stripes Pattern

images are here:
http://peeron.com/inv/parts/x420px2
http://peeron.com/inv/parts/x419px2
http://peeron.com/inv/parts/x421px2

or here:

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv...ailbb72c01

The same sails are also used for the Barracuda.

It would be great if someone can create them (maybe like the other sails that are looking like the wind is blowing them) as blank white sails, where I can change the colour of the stripes
