Information Part request: 2648c01 Crane Grab - Complete Assembly (parts 2648 & 2649)
Posted by: Jonas Hall - 2020-04-26, 15:49 - Forum: Part Requests - Replies (13)

Hello,

I have a parts request for this part, as I cannot seem to find it at all in the Ldraw library.

[Image: lego-red-container-crane-grabber-assembly-25.jpg]

The complete assembly consists of these two parts:
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/cat...ane%5D#T=C
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/cat...ane%5D#T=C

It is used in just a few sets, for example 4555 Cargo Station (1995).

Information Part 70962 Technic Bumper 2 x 5 Rubber Bent, Angled - 2 x 2
Posted by: Jonas Hall - 2020-04-26, 15:27 - Forum: Part Requests - Replies (2)

Hello,

Is there any plans on finishing this part?
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn....70962&in=S

I see there's a couple parts and subparts in the unofficial parts tracker that mentions 70962. The last comment from Dec -19 in this entry https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.c...s/u656.dat notes that 70961 exists but 70962 is missing.

Does anybody know if 70962 will be created?

  Virtual Reality LDraw Building System
Posted by: K Johnson - 2020-04-25, 3:04 - Forum: Help - Replies (6)

Hello All,

I am planning on using the LDraw parts for a virtual reality building system, but I am unsure if this is a good idea because of the potential copywrite infringement on the LEGO Group.

I want to decide early in the development process if I should use LDraw or model my own knockoff parts and possibly use the same part names for instruction manual/LDraw .ldr file export purposes.

The library wouldn't be all-encompassing in either case, and I would make sure not to use any trademark material, but as far as I am aware the LEGO Group has failed in multiple lawsuits to secure intellectual ownership of most of their part designs (excluding some parts such as minifigs, Bionicle, etc.) after their patents expired.

I know that LDraw is available for commercial use, but am I looking at a lawsuit if I use the parts in this way?

I have already developed a prototype if anyone is interested, currently developing for the Oculus Quest VR Headset using the Unity Engine.

  Rebrickable LDCad PBG export
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2020-04-24, 14:56 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (42)

I love Rebrickable's PBG export. However, it has the drawback that minifig torsos and legs are listed as assemblies so unless they're generic enough to use the appropriate shortcut they'll always appear as unfound parts in the parts bin. I recently had a forum thread with the dev team about this and was basically told that this will never change since it's too much for them to track arms, hands, torsos, hips, and legs separately. I don't disagree with this decision from their point of view.

I proposed the following solution:
Associate the LDraw part number for the appropriate torso with the assembly. Add in the arms in the same color as the torso and the hands in yellow. This will at least get the correct torso pattern to show up in the parts bin and the if the arm or hand color is different, that's easily changeable by the user. They have yet to get back to me on this suggestion.

Then I got to thinking, we could use the Rebrickable API to provide our own PBG export. Either roll our own cross reference database or, since Bricklink does catalog the torsos, arms, and hands separately and Rebrickable provides the Bricklink number, pull this data from Bricklink via their API. We could also have an option to include the unpatterned version of a part if the patterned version doesn't exist and reference the appropriate flex part template for flexible parts.

Thoughts?

  11055 Flag 2 x 2 Square [Thick Clips]

For reference:

Is this a variation we care about or should I tell Rebrickable to use 2335?

Note: Bricklink doesn't differentiate.

I seem to recall a tutorial that was written (by Philo?) on how to process the LDD mesh data into a part for the PT. My Google fu has failed me in finding it. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Bricklink thinks these are 2 different patterns. I'm leaning that way but I'm not entirely convinced that the differences are meaningful. Thoughts?
