Weekly new parts and the "Oldtimers" - Willy Tschager - 2021-05-12 Guys, as you might have noticed a new script has been added to the PT links a while ago, listing the "Weekly New Parts": Beside the new parts it gives you a good overview of the "Oldtimers", parts that are in review hell for ages because of some issues - mostly abandoned by their authors. I started reviewing and fixing some of them a long time ago and would appreciate if you could have a look and get them into an update: https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/89918.dat https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/43936.dat https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/43750.dat https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/6088.dat https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/48492.dat https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/11467.dat https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/3443ac01.dat https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/30361dps6.dat https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/30361dps7.dat https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/30361dps8.dat Thanks, w. RE: Weekly new parts and the "Oldtimers" - Bertrand Lequy - 2021-05-13 I noticed this new feature and I like it already. Is your message a go for actual part authors to clean up old abandoned files ? It is both a good opportunity to study someone else's work and learn, but also an opportunity to step on someone else's toes. Tread gently. The rule is that a uncorrected Hold-voted file is free to correct after 3 month. If there's a review/comment under a Novote you should be more careful. The author might be busy with other things, like life itself. I prefer to use the Hold-vote when I'm reviewing, to avoid files ending up in an abandoned state. Tread gently. No problem Magnus, I was aware of the "do not step on someone else toe" I was just asking, for myself, and other part author that could be interrested in this. If I decided to do something it would be with old part, not part from this month ( like the hold you gave me and that I don't solve for now) RE: Weekly new parts and the "Oldtimers" - Magnus Forsberg - 2021-05-13 I find uploading a file, and then not acting on a review, regardless of Novote or Hold, is disrespectful of the reviewer. I'm thinking: - "Why should I review your file if you ignore my review?" If I upload a file, I want someone to review it. And then I'm expected to react. But, some might need more time than others, and I have to accept and respect that. Edit, Just to be clear, I'm not talking about you and your files Bertrand, I'm talking in general terms. That's a yes. We get rid off files stuck in review hell and as a side effect you'll learn a lot about part authoring diving deep into others work. It can however be overwelming at first sight, when you have to scroll a long list of reviews just to figure out what's really wrong with that part. w. RE: Weekly new parts and the "Oldtimers" - N. W. For my part, of course disrespect is never the intent—but if I don't immediately revise a part after a review (particularly a novote), it's usually just pending the input of more reviewers, so that all issues can be fixed at once instead of making multiple revisions. (I'll often leave a comment though, just to say that the review is noted and will be incorporated in the next version, whenever one is required.) But, in any case I was inspired by this thread to finish out my one outstanding hold-voted file. And I have a few others that have stalled, but those are waiting on input from other reviewers as far as I can tell. Be asured that a part on HOLD won't get any input from other reviewers. There are so many parts with no votes on the PT that noone will waste time an a part with flaws. w. (I remember there being a big long list with guidance on when to hold and when to merely suggest.) In fact, many novotes are just comments with no specified action to be taken.
