  1:87 model vehicles?
Posted by: N. W. Perry - 2021-01-12, 0:59 - Forum: Parts Authoring - No Replies

This is mainly idle curiosity, since I think I can guess at the answer and the reasons behind it, but…

…has any serious thought ever been given to authoring the 1:87 model vehicles that were integral to the Town Plan system in the 50s and 60s? Or alternatively, was a conscious decision made not to do so?

Obviously these would be tricky since many of us probably don't have real-world examples on hand to work from, and they'd all be highly customized parts, not well represented by existing primitives. Also, as with many early parts, it's hard to pin down one "authentic" version of each of these, since color combinations and other details tended to vary considerably. Finally, with no connection points, they don't really function as system parts, and have no real utility within a model other than for their own sake.

On the other hand, in their day they were considered very much "in-system", as the scale of the whole Town Plan/System i leg era was built around them. And if there were ever a goal of having accurate LDraw representations of all official sets, these would be necessary to have for a fair number of those models.

Anyway, it's certainly not something I'm proposing to tackle or anything—just wondering aloud, as I say. :-)

Signpost cantilever (Classic town and Legoland)
Posted by: Takeshi Takahashi - 2021-01-10, 13:18 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (1)

I've submitted the missing part (Signpost cantilever with Shell pattern) in set 601 as u454p01.
https://forums.ldraw.org/thread-22660-po...l#pid39984
https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.c...454p01.dat

I have some questions about this part and would like the community members' opinions.
1) This part is listed as x454pb01 in Bricklink and upn0252pr0001 in Rebrickable.
On the other hand, there are two parts with different parent part number (bb0107 in Bricklink and 107 in Rebrickable) while they appear to be the same brick shape with this part.
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/cat...5D#T=C&C=1
https://rebrickable.com/parts/107/road-s...ved-plain/

https://rebrickable.com/parts/107pr0001/...ell-print/
https://rebrickable.com/parts/107pr0002/...ice-print/

Should we unify the parent part number for these three as "107"?

2) I've used part 764 as the substitute of this part u454pb01,
but I couldn't find any real part of 764 in external databases (Bricklink, Rebrickable and Peeron).
There are two possibilities: "I've overlooked the existence of 764" or "The part 764 is only a ghost".

invalid character 'O' during part review
Posted by: Steffen - 2021-01-09, 22:23 - Forum: Website Suggestions/Requests/Discussion - Replies (2)

Hi, I just ran into a funny PT error:

I did a part review and received the crazy error message: "The letter 'O' is not allowed in part reviews!"

It took me some time to find out that I accidently had used an accent key on my keyboard and that my review
contained the letter Í (or Ì, I forgot) somewhere else. So the "O" was not the problem, but the accented "I".
Something is wrong with the error message display Smile Smile Smile

Recommended Digital Calipers for measuring parts (+ rare Clutch Test Implements.)
Posted by: tom alphin - 2021-01-09, 7:01 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (5)

I recently got my hands on some rare parts which are used to test LEGO parts.  They are described in the middle of an article on New Elementary as "Clutch Test Implements".  In my case, I have four of these parts in my hands:

  • Stud testing part
  • Small Towball testing part
  • Large towball testing part
  • Bar/clip testing part.

The first three have 5-digit part ID's, and the fourth one does not.  They are in a mix of uncolored ABS, Green/Dark Green ABS, and Trans-clear.  Since they have Part ID's, I was willing to make the required measurements to allow them to be added to LDraw Parts Library.

A few questions:
1) Can someone recommend a modest-priced pair of digital calipers that work well in measuring LEGO parts?  (ex: Are the Harbor Freight ones good enough?)
2) Are unreleased parts allowed in the LDraw Parts Library?
3) Are there tips to take the best and mot accurate measurements?

Thanks,
---tom

Question Highlight current step issue
Posted by: mihao - 2021-01-07, 19:26 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (1)

I am using LPub3D to generate some instructions. Sometimes, the "highlight current step" function highlights more than it should highlight, like below. Anyone has an idea how to solve it? Thanks!

couldn't find a part in LDCad library
Posted by: zeki - 2021-01-06, 20:31 - Forum: Help - Replies (1)

Hi everyone. I'm new at LDCad. I couldn't find the piece that numbered as 39367 ( SPIKE Prime Core Set azure/black wheel ) in the part library. I add unofficial part library to Ldcad. I started to see some new parts in the library labeled as "unOff" after this. But still couldn't find 39367.  I finished all model except this part. Is there any way to add this part to LDcad? Thank you so much.

Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2021-01-06, 15:17 - Forum: Part Requests - Replies (5)

Anyone want to take a crack at this:
98088pat0005 Animal Body Part, Dinosaur, Pteranodon Wing, Left with Marbled Sand Green Edge Pattern

It is available (along with the Right side part 98089) in digitalbricks.de:
http://www.digital-bricks.de/en/index.ph...ddp&mg=259

I, unfortunately can't provide photos since the set that I wanted that contains this part was sold out before I went to the LEGO store in the 1st.

Hello.
This is my first *.mpd file.
I tried to follow the OMR specifications, but probably there are a lot of problems.
What do you think?
P.S.: I don't know how to post thumbnails.
