  Weekly new parts
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2022-01-22, 5:12 - Forum: Parts Tracker Discussion - Replies (6)

FYI I added 2 convenience features to Weekly New Part:
- Week by week anchors. Link to a specific week by adding "#YYYY-MM-DD" to the URL
- Include all parts (i.e. fixes too) by adding "?fixes=y" to the URL (I guess this make the page Parts by Week now but I'm not going to dynamically change the title).

  Technic vs. Constraction
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2022-01-21, 22:43 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (4)

I'd like to know the dividing line between Technic and Constraction. My general understanding is Bionicle, Hero Factory, etc. specific parts are Constraction and Technic otherwise. I realize that there will prolly be overlap so I think we should default to Technic.

I apologize if this has already been hashed out but I might have missed the conversation. Just point me to the relevant forum thread. Other

We need to address Steffen's question in order to release this group of parts.

  "h" Baseplates

Example (Look at https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptweekly.cgi#2010-04-05 for more)

Should these parts exist? I say no but would like to have a discussion before I delete.

In regards to arezey's comment, should we rename these parts to "Constraction Shield ..." or stick with "Technic Shield ..."?

  Parts 32561c01.dat and 32561c02.dat
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2022-01-20, 4:42 - Forum: Parts Tracker Discussion - Replies (8)

These are now the oldest uncertified parts on the PT. In fact, my first part was released in update 2002-03 so it probably even predates my foray parts authoring (the first post of which is here on 14 Mar 2002). I'd like them either rebuilt or William Wood found and affirmed the CA.

  PT Header Editing
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2022-01-19, 14:20 - Forum: Parts Tracker Discussion - Replies (7)

Now that more people than myself have the ability to edit headers on the PT (Willy, Philo, Magnus, Gerald, Max, and Steffen to start) I'd like to lay down some basic ground rules:

A header may only be edited if:
- To fix an error
- To add a required !CATEGORY or !KEYWORDS entry
- As specifically requested in the comments or here on the forum provided there are no objections

When in doubt, do not edit and ask. If there is a dispute, I will make the final decision.

  More about ribbed hoses
Posted by: N. W. Perry - 2022-01-18, 17:58 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (6)

(Prior discussions here and here.)

1. I believe part 72706 should have 10 ribs rather than 9, as every photo I can find of the real part does.

2. Dimensions: I took some screen measurements from photos like this one, which support a rib-to-rib pitch of 2.5mm or 6.25 LDU, matching current practice. That also supports an overall length of 25mm, which is closer to the nominal 3L size of the part (especially with the natural squishiness of a real hose). It also also supports the 2L/6-rib hose being less than 16mm, as discussed in the second thread above.

3. I think the rib subpart should be a little fatter and rounder. In particular, the width of the rib should be greater than that of the gap; my measurements give an approximate ratio of 7:3. I plan to re-work this subpart for my own use; is it worth doing so officially? This would also affect the flexible segments k01 and k02.

  Tildes in Primitives
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2022-01-18, 5:15 - Forum: Parts Tracker Discussion - Replies (14)

For reference:
https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.c.../clh6c.dat

I'm not certain that tildes are right for use in primitive descriptions. Lots of primitives are built from other primitives. None of them have tildes.

Thoughts?
