  Collada export with wrong axes
Posted by: N. W. Perry - 2023-02-01, 4:33 - Forum: LDraw File Processing and Conversion - Replies (1)

I was trying to create a custom sloped brick in Studio, and I wanted to get a Collada mesh so I could render it properly with the bumpy slope texture. I used Studio's own Collada exporter, but as you can see I got some wrong results.

On the left is a normal slope brick; on the right is my custom subpart. You can see that it's Z-up rather than Y-up, so I guess the export is set for Blender, and it may also be inside-out. The sloped surface itself is oriented correctly because it's the same one Studio uses; only the subpart is different.

There are export settings for both winding and handedness that I could mess with, but I wonder if there's a quick way to just swap the axes? Or a better way to get the Collada mesh of an LDraw part than going through Studio?

Thumbs Up Part request: Spacebaby
Posted by: Josh Williams - 2023-02-01, 3:24 - Forum: Part Requests - Replies (11)

Hi,

I'm looking for some help with the Spacebaby from series 24. It looks like neither of the parts (head: 100662pb01, body: 25128pb010) exist yet. I'm working on a project centered on the Spacebaby concept, and I'd like to be able to include them in my renders.

Thank you in advance to anyone who's able to tackle this. You are amazing. I should have registered here years ago to thank you all for the amazing work you've done.

  PT lock for server maintenance
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2023-01-31, 14:46 - Forum: Parts Tracker Discussion - Replies (4)

Our we host will be updating our server OS. Last time this happened some PT processes were broken and had to be updated. As a precaution the PT has been locked until I'm informed the upgrade is complete and I can test the impact.

If this stretches past tomorrow, the planned PT update will still happen as scheduled as the new software resides on a separate server.

Hey again, I forgot to request this part until now. It’s Princess Morbucks’ headpiece from The Powerpuff Girls. I’d like to see this piece added. Thanks!

  Updating the 2x2 round family?
Posted by: N. W. Perry - 2023-01-27, 16:54 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (7)

Right now this is just a question, before I propose to actually do anything…but have we ever considered improving the geometry of the 2x2 round family of parts?

  • Brick 3941
  • Plate 4032
  • Tile 4150
  • etc.…

Specifically, the area around the stud notches tends to be 16-sided, non-primitive geometry, which matches well with the 16-sided curved prims that make up the bulk of the parts. But when rendered with prim sub, there is a noticeable flattening and/or seams around the stud notches.

I assume the easiest approach would be to upgrade the curved prims to hi-res versions, and to increase the number of facets in the non-prim geometry around the stud notches to match. But I wondered if this has ever been proposed before, and whether any consensus was reached on whether or how to go about it?

  Spiked Tall Top Hair (24787)
Posted by: Reece QK - 2023-01-27, 5:13 - Forum: Part Requests - No Replies

Hey Again!
Looking for part 24787 Spiked Tall Top Hairpiece aka Syndrome's Hair from the Disney CMF.
Hoping to use it for the Bride of Frankenstein if colored dark brown and had a little printing. Would love to render this minifig in 3D with hair if I can find the file!

I think the Syndrome hair would look surprisingly good (I've tested it in photoshop) - although a specific "Bride" hairpiece would be ideal if my Ideas set were to be created. Thank you for your help so far!
