Allotment 3D - my game with ldraw files
Posted by: Lenny - 2023-01-11, 21:06 - Forum: All Other Programs. - Replies (1)

Hello!

I would like to thank all of them, who helped me during creating this simple game (few months ago I registered here to get some hints with using LDCad and ldraw files in order to create game).

There was no spectacular success, but my nephews had a little fun playing this game Smile

Game is available online:
https://pdzoc.github.io/Allotment3D

Additional info in readme file: https://github.com/Pdzoc/Allotment3D
If you have GH account I will be very pleased when you give a star to the repo. Fell free to make an issue if you want criticize this project Wink I know it's veery simple - I'm not a proffesional dev.

Thank you, folks!

  Beta Parts Tracker feedback
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2023-01-11, 3:51 - Forum: Parts Tracker Discussion - Replies (8)

This thread is for questions regarding the Beta PT
Please report bugs to Github unless they are minor in nature.

Link for those who missed the announcement in the year in review post:

GitHub:
https://github.com/ldraw-org/ldraworg-library

First question:
On the part submit page: are the radio buttons to select the folder preferred or would a select/dropdown be better?

I need large images in the style of the LDraw.org main site from page for the Parts Tracker, OMR, and Documentation for use at the library site.

  Cannot open include file lg_defs.inc
Posted by: Franklin W. Cain - 2023-01-10, 21:28 - Forum: LDraw File Processing and Conversion - Replies (9)

It's been a very long time since I last tried to use POVRAY. I just now exported a model from LDView into POVRAY, but when I try to render this model in POVRAY, I get the error message "Parse Error: Cannot open include file lg_defs.inc".

I've tried searching tis site (not just the Forums), and I've searched Google as well, but I cannot find anything that actually helps me fix this error.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Franklin

  The LDraw that never was…
Posted by: N. W. Perry - 2023-01-09, 17:00 - Forum: General LDraw.org Discussion - Replies (3)

Following up on some nostalgia from here, I thought it would be interesting to look at what was probably the earliest coordinated project to develop a Lego CAD system—what should have turned into LDraw, but for some reason, didn't:
https://groups.google.com/g/alt.toys.leg...fZp59Cv88J

It's not the very earliest post on the topic, but it does go into remarkable details about how the program would work, how it would be developed and by whom. This project was spearheaded by Alex Devries (who credits Hayes Harper for the original idea).

Like I said, this appears to be the beginnings of what would become the LDraw project…but it isn't. So I'm wondering about a few things:

  • What ever came of this project? Did any code ever get written, in any meaningful amount?
  • Was the mailing list set up for this project the precursor to the LCAD list that gave rise to this forum, or was it always totally separate?
  • How similar is this proposal to what James ultimately put into LDraw/LEdit, and how is it substantially different?
  • Are there capabilities proposed in this system that never quite made into the LDraw format? (For example, it seems that interactivity was conceived as part of the language, so that the motion and speed of a part in a model would be recorded in the model's source code.)

Anyway, a fascinating piece of LDraw (pre-)history, regardless!

LDraw Library Year in Review - 2022

July:

September:
  - Update 2022-05 released with 393 new parts.
December:
  - Update 2022-06 released with 333 new parts.

Stats:
Total Files: 4332
New Files: 3374
New Parts: 2209
New Primitives (all types): 191
New texmap images: 66

Thoughts:
This was a banner year for LDraw! We released a record number of new parts this beating our previous record by almost 500 parts. This is all due to the continued efforts of our parts authors and reviewers. Without them, the library simply wouldn't exist. I was unsure of myself when I volunteered to fill the Admin spot as Chris's legacy loomed large. Now that I've done the job for a year, I have a deeper appreciation for all of his effort. Thanks again to Chris for all the years he steered this huge machine.

Now to the big announcement:
The Parts Tracker is being updated!
The live beta can be found here: https://library.ldraw.org/tracker

The coding is mostly finished with a few rough edges to sand off and some additional features to add back in. The "go live" date is still TBD but I'm shooting for the beginning of February. I'm focusing on feature parity with the old PT. Once that is done, I can start adding refinements. Eventually the OMR and the Documentation parts of the LDraw site will move here as well but that's in the future.

Have a look. Play around. If you find a bug or have a feature request, please submit them to the github project:

Broken threading is getting out of hand. Rather than try to bolt on a fix to what is already a custom plugin, I'll be changing the forums to flat posting style starting Saturday, 1/7. This will get us used to the transition since the next version of the forum software will not support threading.
