  Template for Minecraft Minifig Torsos
Posted by: Chris Böhnke - 2025-01-29, 11:33 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (4)

Hello,

I've recently done a few Minecraft parts and realized that they all seem to follow the exact same pattern:

A grid of perfectly square "Pixels" on a 9x11 area for torsos (a few cut off due to the torso shape) and 8x8 for heads respectively.

Since I didn't want to measure everything again, I made a template for both parts, to ensure they appear somewhat uniform and reduce work effort. Having finished the Turtle House, I don't plan to do more Minecraft figures for a while, so I thought I'd share this template. Maybe it is useful to someone. I have not checked them all, but theoretical it should work on all Minecraft torsos.

Quick Instructions:
1) Load the torso file in LDPE
2) Colour the pixels according to your desired pattern
3) Remove vertices not needed, check for T-junc etc. (MeshReducer and Rectifier should help a bit)
4) Adjust file header and neckmark colour
5) Check everything -> Complete.

The post processing can be a bit fiddly, but I think it still speeds up the process.

This uses a 0.95 LDU offset from the part border (not including the bottom) and a pixel size of 3.45 x 3.45. This allows uniform pixels at a fairly realistic size but also keeps accuracy somewhat minimal. Also it allows the head pixels to be the same size at a 1 LDU offset from the head's edges.

Best regards,
Chris

EDIT:
There are 2 tiny triangles in one of the mid rows, which I kept to ensure correct angles. Usually they should disappear on the finalized part.

Thumbs Up Part 3958 in the "new" version w/ pins on the underside?
Posted by: Drawer - 2025-01-27, 21:26 - Forum: Part Requests - Replies (15)

Hi dear community,

I'm absolutely new here, but I have done several hours of research. I've searched the entire forum, read up on Bricklink and LDraw. And I think this is the right place for my question.

I'm currently working on a project in Studio by Bricklink. I'm using various 6x6 plates for this. It's number 3958, and I noticed that the back of the plate doesn't correspond to the current version at all. All the little pin holes that are now available are missing on the back of the base. Or have they always been there?

In any case, I absolutely need these small holes for my LEGO model. I have to insert round 1x1 items in the corners. I have attached two pictures so that you know what I mean. However, I can't find these 1x1 pins anywhere either. Maybe someone knows the number? (Please do not mistake this part for 4073. There is a small pin on the side that cannot be seen in the picture.)

I know I should probably ask this question somewhere else, but if this part possibly doesn't exist yet, then I would be happy if this could be added too.

I have also looked into CAD programs, but I don't have the time at the moment.

And unfortunately I don't know how deep the holes need to be and what diameter they need to be.

I would be very grateful if someone could help me. Maybe I'm wrong and both parts already exist. I can't finish the project if I can't find a solution. That would be a real shame, because I have already invested several hours in the project.

In the transparent version, the small holes can also be seen here: 3958 Trans-Yellow

Here you can see that the holes in Studio are missing:

Similar to 20612. It's be around for a few years and is in at least 20 sets so should probably be modeled.

DATHeader 3.0.24.0 Error Message on startup
Posted by: Johann Eisner - 2025-01-26, 16:20 - Forum: Parts Author Tools - Replies (1)

After a long time, I once again created a part for the part tracker (it was just a tile), but when I tried to examine the file with DATHeader, I got this error message.

.png   2025-01-26 17_00_00-.png (Size: 4.23 KB / Downloads: 29)
However, it seems that the program is running normally.
Another thing I noticed is that I can't create the new license type (4.0) in the settings because the program says I can't change the license text.
Even a freshly downloaded version shows this behavior.
Is this possibly a Win 11 problem?
Unfortunately I don't have another version to test.

  train magnet sizes
Posted by: Rene Rechthaler - 2025-01-25, 22:00 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (13)

to support the discussion in 9448.dat
https://library.ldraw.org/parts/27031
i made some pics of my parts:

from top to bottom:
-long cylinder (7.5mm), long magnet (D10mmxL7mm), overall cylinder length 8mm
-short cylinder (6.5mm), long magnet (D10mmxL7mm), overall cylinder length 8mm
-short cylinder (6.5mm), short magnet (D10mmxL6mm), overall cylinder length 7mm (these are too short to connect)
-"modern" magnet (2959c01.dat) with the holder (2607.dat) (magnet size D10mmxL7mm)
Also, the rear connector is always the same (could be subfiled)

I have more train magnets but have to dig them out...
i tested them, but i guess due to the age the older ones are weaker.
