Question Color definition
Posted by: Reed Hawthorne - 2020-07-13, 6:03 - Forum: Help - Replies (1)

Hey, first post here but I was in need of direction and thought this would be the best place to go. Please to meet you all!
For context, I'm a total newbie to working directly with LCAD, but recently as a gift for some friends of mine have started work on a series of custom figures and matching build. The figures are going to be completely custom, with unique decaling and when necessary custom hair pieces. I had just finished making the first such piece when I realized that as a part it needed multiple colors. The same way you see on some bricks that are both hat and hair for example.  I know this is possible in Ldraw but have no idea how I'd set it up.
If it's of any importance I'm assembling the creation in stud.io, which is also the way I've been importing the mentioned decals.
Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.

  Subpart texture file path
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2020-07-02, 3:10 - Forum: Official File Specifications/Standards - Replies (14)

There are no subpart textures on the PT right now (or in the official library) but I'd like to figure this out before it becomes an issue. I think the way the PT is handling subpart textures is wrong.

The UI on the PT submit page lists "\parts\s\textures" as the subpart texture file path

However the !TEXMAP spec states "a search for the specified texture file will first be attempted after adding a "textures\" prefix to the filename". By my reading this means subpart textures files should be in "parts\textures\s".

LDraw Model Viewer and Online Tools
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2020-07-01, 16:22 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - Replies (41)

A model viewer has been added to the LDraw.org website. This new tool will allow you to upload a model and view it in your browser. It's fairly basic at the moment but functionality will continue to be added.

It can be found in the Tools menu on the LDraw.org main site (click the red brick logo above) or directly here:
https://www.ldraw.org/tools/ldraw-model-viewer.html

This new feature is a continuation of an effort started with the LDCad PBG Generator to bring a series of useful tools to the LDraw.org website. Future plans include an model OMRizer and a part error checker.

As always, feature requests and improvements can be posted in the Website Suggestions forums.

Restore "Preserving the integrity of the LDraw name"

Orion,

please restore:

Preserving the integrity of the LDraw name
Quality and brand

Best would be in a subpage in "About Us" along with moving the "About Us" to its own subpage.

LDraw.org 2020-01 Parts Update Now Available
Posted by: Chris Dee - 2020-06-28, 21:13 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - Replies (38)

The 2020-01 LDraw Parts Update has been now been released. This adds 771 new files to the core library, including 444 new parts and 22 new primitives. Updated versions of the colour definition files (LDConfig.ldr and LDCfgalt.ldr) that have been available for download since May are included in this release.

Thanks are due to all the part authors who created or corrected parts for this release. The small, but dedicated, band of reviewers also play an important role in keeping files moving through the Parts Tracker and deserve just as much credit.

You can preview the new parts in 2020-01 here, and download the zip-file update or Windows install package here. Alternatively you can use the LDView menu option File | Check for Library Updates... to install the update.

  Third party part prefix
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2020-06-25, 16:02 - Forum: Official File Specifications/Standards - Replies (4)

Is the prefix supposed to be "|" or "*".

This post says "*" but don't know if we changed it later:

I'm fine with either, just want to update the header spec.

Our web host updated the server software last night. We are aware of and are working to resolve issues with some areas of LDraw.org, specifically activity.cgi on the PT. If you notice any other oddities, please let us know.

  Minifig Nunchucks Numbering
Posted by: Gerald Lasser - 2020-06-23, 16:31 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (3)

I made the nunchuck from the Series 20 guy, now how to number it?

BS lists the part as 61700.

The chain-links can be recycled from the normal chains, 30104k02.dat

The end-link from the  nunchuck is a dual-mold piece.

So it could be numbered as
- 61700s01, the top with the chain
- 61700c01k01, the top plus the cylinder (Cylinder uses hard-coded color, e.g. black)
- 61700c01-f1, Complete Shortcut Black handled plus a color 16 end-links and links

Thansk
Gerald
