  part rotation question
Posted by: John Antkowiak - 2021-08-03, 3:31 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (4)

Hi. I'm an occasional visitor to this site; pardon me if this question has been addressed elsewhere. I can't find it. I've just started to figure out how to use the keyboard entry method of positioning a part as well as how to set a custom rotation point. (It took me a while to figure out that the Rotation Point tool is universal and not specific to the part! Oh well. I can deal with that. Smile  )

There seem to be three preset grid settings. I might have the angles wrong but let's say they correspond to 90, 45, and 30 degrees. Is there a way to rotate a part to any angle I choose?

  Part Connectivity
Posted by: Miguel Reizinho - 2021-08-01, 19:06 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (5)

Just wondering... I have some custom part files and I have added connectivity and conflict information in Stud.io by using part designer. Is there any way I could import that connectivity of these custom parts but in LDCad?

Any help would be appreciated.

Sticker aliases for same sheet with different SKUs
Posted by: Chris Dee - 2021-07-28, 7:59 - Forum: Official File Specifications/Standards - Replies (8)

It seems more common now that different SKU numbers are used for sticker sheets in US sets vs. RoW sets.

For example, these two appear equivalent:
134071A / 24744 / 6142623 at Bricklink: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/cat...75870stk01
140413A / 24743 / 6142622 at Brickowl: https://www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-st...4743-24744

Should we create aliases for all 23 stickers 6142623a => 6142622a, etc., or is this overkill? How else might a user know that the stickers for 6142623 already exist in the library as 6142622?

We have done this for older stickers where the design appears on multiple sheets, e.g. 003437b.dat => 003340a.dat.

  LDCad 1.7 interactive animation teaser/demo
Posted by: Roland Melkert - 2021-07-27, 22:14 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (5)

Just wanted to show/share the very first working interactive animation inside LDCad 1.7 Alpha 2

https://youtu.be/el74hHfufP4

I've been wanting to do this kind of thing for awhile now, it motivated the 1.7 version, so I'm very happy with it Smile

Any comments, ideas for animations etc are welcome.

Parts Tracker - Complete Part Download Option
Posted by: Gerald Lasser - 2021-07-27, 9:09 - Forum: Website Suggestions/Requests/Discussion - Replies (7)

This is kind of a usability feature for people getting unofficial parts from the PT.

Right now the way to do this is:

  • Either a download of the entire unofficial lib
    - slow
    - huge
    - manual transfer to Stud.io+ no need to worry about forgotten subfiles or prims
  • Or manually download them one by one and the necessary subfile
    - subfile/new prim might get overlooked
    - tedious to go through all the required files
    - manual transfer to Stud.io
    + small in size/bandwidth
  • Use the LDView update feature
+ small in bandwidth+ quick- manual transfer to Stud.io

Now if you want to import new parts into Stud.io you need to extract them from the various download locations (either the unofficial files or the download folder of your PC and need to remember where to put the file accordingly)

That's why it might bw worth considering this proposal:

If a file still has dependencies on unofficial sub-parts or prims, add a Button which allows you to download "all required files"
The download will consist of a ZIP file with the correct structure inside (p/, Parts/ parts/s/, etc.) so that you can simply unpack it into the custom parts folder of Studio.

What's your opinion?

Call for votes: Sticker spec clarifications
Posted by: Travis Cobbs - 2021-07-21, 15:57 - Forum: Standards Board - Replies (4)

Please vote on adding the following clarifications to the LDraw.org Official Parts Library Specifications. The quoted text would be added verbatim. (Note that I made minor tweaks to Orion's original text.)

Clarification to Sticker Geometry:

Quote:For stickers printed on a transparent medium, the type 1, 3, and 4 lines that comprise the pattern shall be preceded by a 0 BFC NOCLIP statement and ended by a 0 BFC CLIP statement.

The pattern should be oriented such that the top of the pattern aligns with the +Z axis. Exceptions to this rule may be made on a case by case basis.

Clarification to Sticker Shortcuts:
- Require a !KEYWORDS entry with text similar to Pattern !KEYWORDS Entry:

Quote:A sticker shortcut should, at a minimum, include at least one !KEYWORDS entry in the form of Set <set number> where <set number> is the number of an official LEGO set in which that sticker appears. Only one set need be listed, but more may be if desired.

  LDCad 1.7 Alpha 1 (win+linux)
Posted by: Roland Melkert - 2021-07-16, 23:00 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (142)

Hello all,

I finally picked up working on LDCad 1.7 this week.

The first 1.7 test version is available at
http://www.melkert.net/LDCad/nextVer

Please note this is a unfinished potentially unstable version. DO NOT copy it over your existing installation.

New is:

!DATA support
It is fully integrated into the normal way of working, but it might need some additional tweaks based on feedback.

Collada export
This was intended as a blender export, but as I discovered glTF somewhere in the middle it is unfinished and might be removed again later. Unless someone has a good reason to support both glTF and collada.

glTF2 export
This format seems to be the better choice for a blender export workflow.
It is much more complete then the collada export, but still needs alot of work.
I'm very much looking for someone who wants to help me optimize the output for blender import.
It includes texture information, but for some reason blender doesn't use it. I'm still looking into that so if anyone knows more please let me know.

Besides the big features there are numerous tweaks and bug fixes, some of which I forgot to keep track of.

All feedback/bug reports are welcome.

  Gear animation tool (by TechnicBrick-Power)
Posted by: David Manley - 2021-07-16, 22:25 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (1)

This thread on eurobricks.com may be of interest. It is a gearing animation & ratio calculator using LDraw files as input. I just spotted it this morning. It is currently in beta release but it looks to be a useful tool.

Regards,

David
