  Plastic Polaroid Photos (Set 21345)
Posted by: Vincent Messenet - 2024-01-31, 10:52 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (3)

I am working on the 3 Plastic Polaroid Photos parts released in set 21345

I've been able to retrieve 2D and 3D assets from Lego Builder app and could see the 3 parts have design ID 106268, 106269 and 10627. Now I am ready to submit the first one on PT but I was wondering how to number these and I thought about two options:

First option:
106268 as unpatterned Sheet Plastic  8 x 10 Polaroid Photo
106269 and 106270 as aliases of 106268
And then 106268p01, 106269p01 and 106270p01 for the patterns

Second option:
uXXXXX as unpatterned Sheet Plastic  8 x 10 Polaroid Photo
uXXXXXp01, uXXXXXp02 and uXXXXXp03 for the patterns
106268, 106269 and 106270 as aliases of respectively uXXXXXp01, uXXXXXp02 and uXXXXXp03

I went with first option for now but what do you think about it? I want to sort this out before uploading on PT.

Hey, I noticed that this minifigure head isn't in LDraw's Database or BrickLink Studio. Thanks!

  69971 - Mini Helmet, No. 328
Posted by: Sebastian Palm - 2024-01-29, 19:31 - Forum: Part Requests - Replies (2)

Another part request, this one seems to be the only non-decoration part I need to complete most of the recent City Fire releases

https://www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-fi...lmet-69971

69971 Lego Firefighter Helmet, aka Mini Helmet No 328, aka "the new fire helmet".

I've checked Digital Bricks (which is where I got the number 328), and the Lego Instructions App thread, but it wasn't in that. The Brickowl pictures seem suspiciously 3D-modelly though, so does anyone have a model they're not sharing?

Most everything else I've been wanting other than decorated minifigure legs was in the Instructions App thread, now I just need to figure out how to do smooth some of them out... Smile

  Color Gradient Standards/Guidelines
Posted by: Chris Böhnke - 2024-01-29, 18:23 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (1)

Hello everyone,

whilst working on a part, I discovered a phenomenon often seen on printed Lego parts (and stickers) around 1996-2004: Color gradients and color mixing done by overlaying many tiny dots on a colored surface, a technique which I think is called 'Ben Day Dots'.

Example: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/cat...5D#T=C&C=0

Realistically recreating this effect is slightly time consuming (if done without scripts/additional software) and of cause creates very many polygons for a comparatively simple and small area.

I found some parts using this effect already made in LDraw, although each seems to use a different approach:

As this is a realism vs. performance issue, I guess some guideline towards this could be helpful?

  LDRAW OMR is down
Posted by: SNIPE - 2024-01-29, 17:51 - Forum: Website Suggestions/Requests/Discussion - Replies (3)

Hi,

The LDRAW OMR has been down for months now and I need to download ldr models.

the URL i have is https://omr.ldraw.org/files?authors=17 and I get the following error:

Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site.
We can’t connect to the server at omr.ldraw.org.

Also, quick question, how would I go about displaying a LDR model that I made in my own web page just like you can do with the LDRAW omr (i.e have an interactive 3D view of a model in the web browser)

LDraw.org 2024-01 Parts Update Now Available
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2024-01-29, 2:36 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - Replies (4)

The 2024-01 LDraw Parts Update has been released. This update adds 160 new files to the core library, including 100 new parts and 10 new primitives.

Thanks are due to all the part authors who created or corrected parts for this release. The small, but dedicated, band of reviewers also play an important role in keeping files moving through the Parts Tracker and deserve just as much credit. This update wouldn't have been possible without their dedication and attention to detail.

You can preview the new parts in 2024-01 here, and download the zip-file update or Windows install package here.

Thank you to all the beta testers and parts authors who continue feedback for the new PT software. This project would not be what it is without your help.

I believe 30166, variants and sub parts are missing from the zip files for parts.
