  Unintentional emoticons
Posted by: Jean-Philippe Ouellet - 2011-11-30, 1:35 - Forum: Website Suggestions/Requests/Discussion - Replies (6)

Emoticon replacement is occurring where it is not called for.

When I type ") it is converted to Wink

This is quite unfortunate when you just want to put strings inside parentheses. See this post as an example. (just try to quote-reply to the message to clearly see what I intended for it to look like)

When you click on the smiley face on top of the message input box and click Wink, it adds ;) so why should ") also be the same face.

Also, I would like to propose that we disable emoticon replacement inside code blocks so that we don't run into things like

Code:
foreach $n (0..($segs-1)) {
    $np=($n<($segs-1))?($n+1):0;
    $nm=($n>0)?($n-1):($segs-1);
    ...
as found here.

print("Hello World!");
should not read
print("Hello World!");

Note: I am inserting [b][/b] in-between the two characters that make up the emoticon in order to prevent it from being converted to a face.

Edit: This post may not make a whole lot of sense anymore to those who were not here earlier and thus don't know what I'm referring to. Just trust me, there were little yellow smiley faces everywhere... just trust me Tongue

  problem when inlining conditional lines
Posted by: Christian Neumann - 2011-11-29, 20:56 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (4)

hi,
i recently ran into problems with conditional lines from inlined subfiles, it seems to me that the control points get damaged. i discoverd this when i was inlining c-lines from the minifig head 3626b.dat file.

to reproduce, do the following steps:
1.take original head without inner part s\3626bs02.dat (or use attached file "head.dat")
2. view it with ldview, all c-lines are correct (-> screenshot 1)
3. select all subfiles within "head.dat", and inline them (i used lddp 2.0.4)
4. save, and view it again in ldview
5. notice that the conditional lines are not displayed as they should (-> screenshot 2)

here are two screenshots, taken by this steps and viewed from same angle.

using subfiles:
[Image: 01_head_with_subfiles.png]

inlined subfiles:
[Image: 02_head_inlined.png]

after that, i tried to inline the subfiles with other tools (like slicer pro, edger2, ...), but the result was the same for me, all lines were there, but displayed not correctly.

am i doing something wrong, or can anyone confirm this behavior?

  Help with Bricksmith and LPub
Posted by: Ramón Figueroa-Centeno - 2011-11-29, 20:51 - Forum: LDraw File Processing and Conversion - Replies (11)

Aloha,

I created a model with Bricksmith and then I did the instructions with LPub. When I open the result in Bricksmith, it does not know how to parse it.

Is there a way that I can get the two to co-exist? Right now, when I want to modify the model I have to re-generate the instructions in LPub.

I have attached the original (lpr) and the instructions (mpd).

Mahalo,

Ramón

  10221 - Super Star Destroyer
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2011-11-29, 15:03 - Forum: Official Models - Replies (4)

This file is (mostly) OMR compliant.

Things to fix:
- No minifigs
- No stickers (probably will not be fixed)
- The mini Star Destroyer hasn't be added (yet).
- The angle on the hull pieces needs to be adjusted
- Other model clean up

I'm just throwing this up since it's good enough to play around with and render but the perfectionist in me won't let the above minor issues go.

  Using Blender to rendering LDraw model
Posted by: Oh-Seong KWON - 2011-11-29, 12:08 - Forum: Rendering Techniques - Replies (3)

Hi,

I found a program named Blender today and it's free like POV-RAY.

It looks like having very powerful rendering and animation capability.

Here are the homepage that can download the program, and

little bit old version tutorial, and a video tutorials.

Is there anybody who have used this program to render LDraw model?

I saw the video tutorial part 2 and he recommend to use LeoCAD to convert model to 3DS format, but

then it should drop by v2.49 of Blender for latest version Blender because of unknown reason.

If I would use LDview to export 3DS file, the latest version of Blender could read my model correctly?

In case the model contain only one simple brick, Blender can read, but when I convert my another model 21005 fallingwater,

Blender didn't answer, just showing sandglass.

I have no idea and newbie using Blender, and any comment will be very helpful.

Thanks for reading. Smile

  making sticker part
Posted by: Oh-Seong KWON - 2011-11-29, 5:53 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (5)

Hi,
When I tried to make sticker part, I faced a problem with Sticker Generator.

I saved 256 color BMP file from scaned real sticker image like below.

[Image: a0111809_4ed46f7275c66.png]

I tried to convert it to DAT file by Sticker Generator and got below result image.

[Image: a0111809_4ed4740651902.png]

[Image: a0111809_4ed46f720c304.png]

When I saw this DAT file by LDview 4.1 and MLCAD 3.3, it showed like below.

[Image: a0111809_4ed4711a9d4d8.png]

I was disappointed at the result image so much.

Corresponding sticker part is here : http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cg...22303i.dat
It shows very high quality like below.
It looks like not from BMP image.

[Image: a0111809_4ed4711a1b268.png]

Here are my questions:

1. Why couldn't I get correct DAT file by Sticker Generator? Did I neglect any important option or anything else?

2. How can I get better quality sticker rather than from BMP file?

  LDView POV Export again
Posted by: Tore Eriksson - 2011-11-29, 5:29 - Forum: LDraw File Processing and Conversion - Replies (6)

How come 3024.dat is exported as LDX_3024_dot_dat,
while 3008.dat becomes LDX_3008_dot_dat_sub_part?

This makes it impossible to create generic Datshine Attribute files compatible with LDView POV export.

And yes, I use unmodified, official versions:
3024.dat - !LDRAW_ORG Part UPDATE 2002-03
3028.dat - !LDRAW_ORG Part UPDATE 2004-03
