New hinge part - and a standards curiousity
Posted by: Tim Gould - 2011-11-12, 4:56 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (10)

Hi all,

New Hinge LDraw by gambort, on Flickr

I just whipped up the new hinge part this morning (I'll post .dats when I have part numbers) and noticed it's thrown up a little 'issue'.

The real technic holes are actually centered at about 9LDU from the top of the part, rather than 10LDU like we use in LDraw. On this particular part it means that the bit where the technic connector joins the main body has a small (2LDU odd) bridge from the connector to the plate, while in LDraw the bridge can't be there due to the center and radius.

I think that leaving the bridge off is the best option in this case. But it's something I've never run into before.

  Isecalc and Rectifier updated
Posted by: Philippe Hurbain - 2011-11-10, 15:08 - Forum: Parts Author Tools - Replies (2)

Isecalc (now version 1.4) and Rectifier (version 1.6) have been updated to use dynamic memory management. The size of files they can manage is now limited only by your PC memory. Or more probably by your patience...

Isecalc line condensation method was also improved to avoid the tiny line segments that previous version often produced.

Proposed change to the LSC charter
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2011-11-10, 14:34 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (7)

I'd like to discuss changing the LSC charter to reserve a member seat for the current LDraw.org Library Admin. I think it's vital that this position (currently Chris Dee for quite some time) be active in the LSC and have voting power. Thoughts?

  Wondering about the steering committee

Not really a request, but I was just wondering why the steering committee doesn't use the forum?

Why so much delay in RSS feeds?
Posted by: Philippe Hurbain - 2011-11-08, 18:32 - Forum: Website Suggestions/Requests/Discussion - Replies (3)

The RSS feed seems updated pretty rarely (eg. I got the message for this post http://forums.ldraw.org/showthread.php?t...38#pid1238 about 7 hours later). It doesn't annoy me that much, but if it's easy to correct without eating too much bandwidth...?

Lego Universe to shut down in January

A sad day for us here at LDraw. The Lego Universe team helped us out immensely and it's sad to see thier efforts come to an end.

  2011/2012 LSC Nominations list
Posted by: Tim Gould - 2011-11-04, 21:51 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - No Replies

I'll be keeping an up to date list of nominated LSC candidates here using the responses from the nominations thread. Remember there are five positions to fill. If you'd like to self-nominate but don't want to actually self-nominate message me in private with details of your eligibility and I'll see what I can do.

Status as follows:
  • Travis Cobbs (accepted)
  • Allen Smith (accepted)
  • Roland Melkert (accepted)
  • Chris Dee (accepted)
  • Willy Tschager (accepted)
  • Tim Gould (declined)
  • Philippe Hurbain (declined)
  • Orion Pobursky (declined)

cannot display nested thread view when not logged in
Posted by: Steffen - 2011-11-04, 8:34 - Forum: Website Suggestions/Requests/Discussion - Replies (2)

Hi,

is there a possibility to see a thread with all its posts in nested form for not not-logged-in users?

I know this feature when being logged in,
but I wanted to send a link to a not-logged-in user,
pointing him to a thread, and all I managed to do was sending him a link
to the first post. This made it very difficult for him to catch up / understand
the discussion. Better would have been a link which directly displays a whole thread
in nested form, like it is possible when logged in.

Can we do something on the server to enable this feature also for not logged-in users?

New LDraw viewer for iOS and Beta test.
Posted by: Ken Drew - 2011-11-04, 2:45 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - No Replies

I am posting for two reasons. One, to let you know about a new LDraw viewer for the iOS platform called ogld. Second, I'm looking for beta testers.

Hardware requirements are an iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad running iOS version 4.3 or above.

If you would like to participate in the beta test, please respond in kind to [email protected], and I'll send you details on signing up so that you can have access to the app builds.

Thanks in advance,

Ken Drew

  SR 3D Builder 0.6.0.8
Posted by: Sergio Reano - 2011-11-03, 8:53 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (2)

Hi everybody,

finally, after near six month of nothing, a new release of my application is available.
Among its new features:
- Support for simplified racks mechanism (where a rotation axle is coaxial to gear)
- Support for suspensions (still not the spring)
- Support for Linear Actuators
- The Animation Console that allows you to create a console with your model animations starting points and
animating it in a 'real way'
- Support for reciprocal animation referred to a block to be considered fixed
