LDrawInfoTip.dll - Does it still work?
Posted by: Owen Dive - 2013-09-29, 14:47 - Forum: All Other Programs. - No Replies

Hi all.

I was poking around in my LDraw installation this evening, and came across LDrawInfoTip.dll in %LDRAWDIR%/Apps/LDrawToolTip/. It doesn't correspond to any tool that I can recall, so I tried to find out what it was.
All I could find of any use (there are a lot of posts to anti-virus forums containing this file as output of some virus scanner or other) was this LUGNET thread http://news.lugnet.com/cad/?n=9289 which at least tells me what it's supposed to do.
However, that thread (and the dll itself) is now over a decade and several OS versions old. Does it still do what it's supposed to do on a modern (read:64-bit) system?

Thanks and regards,
Owen

world record for longest LEGO train track of 2013-05-11
Posted by: Steffen - 2013-09-28, 17:37 - Forum: Off-Topic - Replies (3)

the funny thing about this is that they chose
to use the historic blue 4.5V train track.

the train took 4 hours to travel the whole track.

  Buf3D
Posted by: Steffen - 2013-09-28, 16:18 - Forum: Rendering Techniques - Replies (18)

Hi, I just found Buf3D in Google's Play Store.

It seems to be a 3D viewer Android app capable of showing .ldr and .mpd files.

Haven't tried it yet, just watched its video.

  Brickarms Parts?
Posted by: Tyler Clites - 2013-09-27, 22:56 - Forum: Part Requests - Replies (18)

I'm not looking for any Brickarms guns for LDraw, but simply the Brickarms U-Clip and Monopod parts.

They don't need to be anything fancy, just something that looks similar would be more than enough.

  LDCad 1.2 (win+linux)
Posted by: Roland Melkert - 2013-09-25, 0:44 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (1)

Hello All,

After four weeks of testing and bug fixing I've decided to release the definitive 1.2 version of LDCad.

Major 1.2 features (still) are

  • Flexible parts
  • Template system
  • Nested editing
  • (recursive) Grouping

Some minor 1.2 features:
  • Smoothing of parts
  • Up to 30% increase of rendering performance.
  • Material depended rendering (metal, rubber etc) (*)
  • Automatic editing plane (*)
  • Extended search part bin filter options (*)
  • Building book like parts in step/model overview part bin groups (*)
*) new over the beta 1 version.

You can also keep an eye on my LDCad youtube channel playlist. It features tutorial and demonstrations, I will try to add clips to it now and then. If you would like something demonstrated etc just ask.

You'll find all available versions at the usual place:
LDCad home page

Any questions and suggestions are welcome.

This is the huge 5571 model (1700 parts). It's one of my favorite LEGO models ever, you'll find it in the examples folder of the 1.2 version.

I also wanted to include this model:

But it's kinda huge filesize wise (8MB) and also I'm not completely happy with the current electric wire parts so I decided to wait until a better version of it is released in the next LDraw update. It also needs two rubber bands, something LDCad 1.3 will be able to take care of.

It being so huge is the result of it having 25 pneumatic hoses, and an electric wire Smile

  Physical_Colour Parts
Posted by: Michael Heidemann - 2013-09-21, 6:53 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (32)

I like to extend the possibilities of DATHeader.
Now I focused on the Physical_Colour parts.

As far as I have followed the last posts and discussions a part with the flag Physical_Colour should have the following:

1) There is only one line (linetype 1) in the wanted color.
1) There are only linetype 1 lines with colors different from color code 16.
2) The colorcode for this color is mentioned in the description in square brackets (fe [320]).
2) The colorcodes for these colors are mentioned in the description in square brackets (fe [320/83]).
2.1) If there is only one linetype 1 line the colorcode has to be mention in the description as follow (fe [320]).

If that is true and nobody claims I like to implement tests based on this definition.

I am sure that this definition is used in the past not correctly if the definition is correct. Please see the following part and references: http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cg...173283.dat

Request - open links in new tab/window
Posted by: Michael Heidemann - 2013-09-20, 19:38 - Forum: Website Suggestions/Requests/Discussion - Replies (22)

I would like to have the links in the posts to be opened in a new tab/window, so I can close that tab/window and can still read the post to the end.

I know that i can use the back button of the browser, but I think if you use external links, they should never close the calling page.

Thumbs Up Electric wire brick
Posted by: Roland Melkert - 2013-09-20, 0:17 - Forum: Part Requests - Replies (4)

I find the existing electric wire brick (5306.dat) somewhat weird.

I would like to have a second version in the official library without the wire stump. That way it is usable for curved wires without breaking coloring (the stump uses hardcoded poly and edge colors).

This could be fixed by moving the main body of this part to a subpart so the 5306 itself consists out of a single ref and the stump stuff (for backwards comp).

I could then use the subpart in my LDCad's deform generator without having weird color stuff going on (bricks 0, wire 16), it also makes sharper bends at the start of wires possible.

edit: Also the wire should be round and not square imho

Hope this makes sense, thanks.
