Can not submit any part since yesterday
Posted by: Ulrich Röder - 2018-12-04, 17:50 - Forum: Help - Replies (4)

Hello everybody,

Since yesterday (03.12.2018), I am no longer able to submit parts on the tracker.

The reason for this must be a UTF8 / Ansi problem because my surname contains an "umlaut" (German "Ö").
The tracker generates an automatic upload blocking:

Header errors:

LINE 3: Author name (Ulrich Röder) must match registered name (Ulrich Röder) for Author ID (UR)

... and that, even though all parts were stored correctly in UTF8.

On my well-running system, only the update of the Nvidia driver has re-established, so this was the first suspect.
But even a rollback to the previous driver brought no improvement.

Also not another browser.

No matter what I save ... whether DATHeader, LDDesign Pad, or
LDPartEditor ..... always the same unpleasant result.

Maybe there was a change on the server, unnoticed, due to the extension of png. uploads for texmap?

"The error" is usually in front of the PC .... smile ... but I definitely find no clue ..... as I said ... except the driver update ... no changes on my part.

..any idea?

  Part Snapping Language Extension
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2018-12-02, 21:14 - Forum: Official File Specifications/Standards - Replies (25)

The proposal for part snapping extension is now ready for discussion. I basically copy, pasted, and wiki formatted Roland's LDCad spec.

https://wiki.ldraw.org/wiki/Part_Snappin..._Extension

Here are some thoughts/notes for discussion:
- The wiki has a talk page for discussion. Please do not use that and have all discussions here.
- I removed the LDCAD prefix, should we add something else?

TEXMAP support added to the Parts Tracker
Posted by: Chris Dee - 2018-12-02, 14:11 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - Replies (27)

The Parts Tracker now supports the uploading of image files for the Texture Mapping Language Extension (TEXMAP).
It should all be working, including the detection of dependencies and rendering of the preview images, but if you find any problems, please post here.
There is still some work to do to support this in the Parts Update process, so TEXMAP parts may need to be excluded from the next parts update.
The revised version of the submit page now allows multiple files of the same type and destination folder to be uploaded in one batch.

  Part 15455 Tipper Bed
Posted by: Merlijn Wissink - 2018-12-02, 13:40 - Forum: Part Requests - Replies (5)

I'm not in dire need of this part, but I happened to notice that it isn't in LDraw yet. It looks very much like part 4080, but it has different studs and the back of the tipper bed looks a little different. Compare:
https://rebrickable.com/parts/15455/vehi...bed-4-x-6/
https://rebrickable.com/parts/4080/vehic...bed-4-x-6/

Seems like a not too difficult part (since 4080 is already available) for someone looking for a relatively easy part. Again, for me there's no hurry at all  Wink

  Proposed Flexible Part Language Extension
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2018-11-30, 21:19 - Forum: Official File Specifications/Standards - Replies (9)

The proposal for flexible part extension is now ready for discussion. I basically copy, pasted, and wiki formatted Roland's LDCad spec.

https://wiki.ldraw.org/wiki/Flexible_Par..._Extension

Here are some thoughts/notes for discussion:
- The wiki has a talk page for discussion. Please do not use that and have all discussions here.
- I removed the LDCAD prefix, should we add something else?
- I think we should officialize any unofficial donor parts Roland uses in LDCad
- I think we should require auto-generated fallback code. Thoughts?

Job posting: Looking for Official Model Repository admin
Posted by: Willy Tschager - 2018-11-30, 19:55 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - Replies (59)

Hi,

WE WANT YOU! As new administrator for the Official Model Repository. It is your job to pick the files people post to the Official models thread, cross-check that they follow the rules for the OMR and add them to the database. Ideally you check also that they have been build according to the official building instruction.

Interested? Just reply in this thread.

Suggestion for showing process within the PT
Posted by: Max Martin Richter - 2018-11-26, 17:03 - Forum: Website Suggestions/Requests/Discussion - Replies (19)

Dear all,
I got the request in the LAN forum, if it would be possible to bring an update with handled parts in a scheduled base - like every 2 weeks or every month.

The more I think of this idea, the more I like it. I think a list with new uploaded parts, parts with at least 2 cert votes, parts with Admin cert and parts that are released in an update could handle all these things.

I think, this would increase the user experience, if it would be a subpage with a link from the front page. Actually I feel, that a normal user is not very satisfied, that the main page doesn't change the content that often and most of the AFOLS I know, don't even know about the PartsTracker and it's function and some of them had already asked me in the part, if LDraw is dead or not. With this future they could see, that something is going on and that several parts are updated or whatever.

Best regards
Max

  Naming Convention for Text Primitives
Posted by: Ulrich Röder - 2018-11-20, 4:01 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (17)

After having read....

http://www.ldraw.org/library/primref/#misctext

.....through these rules for the naming of text-primitives, I have discovered a mental conflict for me:

The identification of the style ("Bold", "Italic", "Condensed" .... and so on) remains to be missed.

and of course, and certainly, a combination of these different styles

How should that be handled?

As a recent example:

http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cg...peswn7.dat

| Type | Swiss BT | Number | "7" | Bold |

| type | sw | n | 7 | ? |

How should the "Bold" be included in the figuring?

"b" for Bold as an initial :   "b_typeswn7.dat"     <<< about like that?

or as appendix :                "typeswn7b.dat"        or better ...... 7_b?

It would be good to add a general definition to that, including a fixed letter choice for the styles.

Looking forward to a timely happy solution

but if there is anyone more capable I would be very gratefull.

Thank you
