  Relocate Editing Compass and Steps
Posted by: Mr Hushed - 2018-08-14, 21:39 - Forum: Help - Replies (2)

I inadvertently moved my parts Bin and my Color Bin. Now, the Editting compass and the Step Indicator are to the far left. How can I reset these back to their default positions?

Thanks!

  New stud primitive for hips?
Posted by: Magnus Forsberg - 2018-08-13, 21:17 - Forum: Parts Tracker Discussion - Replies (4)

I've made a new primitive, hipstud.dat to be used on all the differently shaped hips available as LDD files.

I want to create more hips, like the genie-hip and the ghost-hip. In fact, I already have them prepared and want to upload them.

  • Does the name work? hipstud.dat
When do I have to also create a lo-res version? Isn't that only needed to fool MLCad?
  • There is sometime a small difference of the inner diameter of the hipstud. Some hipstuds seem to have a blocked inside.
It is oddly shaped and nothing connects to that hole. Is it OK to only have one version of the hipstud?
  • I remember a discusion about the tiny hole on the frontside of the stud on short hips and leg, 41879a and 41879b.
IMO one version is missing, 41879c, with blocked hole. The printed short legs also have a difference in the  small hole, blocked or  open. Do we need to make all these as correct as possible, or is it enough to only use one hipsstud? Which one? I need to create subfiles without printed surface.
  • There is a subfile for the two-coloured short leg, with shorts (Bart Simpson), but now there is a new version of the two-coloured part for Dobby. New partnumber and new subfiles?

  Formula I Racer
Posted by: Guido - 2018-08-13, 20:01 - Forum: Official Models - No Replies

Hi, I've been a fan and silent user for many years of the site, parts and software. It brought me many hours of fun, almost as much as the real plastic thing.
I just stumbled with this section of the site and I've been putting together a lot of official models. I'll be submitting themif they're not in the database as I try to make them compliant (thanks in advance for letting me know if I did bad). To start with it, here's the virtual version of my first ever owned set, the Formula I Racer from 1985.
Thanks for your input, and if all goes well there's a lot on the way!

[LDPartEditor] 0.8.45 Beta Released (toolbars / vertex window bugfix)
Posted by: Nils Schmidt - 2018-08-09, 22:18 - Forum: Parts Author Tools - Replies (19)

Hey,

I think Willy had to wait far too long for this Wink

As always, you can download LDPE from this page:
http://nilsschmidt1337.github.io/ldparteditor/

Changelog:
(3 new features and 2 bug fixes)

With this release you will be able to...

  • ...directly set the render mode (via GUI toolbar and shortkeys, Alt + NUMPAD + 1 to 9)
  • ...set the viewport perspective (via GUI toolbar and shortkeys, Ctrl + NUMPAD + 8,4,5,6,2,0)
  • ...close the view (via GUI toolbar and shortkey, Q)

The following critical issues were fixed:

  1. The vertex window stayed on top of all open programs.
  2. [OpenGL 2.0 only] TEXMAP with transparency did not show the expected result.

What will the next release 0.8.46 deliver? clever auto-completion / context menu for the text editor / usability.

The program was tested intensively with "real world" files.
However, it is still a beta version and something can go wrong in about 140.000 lines of code.

Make sure that you choose the right architecture for your OS and Java Virtual Machine (JVM) (64bit or 32bit).
A short guide how to check if a 64bit JVM is installed on your system is located at the bottom of this message.

  1. Download the zip-Archive
  2. Extract the archive content to the location of your choice
  3. On windows, double-click "run.bat" to start LDPE.
  4. On linux/mac, you have to excecute the shell script "run.sh" to start LDPE.
Please note that this software is in the beta stage. Although, this version was tested, there are already known issues  for this release. There is a potential risk of data loss.

You can search for updates if you do the following steps:

  1. On windows, double-click "update.bat" to search for updates.
  2. On linux/mac, you have to excecute the shell script "update.sh".
I listen carefully to your requests and possible complaints. Please leave me a message, with your thoughts and wishes to further improve the software.

LDPE is a 3D CAD application: The overall system requirements are higher. While I recommend to use a powerful 64-bit multicore system, it could be possible, to run LDPE on older machines as well.

System Requirements:

Minimum System Requirements:
  • 64-bit Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.8
  • OpenGL 2.1 compatible Graphics Card
  • Operating System (64-bit): Windows [7 or newer], Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor e.g. Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon II (>2.0Ghz)
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Video-Memory: 1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 100 MB
Recommended Requirements:
  • Operating System (64bit): Windows 7,8,10, Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • OpenGL 3.3 compatible Graphics Card
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor with 4 cores (or more)
  • RAM: >4 GB
  • Video-Memory: >1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 512 MB
  • For a faster start, LDPartEditor and the LDraw™ library should be installed on an SSD.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to check your JVM version (32- or 64-bit):
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can try on the command line:

Code:
java -d64 version

If it's not a 64-bit version, you'll get a message that looks like:
This Java instance does not support a 64-bit JVM. Please install the desired version.

  Train motor entrails
Posted by: Santeri Piippo - 2018-08-06, 18:25 - Forum: Off-Topic - Replies (1)

Here's some pics from inside 87574 train motor. It is sealed by 6× Torx T6 screws and requires the appropriate screwdriver to open.

First view inside. We can see that there's a two-headed DC motor, with power first transferred through a crown gear and then further stepped down.

Insides of the bottom part. The text reads "54756 04-J03".

[LDPatternCreator] Release 1.6.8 (increased pattern description length)
Posted by: Nils Schmidt - 2018-08-06, 18:19 - Forum: Parts Author Tools - Replies (10)

Hello,

this is just a minor change, but I do not want to delay it any longer.
I increased the pattern description length to 1024 chars.

Download and install the latest LDPatternCreator release directly from sourceforge.net.

Change log:

New features:

  • Increased the description limit to 1024 characters.
As always, I included a short readme.htm in the installation directory.

Cheers & Leg Godt

Nils
