we need a "comments" section at the OMR
Posted by: Steffen - 2018-02-02, 21:43 - Forum: Website Suggestions/Requests/Discussion - Replies (12)

I spotted various errors in various OMR files at omr.ldraw.org.

Currently there is no way to report or correct them.

I would love if we could add (even a simple mechanism would suffice) something which allows us to correct OMR errors.

This could be
- a comments section below a displayed set which allows to add remarks
- an upload button which allows to upload a corrected version of the file
- a "parts tracker"-like mechanism which tracks OMR models and allows reviewing them
- a button to send a message to the author
- or whatever else.

Currently, I feel forced to be very passive over there, seeing all the problems, but no way to correct them.

What can be done? What do others think?

  Thumbnails by LDView
Posted by: Jaco van der Molen - 2018-02-02, 12:48 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (10)

Hi all,

When I installed LDView I configured it to generate the thumbnails in Windows Explorer.
Lately when opening folders with LDraw files Explorer crashes almost every time.
How do I stop LDView from generating thumbnails?
This is getting very annoying (sorry about that Travis ;-)

  Rename part
Posted by: Michael Horvath - 2018-02-02, 3:38 - Forum: Parts Authoring - No Replies

I think that part 3044a should be renamed from "Slope Brick 45 2 x 1 Double with Hollow Bottom" to "Slope Brick 45  2 x  1 Double without Centre Stud".

This would make it be consistent with parts 3040a, 3065, 3066, 772, etc.

Dead links in Getting Started Mac section
Posted by: Harry Bullen - 2018-01-30, 23:56 - Forum: Website Suggestions/Requests/Discussion - Replies (2)

On http://www.ldraw.org/help/getting-started/mac.html Steps 4 and 5 and help have lots of dead links

  • Step 4
    • Introduction to LDraw Utilities 404
  • Step 5
    • Download Software 404
    • Antons'POV-Ray Converter domain is for sale
  • Help
    • LDraw.org's Help Section 404
    • The email address to ask for help does not appear to exist
Hopefully this is the right spot to post to get these things fixed.  Thanks

LDraw.org 2018-01 Parts Update Now Available
Posted by: Chris Dee - 2018-01-30, 21:28 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - Replies (4)

The 2018-01 LDraw Parts Update has been now been released. This adds 267 new files to the core library, including 171 new parts and 20 new primitives. This update also fixes some minor problems with the 2017-01 update issued in December 2017, as reported here, here and here.

Thanks are of course due to all the part authors who created or corrected parts for this release, and to the reviewers who also play an important role in keeping files moving through the Parts Tracker.

You can preview the new parts in 2018-01 here, download the zip-file update or Windows install package here. Alternatively you can use the LDView menu option File | Check for Library Updates... to install the update.

  LDView 4.3 Released
Posted by: Travis Cobbs - 2018-01-30, 7:21 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (25)

LDView 4.3 is now available. Since the last release, LDView has moved to GitHub, and has a new home page.

You can download this release from the LDView Downloads Page.
The Change History is here.

LDView finally supports exporting to POV (and 3DS and STL) from the command line. This version also ignores the UTF-8 BOM in the LDConfig.ldr file in the 2017-01 LDraw library release that is causing errors every time you load a file in LDView 4.2. And it supports textures on transparent parts.

Unfortunately, it still doesn't support textures in POV exports, nor does it support cylindrical or spherical projection for textures.
