  Wrong orientation?
Posted by: Evert-Jan Boer - 2024-06-02, 12:32 - Forum: Parts Tracker Discussion - Replies (1)

After submitting 3818px3 it looks like the part tracker image is mirrored, but the file itself looks ok?
If there is an error in the file itself, I don't see it at the moment.

Exclamation Search for part 31901
Posted by: Flo - 2024-06-01, 18:08 - Forum: Help - Replies (2)

Hello guys,

I've been looking for the brick 31901 for a long time but I couldn't find one yet, I would need it in Stud.io... I saw on rebrickable that there seems to be this brick here, but I can't find it... Could someone show me where it is/recreate it, because I can't see it using the part tracker function... Here is the rebrickable website with the Ldraw picture: https://rebrickable.com/parts/31901/larg...#rel_parts

I hope for your help, I would be very happy!
Greetings

[LDPE] 1.8.78 Released (move subfiles to manipulator / text editor transformations)
Posted by: Nils Schmidt - 2024-05-31, 17:57 - Forum: Parts Author Tools - Replies (6)

Hey,

this version gives you the powerful ability to move a set of subfiles to the manipulator, using "Move a selected Subfile to the Manipulator".
You need to pick one subfile as a reference and it transforms the selection accordingly!
There are also other helpful features, too, e.g. configuring Edger2 to include or not include unmatched edges by default.
And last, but not least the "long awaited" buttons for global translate+rotate via text editor.

As always, you can download LDPE from this page:

http://nilsschmidt1337.github.io/ldparteditor/

Changelog:

(4 new features and 1 bug fix)

With this release you will be able to...

  • ...move a set of subfiles to the manipulator, using "Move a selected Subfile to the Manipulator" (only one subfile was supported before).
  • ...customise Edger2 in the options ("Tools..."->"Options...") to include or not include unmatched edges by default.
  • ...use buttons for (global) 3D transformations (rotate + translate) in the text editor.
  • ...choose on which line the point gets projected when you calculate the nearest point between two skew lines.

The following critical issue is fixed:

  1. Rounding in the text editor did not update the vertex meta commands.

The program was tested intensively with "real world" files.
However, something can go wrong in about 140.000 lines of code.

Installation on Windows:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_win32_x64.zip
  2. Run LDPartEditor-1.8.78.msi
  3. Start LDPartEditor from the start menu
Installation on Linux:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_linux_x64.zip
  2. Install ldparteditor_1.8.78-1_amd64.deb
  3. Start LDPartEditor from the menu or via launcher
Installation on Mac OS X:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_mac_x64.zip
  2. Mount LDPartEditor-1.8.78.dmg
  3. Drag LDPartEditor.app to the Applications folder
  4. Copy ldparteditor.sh to your home folder
        4a. Open a Terminal.app and run ./ldparteditor.sh
        4b. Or open a Terminal.app and run /Applications/LDPartEditor.app/Contents/MacOS/LDPartEditor

I listen carefully to your requests and possible complaints. Please leave me a message, with your thoughts and wishes to further improve the software.

LDPE is a 3D CAD application: The overall system requirements are higher. While I recommend to use a powerful 64-bit multicore system, it could be possible, to run LDPE on older machines as well.

System Requirements:

Minimum System Requirements:
  • OpenGL 2.1 compatible Graphics Card
  • Operating System (64-bit): Windows [7 or newer], Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor e.g. Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon II (>2.0Ghz)
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Video-Memory: 1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 150 MB
Recommended Requirements:
  • Operating System (64bit): Windows 7,8,10,11, Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • OpenGL 3.3 compatible Graphics Card
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor with 4 cores (or more)
  • RAM: >4 GB
  • Video-Memory: >1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 500 MB
  • For a faster start, LDPartEditor and the LDraw™ library should be installed on an SSD.

  Parts with circular references
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2024-05-30, 23:44 - Forum: Parts Tracker Discussion - Replies (1)

Apparently, the safeguards that are in place to prevent parts with circular references are buggy. Until I can chase down what the problem is (hopefully soon), triple check to make sure you are not submitting parts with circular references.

  Sticker shortcut standard
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2024-05-30, 15:07 - Forum: Official File Specifications/Standards - Replies (5)

Our current rules on sticker shortcuts are:

Quote:- The shortcut may not include more than one part, although that part may be a shortcut part.

- The shortcut may not be a flat sticker on the flat surface of the part unless that surface is not parallel with one of the 3 cardinal planes (X,Y,Z). Existing sticker shortcuts that do not conform to this rule can remain in the Official Library and not be made obsolete.

- The sticker(s) must entirely fit on the part, with no portions of the sticker(s) extending beyond the boundaries of the part.

- The sticker(s) must be applied in the same location(s) as shown in the instructions for the official LEGO model from which the sticker(s) originate(s).
Note: The second and third items have been superseded and will be removed.

This doesn't encapsulate the standard practices with sticker shortcuts. The current practice is as follows:
- The part and the sticker should be color 16
- If the part is an assembly of a color 16 part and a transparent part and the sticker is placed on the transparent area:
   - For a solid color sticker, the color will be the color of the sticker back (usually white)
   - For a transparent sticker, the color will be Trans_Sticker

  DIY 3D-Scanner?
Posted by: Rene Rechthaler - 2024-05-28, 18:44 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (4)

would it be possible to build a 3D-Scanner out of Lego?
like this: https://en.openscan.eu/

this also has an alternative design:

.png   OSM.png (Size: 90.63 KB / Downloads: 82)
This could be both done with standard Lego Technic pieces...
It is based on Raspberry Pi, which could be connected to Lego Motors via the original PI Build HAT:
https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/build-hat/
(I already created that for LDraw)
how well would that work?

LDraw.org 2024-04 Parts Update Now Available
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2024-05-28, 4:10 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - Replies (4)

The 2024-04 LDraw Parts Update has been released. This update adds 568 new files to the core library, including 357 new parts and 25 new primitives.

Thanks are due to all the part authors who created or corrected parts for this release. The small, but dedicated, band of reviewers also play an important role in keeping files moving through the Parts Tracker and deserve just as much credit. This update wouldn't have been possible without their dedication and attention to detail.

You can preview the new parts in 2024-04 here, and download the zip-file update or Windows install package here.

Thank you to all the testers and parts authors who continue feedback for the new PT software. This project would not be what it is without your help.
