Star Thank You for This Amazing Project!
Posted by: Sébastien TURREL - 2024-12-10, 20:38 - Forum: Help - No Replies

Hi everyone,

My name is Sébastien, I’m from Paris, France. First, I want to say a big thank you to everyone who has worked on LDraw since the beginning. This project is amazing—so much has been done, and I love the idea of sharing and helping each other.

I discovered LDraw two years ago, and I feel like I missed out! If I had known about it in high school, it would have been my favorite place to spend time.

I’m currently working on a project that references LDraw, but it’s not meant to compete with the amazing work being done here. Instead, I’m looking for someone who might be interested in helping me with some advice and guidance. For example, I have a list of parts that don’t appear in LDraw yet, and I wonder if anyone would like to add them to this great project.

If you’re curious about my project, I’d be happy to share more details in private here, or Discord, or mail... I feel it wouldn’t be appropriate to talk about it publicly in this forum.

I truly admire everything that has been achieved here and want to make sure my message is seen as a sign of respect and appreciation for your work.

Thank you so much for reading, and feel free to reach out if you’d like to discuss this!

Best regards,
Sébastien

  Power Functions Light Shortcut
Posted by: Trevor Sandy - 2024-12-09, 13:23 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (7)

Hello.

A part/shortcut for Power Functions Light does not exist in the official or unofficial LDraw library.

I created a shortcut (88701.dat) by adapting a copy of Philo's Electric Powered Up Light (22168.dat) shortcut.

To compete the Power Functions Light shortcut, I changed the primary cable to s/58124s03.dat from u9218.dat, the light cable to u9028.dat from u9392.dat and the middle box to 62501c01.dat from u9422c01.dat.

My questions are:
1. What Author should I use to submit the new shortcut ?

2. I could not find anywhere a LEGO part number for the Power Functions Light but Rebrickable, see URL above, lists this item as a SET with the number 8870-1 so I used this ID. Is this a reasonable part number to assign this shortcut ?

Original Electric Powered Up Light shortcut (22168.dat) authored by Philo.

  LeoCad
Posted by: BBN - 2024-12-09, 11:52 - Forum: General LDraw.org Discussion - No Replies

[LDPE] 1.8.90 Released (drag and drop shortcuts / abs. subfile references)
Posted by: Nils Schmidt - 2024-12-07, 11:59 - Forum: Parts Author Tools - Replies (6)

Hi,

this is just an early present for Philo, Magnus and Willy Wink

As always, you can download LDPE from this page:

http://nilsschmidt1337.github.io/ldparteditor/

Changelog:

(4 new features and 2 bug fixes)

With this release you will be able to...

  • ...drag and drop Windows file shortcuts to LDPE to open the linked *.dat file.
  • ...reference subfiles on your harddrive by a full path (without having double spaces in the path, e.g. D:\folder\part.dat ).
  • ...have a quad "auto-created" when you move one vertex enough to allow a flat quad (only active during "Coplanarity Heatmap" mode in the 3D editor).
  • ...benefit from the fact that txt2dat writes the used font setting to the file.

The following critical issues are fixed:

  1. Lower/upper case differences between the filename in the 3D editor and in the text editor tab.
  2. High-quality edges (type 2 and 5) were not displayed with OpenGL 3.3 on some graphic cards.

The program was tested intensively with "real world" files.
However, something can go wrong in about 140.000 lines of code.

Installation on Windows:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_win32_x64.zip
  2. Run LDPartEditor-1.8.90.msi
  3. Start LDPartEditor from the start menu
Installation on Linux:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_linux_x64.zip
  2. Install ldparteditor_1.8.90-1_amd64.deb
  3. Start LDPartEditor from the menu or via launcher
Installation on Mac OS X:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_mac_x64.zip
  2. Mount LDPartEditor-1.8.90.dmg
  3. Drag LDPartEditor.app to the Applications folder
  4. Copy ldparteditor.sh to your home folder
        4a. Open a Terminal.app and run ./ldparteditor.sh
        4b. Or open a Terminal.app and run /Applications/LDPartEditor.app/Contents/MacOS/LDPartEditor

I listen carefully to your requests and possible complaints. Please leave me a message, with your thoughts and wishes to further improve the software.

LDPE is a 3D CAD application: The overall system requirements are higher. While I recommend to use a powerful 64-bit multicore system, it could be possible, to run LDPE on older machines as well.

System Requirements:

Minimum System Requirements:
  • OpenGL 2.1 compatible Graphics Card
  • Operating System (64-bit): Windows [7 or newer], Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor e.g. Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon II (>2.0Ghz)
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Video-Memory: 1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 150 MB
Recommended Requirements:
  • Operating System (64bit): Windows 7,8,10,11, Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • OpenGL 3.3 compatible Graphics Card
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor with 4 cores (or more)
  • RAM: >4 GB
  • Video-Memory: >1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 500 MB
  • For a faster start, LDPartEditor and the LDraw™ library should be installed on an SSD.
