A Tribute to the Favorite Set of My Childhood

This is a modernized version of the LL918 Space Transport set, using only parts currently (as of Spring, 2026) available from LEGO Pick-a-Brick online. The main design principle was to retain (or even improve) the durability and playability of the original, using similar, simple building techniques. An additional design principle was to use general-purpose parts, allowing for many alternative builds and re-use in Space-themed builds, following the structure and the building sequence of the original as closely as practical.

The main differences with the original are the following:

  1. In the absence of transparent yellow windshields and plates, a single transparent canopy is used.
  2. The canopy is hinged laterally, opening backwards rather than sideways.
  3. Due to different wing pieces, the entire model is two studs shorter than the original.
  4. Instead of red, a golden minifigure is used.
  5. Some gray parts (landing gear, main- and lifting thruster, cockpit bottom) are dark gray.
  6. Some originally blue parts, most importantly the main thruster's bracket, are light gray.
  7. Instead of a signle gray vertical tail fin, two blue fins made of slopes and bricks are used, due to part availability but also to improve on the most fragile part of the original.
