It's a Bohrok! ...well, almost

Thanks to the hard work of very many LDraw parts authors I have here an actual model of a 8564-1 Lehvak. Though, it seems to be missing a little something.

The Krana and the Krana holder pieces are still not modeled, and are the last Bohrok parts that are in such a state. Anyone got thoughts on how are we going to get the models for the Krana? The Bionicle masks in general seem like a nightmare to model. Perhaps that awesome 3D scanner of Philo's could get the mesh? It seems to have the design ID 42042, though note: there's 8 variants though Peeron only pictures 5 of them.

I still think we should congratulate ourselves, we sure have gotten a lot of parts done! I know the rubber band is also missing though that's because I don't know LSynth-fu. Tongue

Agreed, an impressive achievement!

Well, it has been a while I haven't scanned anything so it would be nice to do it again Wink
...but... my Bionicle collection is highly lacking, and I'm afraid I have none of these masks (I'll check). I should have a few parts like this http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=kraata4 from Rahkshi. I must also have a Thok and a bunch of loose parts.

Edit: I was overly pessimistic - stay tuned Wink
Edit2: teaser:

I am not happy with the grainy surface (maybe caused by rubber low reflectivity), I hope to be able to smooth out things...

That is so amazing! Definitely looking forward to the result. Smile

This is probably the hardest part I've taken onto modeling yet...

Here is the mesh... I'd be happy if you could complete the work (put the edge lines where needed). Tell me if you need minor shape improvements.

Ah, that's very great! Cleaning it up now. I guess I'll model the Krana holder afterwards, then followed by those LDD cleanups..

So I'm cleaning it up and just now noticed this:

The one I have at hand doesn't have these recess things..? Are they really on the part you scanned? I'm a bit confused now.

Mmhhh, yes, I have something there but it's not symmetrical and I have another crease in the lower part. imho these are molding problems! I edited out the crease on left ear in the new version (attached). Anyway you'll have to cut in halves...
(edit) sorry for the misplacement in thread!

It is great to see these models nearly finished. Thanks so much for your effort on the Bionicle Technic parts that are very difficult to get right for LDraw. Smile)))))

does that lid clip also count as "part"?
http://peeron.com/inv/parts/x349
it clips onto the "ass" (the two parts 41665)

Hi: I am working in the back of the krana for a while and since the only krana in the PT looks realy ugly (at least for me), I did a common shape for ALL Kranas as shown in the image. Is it worth to update the back of Krana Su (part 42042a.dat)?

I tned to agree... There are indeed similar aspects to all 8 of them. If it's possible to reuse something, why not?

Keep in mind though that all outer surfaces as well as the eye slits differ from shape to shape. There's also the mask codes (the 3 circle shaped Matoran letters) beneath the eyes which differ (though I guess these are not going to be modelled anyways).

Regarding the current PT file, I am really NOT convinced that the protrusion is that pronounced or should even be modelled. That thing does connect to studs after all.

Although I would advise against touching the official one unless you really have a new model of the missing ones. That one was stuck far too long on the PT.

EDIT:
Also do regard that these were designed to closely fit the Toa Mata Head (32553).

i wonder if i misread it but a 1x1 round tile does fit on the stud.
i also have the krana holder if anyone wants to author it i could send pics and messuarments though warning they are probably going to be ammatuer non orthgraphic pics and bad messaurments using measuring tapes instead of calipers however you could live with it and is not a problem.

Yes, 1x1 parts do indeed fit this stud (like the other 2001-2003 Masks). Even the Kraata have the same attachment point.

Please, can someone how have the parts IRL tell me if the distance (in the image, I use LDPE metacommand) are, more or less, correct? I feel it´s a bit smaller.

Not sure if I got the correct spot.

A plate fits barely inside this, and it is slightly angled towards the inside, so it might be correct?

at the top it seems to be slightly more than 3.5mm (8.75 LDU). I don't know how to measure this more precisely without risking damaging the part.

I am also not sure if this matters that much. All that is important, is that it should fit the matching protrusion on the Toa Mata head there:

So, my attempt seams to be correct (also, it need a lot of fixes). Anyway, I attach the file in case someone want to do more measurements.
