| STEP files into LDraw |

Hi Everyone! I guess simple convertion of .STEP file into .dat is not possible, so what I need is advise on what is the best way to translate it.
I have a model of a LEGO part made in CAD. It is an original base plate (no studs, only holes, designed for easier building of robots) so I didn't find a ready part in libraries. I wanted to make the plate available in LDraw for everyone to see it, play with it, maybe give feedback on its functionality. Maybe some of you already saw the project, and has an idea how to solve it: http://www.minutebot.com/minuteproducts/base/
If you know how I can do it, it would be a great help to me.

Hi,
I just downloaded LDRAW and MLCAD today to try it out.
A couple of questions:
1.
I can't find this part when using MLCAD;
http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=88930&in=S
Slope, Curved 2 x 4 x 2/3 No Studs with Bottom Tubes
2.
I'm not sure if I have the latest and full parts available...
Here is what I think I did:
The first parts list I downloaded "complete.exe" was approx 5mb (I think) and it seemed really basic.
i followed the instructions and used the command prompt etc.
then I downloaded another one, "complete.zip" and it was 17.1 mb approx... I think I installed it, i extracted it into the ldraw folder... it asked if I wanted to replace some files... i said yes.
But the parts seem the same on MLCAD... is there another step i've missed?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Jon

Hi,
I'm Michal. I'm 35 years old. I have a wife and two kids. I live in Poland.
I need virtual bricks of Early Simple Mahines set (9656 or 9654). I can't find it in LDraw.
Only few bricks are in .dat format. Mayby someone have others parts to use in LDraw.
Thanks
ps. sorry for my English

| Patterns on transparent parts: To BFC or not to BFC? |

After talking to Philo, he said I should ask on the Forum about this matter.
Should I BFC a pattern on a transparent part? If it's not BFC'd and you hit BFC in LDView (with red/green turned off) the pattern stays visible on the backside of the part, if it's BFC's the Pattern is not visible. Anyway, POV-Ray doesn't make any difference. The pattern is visible on the bottom, if BFC'd or not. So from my point of view it doesn't make any difference.
But what do you experts think about it? I'll do as you say.
