LDraw Pattern Creator/ LDPattern Help |

Hi,
I'm totally new to anything CAD (well, except LDraw and MLCad, but only moving bricks from A to B). I'm building some Star Wars models, but there are so many printed parts missing. I was trying to recreate the pattern for 30116pb03 (Panel 14 x 14 x 2 2/3 Quarter Saucer Top with Millennium Falcon Pattern) (yes, I know, maybe hard stuff for a beginner, but that's the part I really want) and came across all the programs like LPC and LDP. The principle is clear. Import a part, draw a lot of triangles, save, done. But there are the things between these points, that I don't get. At least not by tial and error. For example: I'll import the part 30116.dat. Fine. And now? How do I get one of the 15 facets to the right position? How do I position the background image right? When I zoom in the part, all I see is the middle. So, how do I scroll left/right or up/down? Since I'm stuck here and did not even get to the "draw a lot of triangles" point, I turned to the Sticker Generator, which was a suitable alternative (for me). I made stickers for every single facet of the part (and after 3 days work, not every sticker 100% accurate, be it in size or position), the final part and subparts being about 12 MB (!), which made the pov file quite heavy. Anyway, I really like to do it right, so anyone who has some experience with LPC or LDP could you please at least tell me, how do I get to the "draw a lot on triangles" part?
Thank you.

Brick co-ordinates change when I change the model viewing angle. |

Hi,
Normally in LDraw if you are making a model you'd probably have to view it from different angles and use the zoom tool.
However when I do this, it changes all of the brick position coordinates (e.g.: X ***, y*** z***).
If the numbers change then I have no idea what number to increase that value by, as numbers like 'Y axis, 11.1584912784' are hard to work with, and it is not very builder friendly as I just want to get the brick(s) adjusted correctly. (Even if I use then 'hand' tool to change the model, or use the default angles in the right click menu it still changes the co-ordinates.)
Can't we have a tool that allows us to three dimensionally change the viewing angle of the model to how fine we need it, but will also leave the brick co-ordinates to how they are.
If this was fixed:
Let’s say for example I had two 3001's placed on top of each other, if I moved the bottom brick somewhere to the left' then changed the angle to '90 degrees, left' then change that brick coordinate again, it would keep the brick position coordinates but change the axis the brick moves since we are looking it from the side it would move closer or nearer but in the original viewer angle it would move left or right.
Maybe there can be a quick finder gauge in the workspace where there is a brick icon or something but has a red dot near it, telling you where you are viewing it from, a bit like a ball compass.
Regards, Kris

What Happened?!?!?!? |

I just installed LDraw, and am new to it. Everything downloaded fine, and all was well until I tried to put shortcuts onto another account (I did not want to put them on all profiles, this is my family computer). I coped them onto the other account, and everything crashed. All of the LDraw stuff is not where I installed it, and for that matter, GONE! Where did it go, how can I get it back, and why did it do this? IT would really help to know this. Thanks

Hey,
I created a new project on sourceforge and uploaded the brand new 1.2.1 release of the LD-Pattern-Creator!
Please uninstall older versions of this software before installing a new version.
I am going to upload some tutorial videos on youtube in the next week.
Furthermore there will be a next release in June 2012 and I'm looking forward to implement and fix more of J.C.'s <<Améliorations souhaitables>> (desirable aesthetic repairs).
PS: Take a look at J.C.'s great French LDPC manual.
Cheers & Leg Godt
Nils

Patterns and color 16 |

Just wanting to add some stuff to this discussion:
I'd like to see clarified the status of color 16 for sticker bounding box. This idea (originally proposed by JC Tchang) has already been discussed here and there, but no clear decision has been made. Point is, using color 16 brings more flexibility for stickers, as they allow user to choose
- color of sticker dominant border color (as suggested today in spec),
- color of the underlying brick (useful to make borders disappear if sticker has several colors on border,
- or even... for purists, white to show the paper white border!

2012/2013 LDraw.org Steering Committee announced |

Since we had only 5 confirmed nominees, no election is necessary.
Therefore, without further ado, the 2012/2013 LDraw.org Steering Committee [1] is:
Chris Dee
Tim Gould
Orion Pobursky
Willy Tschager
Scott Wardlaw
[1] Try not to confuse the LDraw.org Steering Committee (SteerCo) with the LDraw Standards Committee (LSC). The Steering Committee sets the course for the LDraw Organization while the Standards Committee deals with the LDraw File Format.
