  [LDPartEditor] 0.8.49b Beta Released (hotfix for 0.8.49 / open-file-dialog)
Posted by: Nils Schmidt - 2019-10-08, 18:10 - Forum: Parts Author Tools - Replies (9)

Hey,

this is a critical hotfix release for yesterday's release of version 0.8.49. It was not possible to open a *.dat file with the open file dialog.

As always, you can download LDPE from this page:
http://nilsschmidt1337.github.io/ldparteditor/

Changelog:
(1 bug fix)

The following critical issue is fixed:

  1. It was not possible to open a part file via the 'Open Part File' buttons : A "\" character was missing between the folder name and the file name.

What will the next release 0.8.50 deliver? clever auto-completion / context menu for the text editor / usability.

The program was tested intensively with "real world" files.
However, it is still a beta version and something can go wrong in about 140.000 lines of code.

Make sure that you choose the right architecture for your OS and Java Virtual Machine (JVM) (64bit or 32bit).
A short guide how to check if a 64bit JVM is installed on your system is located at the bottom of this message.

  1. Download the zip-Archive
  2. Extract the archive content to the location of your choice
  3. On windows, double-click "run.bat" to start LDPE.
  4. On linux/mac, you have to excecute the shell script "run.sh" to start LDPE.
Please note that this software is in the beta stage. Although, this version was tested, there are already known issues  for this release. There is a potential risk of data loss.

You can search for updates if you do the following steps:

  1. On windows, double-click "update.bat" to search for updates.
  2. On linux/mac, you have to excecute the shell script "update.sh".
I listen carefully to your requests and possible complaints. Please leave me a message, with your thoughts and wishes to further improve the software.

LDPE is a 3D CAD application: The overall system requirements are higher. While I recommend to use a powerful 64-bit multicore system, it could be possible, to run LDPE on older machines as well.

System Requirements:

Minimum System Requirements:
  • 64-bit Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.8
  • OpenGL 2.1 compatible Graphics Card
  • Operating System (64-bit): Windows [7 or newer], Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor e.g. Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon II (>2.0Ghz)
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Video-Memory: 1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 100 MB
Recommended Requirements:
  • Operating System (64bit): Windows 7,8,10, Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • OpenGL 3.3 compatible Graphics Card
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor with 4 cores (or more)
  • RAM: >4 GB
  • Video-Memory: >1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 512 MB
  • For a faster start, LDPartEditor and the LDraw™ library should be installed on an SSD.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to check your JVM version (32- or 64-bit):
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can try on the command line:

Code:
java -d64 version

If it's not a 64-bit version, you'll get a message that looks like:
This Java instance does not support a 64-bit JVM. Please install the desired version.

  87574 Power Functions Train Motor
Posted by: Cam's Bricks - 2019-10-08, 5:23 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (1)

Hello,

I downloaded this from the parts tracker and all of it sub models. I am in no way a parts reviewer but I would like to mention that the two "tangs" on each end should allow for a brick or plate to be inserted. Currently the dimensions are not correct.

Here is a screen shot for reference comparing to the 9V train motor. You can see the dimension needs to be adjusted.

[size=medium][size=medium][color=#ffffff]TjaI hope this is helpful. [/size][/size][/color]

[LDPartEditor] 0.8.49 Beta Released (open files/invert zoom direction/selection info)
Posted by: Nils Schmidt - 2019-10-07, 18:28 - Forum: Parts Author Tools - Replies (7)

Hi,

with this LDPE release it is possible to open multiple files in one go, invert the mouse wheel zoom direction and there are some other features, too Smile

As always, you can download LDPE from this page:
http://nilsschmidt1337.github.io/ldparteditor/

Changelog:
(5 new features and 2 bug fixes)

With this release you will be able to...

  • ...invert the mouse wheel zoom direction (Tools... -> Options... -> Customise Shortkeys).
  • ...open multiple files in one go.
  • ...use a shortcut to reset the manipulator to the origin and world orientation ("R" key).
  • ...see the coordinates of up to 4 selected vertices in the status bar (there is some logic behind their displayed order. The topmost vertex is displayed first.).
  • ...benefit from the automatically deactivation of "Add..." when you focus or select something in the text editor.

The following critical issues were fixed:

  1. The scale tool and other tools displayed the manipulator with "global" coordinates when "local" coordinates were active.
  2. There was a missing comma in the selection info on the status bar.

What will the next release 0.8.50 deliver? clever auto-completion / context menu for the text editor / usability.

  43045 - Hinge Plate 2 x 4 with Pin Hole and 2 Holes - Top

43045 and 43056 are new versions of 98286 and 98285 with 2 holes instead of 3. I would do these myself but I don't have the part so I can't verify how the underside has changed.

  Cliff landscape generator
Posted by: Sylvain Sauvage - 2019-10-03, 21:36 - Forum: All Other Programs. - Replies (7)

Hi all,

thanks to a post on Eurobricks, I remembered I made a script to generate cliff landscape LDraw models a few years back.

It generates models like this one:
(higher resolution)

So I translated the code to Javascript (for portability) and put it there (licenced under GPL 3+).

You can download the project (e.g. as a zip archive), unpack it and open ldraw_cliff.html in a (recent) browser.

The algorithms are quite simple so it’s really quick.

Note that it might go all wrong on you depending on the parameters (which aren’t really checked).  It will just produce nothing (but messages in the web console if you have one).

Hope you enjoy it.
