license of files in the 2205 release -- CC BY 4.0 not mentioned anywhere?
Posted by: Johannes Schauer - 2022-09-25, 10:03 - Forum: General LDraw.org Discussion - Replies (7)

Hi,

I'm the Debian maintainer of ldraw-parts: https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/ldraw-parts

I saw the new Contributor's agreement moving to CC BY 4.0 which is great for Debian because the legal problems of CC BY 2.0 made ldraw-parts "non-free" as far as the Debian free software guidelines are concerned. The CC BY 4.0 license doesn't have these problems and this would mean that ldraw-parts could be included into Debian "main" instead of "non-free".

Unfortunately, as of release 2205, I do not see any mentioning of the new license in the release zip. Instead, both CAlicense.txt as well as CAreadme.txt and all "!LICENSE" headers refer to "CCAL version 2.0".

https://www.ldraw.org/legal-info also still refers to CC BY 2.0.

Will this change in a future release?

  MLCad.ini 2022-05 update now available
Posted by: Willy Tschager - 2022-09-24, 16:43 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - Replies (3)

Hi folks,

I just updated the MLCad.ini file accordingly to the latest LDraw.org parts update 2022-05. The .ini file defines (among other things) the parts available in MLCad's, LEOCad's and Bricksmith's minifigure generator.

Download the file from my website: http://www.holly-wood.it/mlcad/mlcad_ini-en.html

Bye, w.

  ering-48
Posted by: Max Murtazin - 2022-09-23, 6:05 - Forum: Official File Specifications/Standards - Replies (1)

Looking at few parts, I have noticed that they are using 48/1-16chrd to bound circle to the various surfaces. Meanwhile that is fine use, it causes those chrds to overlap with circular surface when hi-res primitives are enabled in software like LDView.

To deal with that I suggest an "ering-48" primitive. Essentially, it would be reverse of erings — visible when on normal quality and hidden when on high. Could something like that be added?

The discussion on the PT is hard to follow. I'd like to come to a consensus on the numbering for this part.

Any answer to Magnus's question on why this was moved? A forum search turned up nothing.

  Custom Parts
Posted by: Jeff Miles - 2022-09-22, 1:36 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (2)

I recently got back into LDraw after not using it for several years.  MLCad is my preferred editor.  I installed all the latest programs and parts with no issues.  I then tried to add in my custom parts from before and modified the MLCad.ini file to scan that folder, but none of them show up after Scanning Parts or using mklist.exe.  I then tried to but them in the unofficial folder and again they did not show up.  If I put them in the main parts folder they do.  Am I missing something?  I have tried this on both Windows 11 and Windows 10.  Any help would be greatly apricated.

  Parts with hold votes
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2022-09-22, 1:28 - Forum: Parts Tracker Discussion - No Replies

I'm auditing the parts with hold votes. Please review your holds and lift them if the issue is fixed via renumber or header edit. Also, lift any holds on unused primitives since the PT now automatically holds these back from release.

  Non-part Moved To's
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2022-09-21, 23:53 - Forum: Parts Tracker Discussion - No Replies

Should Moved To's should be limited to the "parts" folder only? That is, if we need to move p and /s parts should we update the parent file(s) and obsolete and empty the old file?

Thoughts?

Part 2550c01/c02 may should be renamed
Posted by: Manfred Schaefer - 2022-09-20, 20:33 - Forum: Part Requests - No Replies

Hello,

there are the following parts in the library:

2550: Body of a monkey.

2550c01 Monkey with yellow hands and feets crouching.

2550c02 Monkey with yellow hands and feets standing.

I think the part 2550c01 should be renamed to 2550c01p01, because of the yellow hands and feets.
The part 2550c02 should be renamed zo 3550c01p01-f1, because of the yellow hands and feets and the standing position.

At Bricklink you can find the following parts:

.png   B2550c01.png (Size: 292.98 KB / Downloads: 29)

Monkey with yellow hands and feets.

.png   B2550c02.png (Size: 262.7 KB / Downloads: 30)

Monkey with dark brown hands and feets, one orange and one flat silver arm, orange legs.

After the parts in the library are renamed, I could place the Bricklink part 2550c02 as 2550c01p02 at the Parts Tracker.

What do you think?

Regards

Manfred
