LDraw.org 2022-06 Parts Update Now Available
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2022-12-21, 1:51 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - Replies (10)

The 2022-06 LDraw Parts Update has been released. This update adds 434 new files to the core library, including 333 new parts and 7 new primitives.

Thanks are due to all the part authors who created or corrected parts for this release. The small, but dedicated, band of reviewers also play an important role in keeping files moving through the Parts Tracker and deserve just as much credit. This update wouldn't have been possible without their dedication and attention to detail.

You can preview the new parts in 2022-06 here, and download the zip-file update or Windows install package here. Alternatively you can use the LDView menu option File | Check for Library Updates... to install the update.

Look for my "Parts Library Year in Review" after the New Year (a new thing I'm going to start).

Until then:
Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad, Fröhliche Weihnachten, Joyeux Noël, Vrolijk Kerstfeest, Glædelig Jul, Hyvää Joulua, Buon Natale, Feliz Natal, God Jul, and メリークリスマス

  Parts for quick review
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2022-12-20, 18:55 - Forum: Parts Tracker Discussion - Replies (1)

I'd like these parts reviewed within the next couple of hours to support inclusion of the RCX update in the 2022-06 release:

Update: All reviews are in. Thanks.

  String parts
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2022-12-20, 1:46 - Forum: Parts Tracker Discussion - No Replies

We have a ridiculous number of competing string parts and sections. We need to harmonize things:
https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptscan.cgi...ope=header

In addition x77 needs to be renamed and the reason for the fix to 572c01 is now invalid as String was added as a category. The are probably other issues. Can some take change of fixing this mess?

James Jessiman Memorial Award for 2022 awarded to Takeshi Takahashi
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2022-12-19, 15:14 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - Replies (7)

The LDraw.org Steering Committee is pleased to announce that the 2022 James Jessiman Memorial Award (JJMA) recipient is Takeshi Takahashi.

Takeshi got started creating LDraw models in 2016 and joined into the community as part author in 2020. Since then, he has become a prolific part author, skillfully creating many high-quality patterned parts and stickers which creates these using LDPatternCreator and his 2-D vector graphics background with Adobe Illustrator. He has also become a regular part reviewer, helping the Parts Library become larger and better. In addition to work on the library, he regularly posts models for inclusion in the Official Model Repository.

As a child, he played with Lego Town, Space and Technic sets in with his first set being 6651 Mail Van (1982). His favorite sets are 8865 Test Car (1988), 8862 Backhoe Grader (1989) and 8868 Air Tech Craw Rig (1992).

His is current plans include studying 3-D modelling to broaden the range of his parts authoring.

More information on the JJMA can be found at: https://www.ldraw.org/article/222.html

On behalf of the LDraw Steering Committee, we thank Takeshi for his contributions and look forward to working with him in the future.

Interim guidance for logo primitive filenames
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2022-12-19, 1:52 - Forum: Parts Tracker Discussion - Replies (3)

Until I can get to proposing an update the spec, here's interim guidance on the filename of logo primitives:

The file name shall follow the following format:
logo-<brand>-<short description>.dat

where:
<brand> is the brand of the logo. For example: lego, ford, chevrolet, maersk, etc.
<short description> is a very brief description, preferably one or two words. For example: text, text-outline, icon, etc.

Additionally, a logo should only become a primitive if it has reuse value. A one-off part with a logo should just have the logo inlined.

While I'm not going to go hold every logo file on the PT that doesn't conform, I will review those I have already certified and as they come up for review. Authors affected should email me their proposed name change and update files.

Hey, I have yet another part request. It’s the revised long minifigure legs that were introduced in the James Cameron’s Avatar theme.

  Generating miliona of Lego images
Posted by: Jerzy Orłowski - 2022-12-17, 21:14 - Forum: Rendering Techniques - Replies (5)

I need to generate milions of Lego visualizations.
I know more or less how to generate ldraw files programmatically.

How can I programmatically generate visualizations?

I would like to be able to:
- Change camera position
- change textures
- change lighting
-change background
 - add some noise objects

Any idea?
