BrickLink colour changes

BrickLink colour changes
#1
Hi all,

BrickLink just changed the names for the Flesh colours: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1178151

Actually, it started yesterday with replacing “Flesh” with “Nougat” but now they replaced the colour “Dark Flesh” with “Medium Brown” and added “Dark Nougat” (previously conflated with “Earth Orange”).

Whoopee… maybe.

Thanks for the heads up...
Speaking of things affecting LDConfig.ldr, two new opalescent "colors" surfaced:
360 Transparent with Opalescence and 363 Transparent Brown with Opalescence (https://www.newelementary.com/2020/02/le...cence.html)

We are trying to get the RGBs for the new opal colors. As long as we don't have them it doesn't make any sense adding them.

I say we have to correct ldconfig now, for another reason.
Ldraw code 86 is exactly the same as ldraw code 128. Both have RGB = #AD6140

I think we should change ldraw code 86 to match LEGOID 217 and use the name "Medium Brown"
And also remove the word "Flesh", and use "Nougat" in ldraw code 78, 84 and 92

Maybe we should wait and see what else will be changed?

Did you read the message on Bricklink?
What do they mean by this, "Changes to the color names in Item Names are forthcoming."?

I'd say Chris has to fasttrack all these:

If you scan the library for only Flesh there is 115 files to change.....

All official parts that use 'flesh' in the description have been cycled through the Parts Tracker, updated to us the 'nougat' colour names and fast-tracked.

A few new name changes that aren’t in ldconfig (2022-04) yet:
— 128 Medium_Brown should be Light_Brown (conflicts with the new 370 Medium_Brown)
— 510 Fabuland_Pastel_Green has been finally recognized by BL as different from Lime and named Fabuland Lime.
— 368 Vibrant_Yellow should be Neon_Yellow (seems BL has finally settled on this one)

And (LEGO) 371 Warm Tan / (BL) 241 Medium Tan is missing (#CCA373 according to Ryan Howerter).

Also Bricklink now recognizes flip/flop colors as "Bionicle" ones, as well as Pearl Black

Yes, I forgot about them (not much into Bionicle myself and they are ‘old’ colours).

But here are the last colours added to BL, if that can help:

231: Dark Salmon
232: Satin Trans-Dark Blue
233: Satin Trans-Bright Green
234: Trans-Medium Purple
235: Reddish Gold
236: Neon Yellow
237: Bionicle Copper
238: Bionicle Gold
239: Bionicle Silver
240: Medium Brown
241: Medium Tan
242: Dark Olive Green
243: Pearl Sand Purple
244: Pearl Black
245: Lilac
246: Light Lilac
247: Little Robots Blue
248: Fabuland Lime
249: Reddish Copper
250: Metallic Copper
One needs to look at the parts they exist in to know what they really are, at least I do  Tongue

BL => LDraw
235: Reddish Gold => 189 Reddish_Gold
244: Pearl Black => 83 Metallic_Black
245: Lilac => 219 Lilac
250: Metallic Copper => 300 Metallic_Copper

BL => LEGO (=> LDraw, maybe change the name?)
237 Bionicle Copper => 176 Rep Flip/Flop
238 Bionicle Gold => 178 Yellow Flip/Flop
239 Bionicle Silver => 179 Silver Flip/Flop (=> 179 Flat_Silver)
227 Clickit Lavender => 218 Reddish Lilac (=> 218 Reddish_Lilac)
234 Trans-Medium Purple => 236 Transparent Bright Reddish Lilac (=> 44 Trans_Bright_Reddish_Lilac)

I just sent the BL => LDraw matches to the Studio dev team.  They were in the process of adding Neon Yellow and Medium Brown (the new one), so a few more colours won’t hurt… and so hurry up to tell me if there’s others I missed  Wink

If you're looking to have the LDConfig updated, the next Parts update will be in a month.

Well, as I haven’t seen any discussion here about the new colours on BrickLink, and as I don’t know how new colours are discussed and added other than what was done before with this thread, and as knowing there’s a new update coming doesn’t tell me what will be in it, especially not colours, all I was saying and all I could say is: “Eh!  In case you missed it, there’s new BL colours and names again.  And here are they and some of their matches.”

Also, as a secondary purpose, as Studio uses LDraw, and as the devs were (finally!) adding Neon Yellow & Medium Brown, I was also looking for LDraw colours that are not yet or not correctly matched to BL colours in Studio, so I could tell them (which I did for the ones I listed here) in the hope they would use the oportunity to add them to Studio too (which I think they will).

(On another note, I’ve “subscribe and receive email notification of new replies”d on this thread but I only got one for Max’s message, nothing for yours.
Or maybe I was still considered logged in when you posted?  Huh  Annoying.)

I think you took my message the wrong way. I wasn't trying to be flippant or dismissive. I was simply noting that there's time for discussion and inclusion in the next update.

Yeah, sorry, maybe I’m a little touchy, and, well a “there’s time” would have helped  Tongue

On the other hand, I was hoping for quick answers about the matches while the Studio devs’ attention was on colours.
Well, it may already be too late for that (you know, young ones’ short attention span… and there isn’t much time left for an August update).

I think most of our regulars are still on some sort of summer holiday or break. Summer is kind of slow in LDraw land.

Ah, les congés payés….

Well, August is also when you can finally do things because there’s no one around to bother you with something else.

Ah, this one causes a problem (in Studo at least):
BL has:
— 66 Pearl Light Gray supposed to match both LEGO 131 Silver & 296 Cool Silver
— 96 Flat Silver supposed to match LEGO 315 Silver Metallic

LDraw has:
— 135 Pearl_Light_Grey to match LEGO 131, 296 & 315
— 179 Flat_Silver… which is then misnamed or a “real” Flat_Silver to match LEGO 315/BL 96 is missing.

BL's 96 Flat Silver also matches Lego 131 Silver, in case when part is made of "soft" plastic, like most of Bionicle weapons. Only exception are Bohrok Kal shields in Bohrok Kal sets (not any later releases of those), for some reason they are as light as the ABS parts, and due to that they are also marked as 66 Pearl Light Gray

BL's silver colors is one of the most complicated messes ever

Yeah, colour specialists on the the BL forum agree on that  Big Grin

Russell Callender recently said there:
Quote:The issue is that some BrickLink members in the past have seen distinctions between the colors and have registered their findings in the inventory system and to a certain extent in their listings.

Merging Flat Silver and Pearl Light Gray is something we will likely to in the future. But it needs to be planned, announced, and carried out in a way to cause the least disruption.

So, even corporate agrees, but it won’t change tomorrow.

Yes, I know that Bricklink is going through some changes with the color system of theirs. I don't get tho why some stuff takes so much time. Stuff like Pearl Black requires only tweaking 4 parts, but it takes ages for them to do that, imagine how long silvers will take

Bricklink, as useful as their tools are, is very frustrating piece of company
