The Chinese version remains to be done, is that so?

The glyphs are Simplified Chinese: 长城
The Mac system font is close but not a perfect match; I don't know if the open-source Zen Hei might be closer.

I tried to font match a while back but doing that with the font identifying websites was an exercise in futility.

That's for sure. Easier would be to just modify the glyphs I have in Inkscape, but perhaps easier still is to use img4dat:

Hmm, the Chinese characters don't display correctly here—but they're fine when you go into the part details page:

I wonder if that will be a problem? I noted one other official part with a Chinese character in its title, so I took it to be acceptable. Or is the issue on the website side?

Which list is this? I checked the Parts List and the list generated by search and those both display correctly.

Hmm, you're right—it looks okay for me on the search list, as well as the Activity list. It only comes up this way on the My Submits list. If that's the only place it's a problem, I'm not sure I'd worry. :-)

Gosh, I think you're right! This looks like a perfect match to me—note the two key points (circled) that I couldn't find in any other font:

.png   Screen Shot 2020-05-27 at 1.23.14 AM.png (Size: 44.51 KB / Downloads: 140)

An Adobe font does make sense, as they're likely using Adobe software to design these patterns. Of course I ended up just sampling the bitmap from a part photo, but this is good info in case we need to model more Chinese characters in the future! Smile

Hooray! Should we apply the new "Complete" prefix, or leave it off in anticipation of next year's sets?

Ill mark. We won't have to do one for the White House and, as long as there isn't a non-Roman variant, I'll probably make them as they appear.

Swiss 720 BT. The non-bold flavor. It's what I've used for all the tiles I've authored (which is a small handful). All the others were done by others.

My guess of Helvetica comes from these tiles whose comment says Helvetica...

The Singapore tile looks to me like a different font than previous ones, at least in the official product images. But I could be wrong.

I was just looking at this, too. The font appears to be Cera Pro. Also seems to be the same for the Taj Mahal (the lowercase a's are a dead giveaway).

It should be Swiss 720 BT. The Bold variant (i.e. Swiss 720 BT Bold) is a very common font used by LEGO but for some reason they went with non-bold here.

The is one tile we don't have: Billund Airport. Not formally part of Architecture but packaged the same.

Should be, but ain't. Biggest clues are the rounded dot on i/j, flattened bowl on the a, and the capital M that doesn't go all the way to the floor.

Closest match I could find, anyway.

EDIT: Now I look closer, it is indeed a different font than Sydney—look at the ends of the 'S'. So Sydney and most earlier tiles probably are the Swiss 720 font.

Added one. Font is a perfect—and I mean perfect—match. In Inkscape at 100x800 pixels, I dropped in the text at 48pt size, centered it, and literally had to do nothing else. No kerning, no re-shaping of any glyphs, nada. That's actually never happened before. Big Grin

Awesome. Now we need to figure out Billund Airport. I can provide a photo if needed.

Closest matches:
https://www.whatfontis.com/NFC_FF-Jigger...gular.font
https://www.whatfontis.com/NFC_PF-Isotext-Regular.font

The 'p' is wrong on the first one, the 't' is wrong on the second. Easy to clip off the 't' in that case.

Isotext is based on ISO 3098 standard, this may have been an embedded font in their AutoCad or other software.

On my end the question is mainly academic as I can't directly convert text to dat. I go via Inkscape to make a high-quality SVG so that I can downsample it to a low-quality bitmap for img4dat. But I'm thinking it might be easier at this point to skip that step and just digitize directly in LDPE. (Maybe just use img4dat to make regular circle arcs and the like…)

txt2dat doesn't work under WINE? That kind of surprises me.

That, or I haven't yet learned how to install it. Actually there is a Mac package for it, but the app isn't built (and the instructions kind of start a few steps in). :-)

Just when we got caught up, heads up for 21058 - The Great Pyramid of Giza.

From the official photos, this appears to be the same font (Cera Pro) as 21056 and 21057. I'll whip it up at some point, unless someone expects to have a better opportunity to do so…

Well that adds a wrinkle, doesn't it.

There are also so leafy parts I don't recognize, not sure if they're actually new though. We'll find out by August if any more new parts are needed, I guess!

OK, cool. I just noticed that this releases June 1 in some of the more advanced nations, so there are already plenty of advance copies out there!

I'll plan to do the tiles when I get around to building the model. (I may not be the first to build it, but I'll do so either way.) I'll see whether I can get any usable output from txt2dat via LDPE this time…

Well your sleuthiness is better than mine since I look for quite a while for that font. I suspect, however, that they may not have used a font for this tile.

Yeah, from what I can tell their glyphs are derived from the original Gardiner text—though possibly indirectly through some PNG or Unicode repository. But Wikipedia has already done the work of extracting the symbols, and that's probably as simple a starting point as I'll find.

Good luck finding the font, but this might be the characters:

𓐍𓅱𓆑𓅱 𓅞𓇿𓏏𓉴

Note: I omitted special Unicode control characters to start and end the cartouche, and to put the half-circle under the pill. I couldn't find a program that respected those characters, and Google Chrome doesn't.
