Hi,

All models are OMR compliant (I hope it's true ... and MPDCenter says that).

Wow, impressive collection! Especially happy to see the Airport shuttle with monorail parts (I spent a long time to model the ramps!). Done with LeoCAD?

Cool! That's a lot of models! I'm a bit swamped with work at the moment, but I started adding your models to the OMR. I did notice that the three files I uploaded so far had a bit of a rounding 'problem'. I ran the files through LDcad's clean-up feature which fixed most of it (and as a side-effect it slightly reduced the filesize Wink

).

FYI: This is not a result of the cleanup feature, it is indirectly caused by the uppercase .DAT usage as LDCad only changes lines which are flagged as modified (case correction). So you could also just open it and save it again right after.

as I've seen some discussions in this forum that "flat sticker shortcuts will be prohibited".

Hi,

I am currently making "stickers" for the digital versions of my favorite official Train, Town and Space models from the late 70's, 80's and early 90's and was wondering if it is known which fonts were used?
Currently, I am specifically looking for the train fonts such these for example.

But besides that I would be grateful for any other main font types one might be aware of that were used during that time period.
I figured if I am going to make the parts I should do it right first time and noticed that some parts in the LDraw Library have used these or similar fonts.

I did some quick searches in google and in the forum but couldn't find what I was looking for. Perhaps this is a dumb question, but I am pretty new to parts authoring Confused

and figured I might ask here before asking in the parts authoring section of the forum.

Do you mean fonts for the logos? Or just the general text ("7727" and the weight/load specs)? I made stickers using a few of these logos here, but I didn't use fonts, just vector graphics if I could find them. As for general text, I find that Helvetica or Arial usually are very close matches, being Swiss-inspired fonts that would have been at hand for the folks at TLG to use. There are also text primitives available in LDraw that can be used for much of this general type-work. They are also based on Helvetica.

thanks for the quick reply! Yes, I was referring to the general text such as the train numbers and the weight/load specs. You are right, Helvetica seems to be the one I am looking for. Smile

I will check out the LDraw primitives as well, that is something I am not so familiar with yet.

Uli made a lot of font prims recently. Search the prim folder for type-swiss721bt-bold-n0.dat for example.

Are there any standards or guidelines anywhere about creating text prims? I vaguely remember reading about them once somewhere, but still their existence tends to sneak up on me.

This Swiss font actually serves well for a lot of text patterns from the "classic" era. Are there any other major categories of text that would benefit from having primitives made? Maybe some of the railway logos themselves (many of them are already subparts)?

Not really. My only criteria is their re-usability like the Stencil font which was used on a lot of stickers from the 70s and 80s and Western of coarse. I forgot, an unused text prim will be hold 'til it is used in a part - like the rest of the prims:

If I'm not mistaken, we have said that there should not be any more fonts made as primitives.
In fact you should use the primitives we have as templates, if they fit the need, but they should be used inlined, thus reducing the needed number of triangles. This will also give you more freedom in adjusting the spacing between letters.

Ah, interesting. It would also allow for small tweaks, if the primitive doesn't quite match the original pattern. (I often find there's just one letter than has a serif where the "real" font doesn't, and so on…) But using the prims as templates saves the trouble of getting all the letter strokes aligned and parallel, if you're just tracing a pattern.

And I also vaguely remember reading that there should not be any more fonts made…but again, can't for the life of me recall where I read it!
