Existing Part Edit Requests

Is it correct approach? 
Or should I just create a copy of the complete geometry and do not edit the existing part?

Yes, please re-use as much as possible in a second subfile.
I had a look into the design. It has some issues and needs a rework. Incorrect edges and overlapping primitives.

I fixed overlapping primitives and used more primitives in the existing file.

Now to the update. I was looking for similar case in the LDraw library and found part 4864. It has version with solid and hollow studs. But it uses different approach then I was planning. Studs are placed into the main file and the subfile is shared between both of them. I was planning to make two subfiles one with solid and one with hollow studs that will share another subfile (3684s02). 
Should I be consistent with the 4864 part? If so I will also need to update the existing 3684 and 3684p22.
