I looked up more pictures and it looks like my initial template was crooked.

Behind this link is a huge logo, not straight on but a lot of details, showing also the ends of the "S" which are striaght instead of rounded. I found another SVG of the old logo and overlayed your circles:

I will use this one for the old SNCF logo, it has a smoother "s"
