LDPE 1.8.58 Released (bugfixes, keys for view rotation axis lock)

1.8.58 Released (bugfixes, keys for view rotation axis lock)

Hey,

this is mostly a small bugfix release, but it includes also a shortkey binding to rotate the view around a fixed axis with the mouse.

As always, you can download LDPE from this page:

http://nilsschmidt1337.github.io/ldparteditor/

Changelog:

(1 new feature and 3 bug fixes)

With this release you will be able to...
  • ...press and hold shortkeys to rotate the view around a fixed axis with the mouse (snapping to angles, with Shift, Ctrl and Alt).

The following critical issues were fixed:

  1. The check for BFC-Meta command was not strict enough (it allowed prefix lines like "0 BFC CERTIFY CCWxyz").
  2. !HISTORY meta command: Removed the [4.0] tag in favor of a fixed implementation date.
  3. Added missing buttons on the UI for area expansion / missing buttons on "Find+Replace" dialog.

The program was tested intensively with "real world" files.
However, something can go wrong in about 140.000 lines of code.

Installation on Windows:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_win32_x64.zip
  2. Run LDPartEditor-1.8.58.msi
  3. Start LDPartEditor from the start menu
Installation on Linux:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_linux_x64.zip
  2. Install ldparteditor_1.8.58-1_amd64.deb
  3. Start LDPartEditor from the menu or via launcher
Installation on Mac OS X:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_mac_x64.zip
  2. Mount LDPartEditor-1.8.58.dmg
  3. Drag LDPartEditor.app to the Applications folder
  4. Copy ldparteditor.sh to your home folder
        4a. Open a Terminal.app and run ./ldparteditor.sh
        4b. Or open a Terminal.app and run /Applications/LDPartEditor.app/Contents/MacOS/LDPartEditor

I listen carefully to your requests and possible complaints. Please leave me a message, with your thoughts and wishes to further improve the software.

LDPE is a 3D CAD application: The overall system requirements are higher. While I recommend to use a powerful 64-bit multicore system, it could be possible, to run LDPE on older machines as well.

System Requirements:

Minimum System Requirements:
  • OpenGL 2.1 compatible Graphics Card
  • Operating System (64-bit): Windows [7 or newer], Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor e.g. Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon II (>2.0Ghz)
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Video-Memory: 1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 100 MB
Recommended Requirements:
  • Operating System (64bit): Windows 7,8,10, Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • OpenGL 3.3 compatible Graphics Card
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor with 4 cores (or more)
  • RAM: >4 GB
  • Video-Memory: >1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 512 MB
  • For a faster start, LDPartEditor and the LDraw™ library should be installed on an SSD.

Nils, I upgraded from .55 to .58 and I noticed that suddenly my middle mouse-button was not working properly and had a huge lag. I restarted and it did not help.

So I went back to .55, and the MMB was ok again.
I went to .57 which was also OK
then I went again to .58. Now initially the MMB was working as expected and resposive. However after around 10 minutes, it stopped working again. After each restart of LDPE it worked for some time.

Now I went back to .57 and the MMB is working perfectly again (over extend time, with the same files i used before)

Anybody else experienced such an issue?

Yes, but maybe not that severe.
It is related to the new feature (snapping to angles, with Shift, Ctrl and Alt), but I can't tell what's triggering the bad behaviour.
But after I press the Alt button, the MMB starts working again.

Thanks for the hint, I will try that

Didn't got the problem so far (perhaps because I use a keyboard shortcut instead of MMB) but it happened too. The Alt trick solved the problem.

I was able to reproduce the problem. I forgot to reset some state for the Alt key.
This could lead to a situation where the 3D view received a permanent signal of a pressed Alt key.
Therefore the MMB was locked.

Temporary workaround: Press the Alt key once on a focused 3D view to unlock the MMB rotation.

edit: I created an issue (#916).
