  Declaring multiple rotational points
Posted by: Peter Blomberg - 2025-05-25, 0:27 - Forum: Official File Specifications/Standards - No Replies

Is there a way to declare more than one rotational point? Usually, the point of origin is selected such that it is optimal for rotating a part around its rotational axis/hinge. However, many parts have more than one rotational point. What about adding a HELP or creating a new metacommand specifically for declaring rotational points, however many there may be in a part?

PS. This comes close to declaring clip snapping points, but that is a slightly different story.

Duplo parts with hinge AND rotation snap
Posted by: Peter Blomberg - 2025-05-25, 0:20 - Forum: Parts Tracker Discussion - Replies (10)

Official part 13358 Duplo Brick  2 x  2 Hinge Base
Unofficial part 13355 Duplo Plate  2 x  2 with Hinge Extended on Side
Unofficial part 25548 Duplo Plate  4 x  4 with Hinge Extended on Side

These parts have both a hinge and a rotational snap. Part 13358 has its origin at the top of the snapping hole, i.e. not at the center of the hinge.

Similarly, a large number of hinges have their origin at the centre of the topmost stud group and not at the hinge. E.g. 92582, 3640, 60471, 44568, 3597, and 30383. These are not following the current requirement of having the point of origin at the centre of the hinge.

Understandably, an origin at a hinge makes placement and rotation around that hinge easier. However, the three parts under scrutiny also have an another rotational axis. The question is now; which rotational axis is primary and which secondary for these three parts? The build order is AFAIK exclusively so that the rotational snap comes first (even if not used) and only then are parts added to the hinge.

What happens in the editor if hinge counterparts have different origin? Can the second part with origin at the hinge still be placed nicely? What about placing the first part if the origin is offset on the side at a different elevation than the studs/antistuds?

  LEOCAD

Wondering if any way to toggle grid on/off in LEOCAD? When working from bottom, hard to see pieces - so would be great if could toggle the baseplate grid on/off. Also is the software still in active development? Thanks, -Jeff

  Co-Authors Field in Header
Posted by: Hageta - 2025-05-22, 17:41 - Forum: Official File Specifications/Standards - Replies (2)

Some parts may have been a collaberation between multiple people. Currently co authors could only be listed with history/help metatags or comments. Maybe there could be a optional co-authors field under the main/original author. It would list additional people that did significant work on the part.
It could look something like this:

Code:
0 Author: MainAuthor [UserName]
0 Co-Authors: Author2 [UserName], Author3 [UserName]

Is this suggestion something, that is desirable?

this is one of the missing 2000 parts

there are rounded edges on the letters but i have choose to omit them, maybe a simple triangle chamfer?

install new part in bricklink studio 2.0
Posted by: coldplay - 2025-05-20, 16:06 - Forum: Help - Replies (2)

Hello everyone, I'm new here and recently started using BrickLink Studio. I could use a little help.

I'm trying to install the new part 6801 from 2025 https://library.ldraw.org/parts/44556 (Unofficial).

I downloaded the ZIP file and extracted it. Then I placed the .dat file in the following folders:

(Studio 2.0\ldraw\parts) and also tried (Studio 2.0\ldraw\UnOfficial\parts)

However, when I open Studio, the part doesn't show up in the parts library.
Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong or miss step in the process?

Thanks in advance!

  Box2-10p?
Posted by: Peter Blomberg - 2025-05-17, 23:10 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (1)

Am I allowed to make a Box2-10p primitive or do I have to use the existing Box2-11 with an additional edge?
