New Official Library Part Number Spec and Updated Official Library Spec
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2020-07-18, 4:17 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - No Replies

As part of a larger effort to streamline and consolidate the rules for authoring parts, the LDraw.org Standard Board (LSB) has ratified an update to the document formerly known as "File Format Restrictions for the Official Library".

It's new name is "LDraw.org Official Parts Library Specifications" and can be found here:
https://www.ldraw.org/article/512.html

While there is not much new in terms of actual rules, this is a complete rewrite of this document incorporating several different documents. Rules that have been adopted by the LSB but only documented here on the forums or in out of the way areas of the main site have been added or clarified. Additionally, there new rules for patterned part descriptions, patterned part !KEYWORDS, and sticker shortcuts.

A new specification has also be ratified: "Official Library Part Number Specification", https://www.ldraw.org/part-number-spec.html
This document details the part numbering rules for the official library and, like the library spec, incorporates rules from several different sources.

It it our hope that these two documents, in addition to the "Official Library Header Specification", make it easier for parts authors to create parts for inclusion in the LDraw Official Library by locating the rules in one centralized place.

With the ratification of these two specs, several pages on the main site and Parts Tracker reference section have been retired and archived. Every effort has been made prevent accidental access to these pages. If you find an incorrect or broken link or you find yourself on a page that you think is out of date, please let the admin know so we can fix the problem.

Additionally, if you find minor administrative errors (spelling, grammar, formatting, etc...) in these documents (or anywhere else) please start a thread in the Website Discussion Forum.

Request for help with military theme torsos
Posted by: Fabiano - 2020-07-17, 9:55 - Forum: Part Requests - No Replies

Hello! I'm starting in this fantastic world of drawings and cad projects for Lego. I am doing work with characters and environments from WWII and I have observed, in all the programs I use, that there are no accessories for this theme. My biggest difficulty is getting the torsos of the minifigures with military uniforms (in fact, it is not even a specific problem of WWII; I cannot find these models for any army at any time). I wonder if there is an "unofficial" catalog with these parts - since the Lego iconography with the theme of wars and armies is quite rich, as you can see on Flickr and other social networks - or if it is possible that I myself build these models for later rendering. Thank you in advance for your attention!

  The word Pattern in descriptions
Posted by: Magnus Forsberg - 2020-07-15, 21:10 - Forum: Official File Specifications/Standards - Replies (5)

Isn't it written somewhere where the word Pattern should be placed in the description?
If not, should there be a rule?

None of the parts are showing up!
Posted by: Alec Rousseau - 2020-07-14, 17:14 - Forum: Help - Replies (4)

I have installed LDraw just recently and opened up LDCad. However, none of the pieces are showing up on the GUI. Is there something I did wrong during the installation process? All of the pieces were installed to my knowledge.

correct text alignment on Parts Tracker
Posted by: Steffen - 2020-07-13, 23:16 - Forum: Website Suggestions/Requests/Discussion - Replies (13)

Hello Orion or anybody else with access to the Parts Tracker,

I noticed a strange text flow problem on the Parts Tracker which probably can be corrected with some trivial CSS polishing,
please see the attached screenshot.
I observed this problem with Chrome 83.0.4103.116 on Win7.
Is there a chance to adjust the text to be normal left-aligned instead of the crazy "block" layout?

Question Color definition
Posted by: Reed Hawthorne - 2020-07-13, 6:03 - Forum: Help - Replies (1)

Hey, first post here but I was in need of direction and thought this would be the best place to go. Please to meet you all!
For context, I'm a total newbie to working directly with LCAD, but recently as a gift for some friends of mine have started work on a series of custom figures and matching build. The figures are going to be completely custom, with unique decaling and when necessary custom hair pieces. I had just finished making the first such piece when I realized that as a part it needed multiple colors. The same way you see on some bricks that are both hat and hair for example.  I know this is possible in Ldraw but have no idea how I'd set it up.
If it's of any importance I'm assembling the creation in stud.io, which is also the way I've been importing the mentioned decals.
Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.

  Subpart texture file path
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2020-07-02, 3:10 - Forum: Official File Specifications/Standards - Replies (14)

There are no subpart textures on the PT right now (or in the official library) but I'd like to figure this out before it becomes an issue. I think the way the PT is handling subpart textures is wrong.

The UI on the PT submit page lists "\parts\s\textures" as the subpart texture file path

However the !TEXMAP spec states "a search for the specified texture file will first be attempted after adding a "textures\" prefix to the filename". By my reading this means subpart textures files should be in "parts\textures\s".
