  Sting parts (572)

The string parts are a mess. Lets figure out what we want to do and get them off the PT

Why do we care about this again? I came across this comment from Chris and it got me thinking:

I think consistency within the Architecture tiles alone would make letter prims useful but I forgot why we cared enough to stop.

Thumbs Up Parts Request (3626bpb0082 / x454pb01)
Posted by: Jose Arias - 2022-09-04, 17:33 - Forum: Part Requests - Replies (2)

Hello, this is my first post so I hope I can do things right.

I am starting a project to re-create the 1978 Catalog LEGOLAND Town in Studio 2.0, as well as my first ever LEGO set,  6258 - Smuggler's Shanty. I have struggled to find a couple of patterned parts, and I was referred to LDraw by the Bricklink help page. I can't find the parts in the Part Tracker, so I decided to write a post in the forum asking for them. If the parts already exist and I am posting this unnecessarily, I would be glad if you can correct me and teach me where to find them.

The parts are:

1. A red-haired old pirate head with an eye patch and red short beard (there is a similar pattern available in Studio, but with black hair):
- 3626bpb0082 - BrickLink
3626bpr0027 - Rebrickable

2. A white Shell road sign that is slightly curved (I can't even find the part without the pattern):
x454pb01 - BrickLink
upn0252pr0001 - Rebrickable

  New parts 1745 and 1748
Posted by: Vincent Messenet - 2022-08-31, 19:31 - Forum: Part Requests - Replies (5)

Hello,

Would any author have both the will and time to work on the new parts: 1745 and 1748?

  TEXMAP Fallback
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2022-08-29, 17:14 - Forum: Official File Specifications/Standards - Replies (9)

Currently a fallback pattern is not required for TEXMAP parts. I've been musing making it a requirement that a fallback be used even if it is lower quality than the TEXMAP image.

Thoughts?

  u9328 Tepee parts

Any chance we can get some reviews/fixes for this parts?
Summarized here: https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptreviewsu...?f=pafocus

Also, I 'd love for the patterned versions to be converted to use traditional geometry instead of TEXMAPs but that's a much more daunting task.

[LDPE] 1.8.62 Released (bugfix for PrimGen2, bugfix for TEXMAP)
Posted by: Nils Schmidt - 2022-08-28, 10:40 - Forum: Parts Author Tools - Replies (17)

Hey,

this release includes three bugfixes.
One corrects the condlines which are generated by PrimGen2 for all tori types.
The problem: the condline coordinate was calculated in a different way than the coordinate of the quad, which resulted in minor differences.

The other two bugfixes are solving display problems with TEXMAP. I noticed the issues while I was checking 2454aps5.dat.

As always, you can download LDPE from this page:

http://nilsschmidt1337.github.io/ldparteditor/

Changelog:

(3 bug fixes)

With this release the following critical issues are fixed:

  1. The generated condline coordinates for the Torus from PrimGen2 did not match the coordinates of the generated quads.
  2. The transparency calculation for TEXMAP images was incorrect on the old OpenGL 2 renderer.
  3. Fallback geometry in TEXMAP sections was shown (in LDraw Standard render mode with the old OpenGL 2 renderer).

The program was tested intensively with "real world" files.
However, something can go wrong in about 140.000 lines of code.

Installation on Windows:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_win32_x64.zip
  2. Run LDPartEditor-1.8.62.msi
  3. Start LDPartEditor from the start menu
Installation on Linux:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_linux_x64.zip
  2. Install ldparteditor_1.8.62-1_amd64.deb
  3. Start LDPartEditor from the menu or via launcher
Installation on Mac OS X:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_mac_x64.zip
  2. Mount LDPartEditor-1.8.62.dmg
  3. Drag LDPartEditor.app to the Applications folder
  4. Copy ldparteditor.sh to your home folder
        4a. Open a Terminal.app and run ./ldparteditor.sh
        4b. Or open a Terminal.app and run /Applications/LDPartEditor.app/Contents/MacOS/LDPartEditor

I listen carefully to your requests and possible complaints. Please leave me a message, with your thoughts and wishes to further improve the software.

LDPE is a 3D CAD application: The overall system requirements are higher. While I recommend to use a powerful 64-bit multicore system, it could be possible, to run LDPE on older machines as well.

System Requirements:

Minimum System Requirements:
  • OpenGL 2.1 compatible Graphics Card
  • Operating System (64-bit): Windows [7 or newer], Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor e.g. Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon II (>2.0Ghz)
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Video-Memory: 1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 100 MB
Recommended Requirements:
  • Operating System (64bit): Windows 7,8,10, Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • OpenGL 3.3 compatible Graphics Card
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor with 4 cores (or more)
  • RAM: >4 GB
  • Video-Memory: >1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 512 MB
  • For a faster start, LDPartEditor and the LDraw™ library should be installed on an SSD.

SR 3D Builder - best place to download
Posted by: Reuben Pearse - 2022-08-28, 9:12 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (1)

What's the best/safest place to download a copy of SR 3D Builder? There seem to be many sites offering downloads of this program.

Is there an "official" website for SR 3D builder anymore?

I used to have a copy on my old laptop and I seem to have lost the original install files.

Thanks

Reuben

  Invisible rubberbands
Posted by: Blake - 2022-08-27, 6:54 - Forum: Help - Replies (6)

Hello,

I have a problem with LDCad 1.6d in Windows 11 where my rubber bands turn up "invisible".

All I can see is the projected path of where the rubberband is supposed to go.

Went into the "TEMPLATES" bin and selected the "Rubber band templates" sub bin.

In that bin I have 2 choices: Either round or square rubberband.
They are shown as identical round dotted lines in the bin.
I picked the one marked as round.

I selected a rubber color (red) and placed the band where I wanted it. No rubberband visible, just its path.

Switched editing mode to "NESTED", still no visible rubberband, just the projected path AND it's control handles.
You can see my issue in the picture below. It's taken while in "NORMAL" editing or "VIEW" mode... they look identical so doesn't matter which.
Am I not supposed to see the actual rubberband until I render it or am I missing something?

Thank you in advance for any help and / or advice!

Blake
