box3-7a.dat

box3-7a.dat

Hi all,

Been away for a while but have started on another part. In the primitive reference for box3-7a.dat it says "... and 1LDu in the {y} dimension". However the box is 2LDU tall (as you can see in the image). It's already being used in official parts so it may be a little late to change the part but the description in the primitive page should be changed.
It made me wonder though. Why are most cuboid primitives 2x1x2 while some (like the box3- ones) are 2x2x2?

That is a good question. I do not know. Maybe Chris can help on this item. But maybe it is just an inconsistence in our library.

I just had a look at the primitive reference.

I can not see any good argumented reason for the different sizes. If I remember right this has been some times a reason for longer building process than necessary.

If all those box primitives would have 2 x 2 x 2 dimension (or even better 1 x 1 x 1) life would be much easier.

I wouldn't have a preference between 1x1x1 or 2x2x2. 1 would be easier to work with, 2 would save a few bytes on file size. Either way, consistent sizes for all box-based primitives would be great but at this point would require a lot of parts to be updated...
