47847 dual mold

47847 dual mold
#1
Hello,
as requested for the part 33458, I'm working on the dual mold version of 47847.

I have attached the first version I made.

I have some questions:
- The original part has various double vertices and inaccuracies. Do I correct them, or is there some reason why they were left?
- The transition of the two colors is not well defined, there is a blurred stroke. There is no way to do that with the code we currently have. Can the division I propose go?
- Should Edge and  Cond lines involving faces with different colors be split in two, or left long only in one half, as I did in the uploaded version?

If there is anything else I had to pay attention to, please point it out to me.

Overall approach looks good IMO.

Though I'd like the lower colour extent a bit further up (green lined area in image):

EDIT:
I think splitting the edge lines/conds is a good idea. Lines take their colour from the base colour of their file; so if s01 is dark grey, s02 trans-orange it might loook odd (trans-orange area getting solid colour edges).

Because the top is sometimes transparent, should s01 (bottom) get a closed shell? or an s03 as internal border?
as of now, you could look from the transparent section into the solid section...
(in the partial transparent variants, looks like there are only transparent tops)
I agree with Chris to have the split a the front higher. (just a full segment, no dithering needed)
the edgelines also should be split.

There are no rules, only good practice.
  • Each half should contain their own edge and condlines.
  • Split any edge that cross the border.
  • Add as many new vertices that you find needed.
  • The half with a solid colour, or the darker of the transparent, should be a closed mesh.
  • There is no edgelines between the halves. Unless there's a sharp edge in the design that need to be accentuated
