Pagination on lists

The parts list and search were designed in an era when there were hundreds of parts and no thumbnails. Now with thousands of parts and images it bogs down page loading or is causing out of memory error especially the parts list or searches with a large amount of search results.

Does any have any persuasive opinions on why pagination should not be used?

Maybe we could have both? Some threshold on the number of parts to display would allow to switch between detailed view with thumbnails and simplified list view?
