[Complete] Part request: 2648c01 Crane Grab - Complete Assembly (parts 2648 & 2649)

Hello,

I have a parts request for this part, as I cannot seem to find it at all in the Ldraw library.



The complete assembly consists of these two parts:

It is used in just a few sets, for example 4555 Cargo Station (1995).

That was nice detective's work...

Through the picture search I found a 12 year old post at 1000steine, which shows obviously a rendered picture of the part you are looking for.
The numbers do not appear in the PT. So where to look now? 12 years ago? -> must be Brickshelf :-)

And the search at Brickshelf showed as on of the first results this very picture. Luckily the directory contains all the files in a rudimentary format. They need to be reworked as LDView throws a lot of errors. 

But the shape is there!

PS: The directory belongs to a part author who was active here, GrapeApe

PPS: He's got user number #88 at Bricklink, wow early bird, the only earlier guy I know is #20 (myself having 78976)

There's a mock-up at Brickshelf that looks about right, but there are some weird angles on it I don't think is right.

No, I downloded the stuff from Brickshelf, and started correcting the basic mistakes, Hourglass, etc... , though

I knew where it was, and did the same. I'm half done with the clean-up. The image from Jonas looked new to me.

I cleaned up the rubber thingy, but the Attachments seem to be too squarish, I will leave the other part then to you.

Here is a preview of what I've done so far. I'll have to study your images.

I see a number of issues that need fixing.

• Create a hinge, hole and bump. Found images of it.
  
• Correct the general thickness. As far as I can see, it is uniforrm. Now it varies between 3-4 lldu.
  
• To me it looks like the main beem is parallel.

Yes, the bumps were a concern as well.

If the beams are parallel, difficult to say, there are pictures where it seems parallel, but also some where it is tapered.

In the attachment is looks to me like the left one is parallel,the right one tapered:
   

At least it seems not that much of a difference as it is in your screenshot. I see If somebody in our LUG has got it.

Actually…maybe not:

       

The difference seems to be about 3.5 degrees (setting my protractor to 145.5 makes the bottom image line up pretty well).

I came to the same conclution, and desided to leave it as it was made.
All parts and shortcuts are now at the PT.

What tool/software did you use to meassure that and create that image? I use a small plugin called PicPick.

The part looks great! That was a quick turn-around from request to the Parts-Tracker!

It is also an interesting part, haven't noticed it so far.

One day I will pick up the RC-Train Base from Thomas and make it ready for the PT.

It's an extension for Google Chrome, simply called Protractor.
