As always, need more details.
Dimension of the pin? Height and outer diameter?
There must be something on the inside of the pin, making it spinn around the spiral pole?
What does the bottom look like?

Do you have the part?

Maybe I could use an inverted subfile, s\23421s01.dat ?
But I think it might not be that complex, or long? Must be something shorter, with less friction?

I have found a copy of that polybag in my storage. The part has 3 indents inside of the cylinder. I can take some pictures and measurements after work, unless you have found a better source.

whoa thanks for the many repies!

Yeah I don't have this part unfortunatley but it does indeed fit on a spiral "firemans" pole.

Looking forward to seeing this part, it can be used with the pole to do what a gear rack and pinion does only on different axis of rotation.

Actually there is a smaller part fitting the pole, it is 23422, which is on the PT: https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.c.../23422.dat

See some samples below.

These show the part in yellow with closeups of the hole. The pin 1/2 is used to show the debt of the hole from both sides, while the 1 x 1 brick shows that the width of the cylinder from the outside is 8mm. The crossaxle shows that the internal diameter is a bit smaller than the typical pin hole. The top view should be good enough for an accurate measurement.

The inside really looks like the three bumps from 23422 centred in the vertical segment

I agree. It appears to be the same system. And the bumps are indeed vertically centered. The only alignment issue I am concerned of is the stud orientation vs the bumps. The white 2x2x2 slope in my pictures is sitting on the same studs in all pictures - that should help with this alignment.

Is the height of the cylinder correct? I can't tell that from your images.
IMO the inside of the "handle with bars", 23422.dat , is too narrow. Don't think it is the same as a stud.
That upside down 1x1 brick didn't stick when you placed it on top of the cylinder. Right?

The height of the cylinder is 32 LDU (a plate and a brick). I tried to show it in this picture:

On the photos I measure 14 ldu for inner cylinder diameter. First photo shared by Lasse show a 32ldu cylinder height above plate. Actually, he just posted that Wink

Correct. It does not stick. I have run your dat file through 4 different renders and it all looks good from UV calculation and measurements - except the inner tube width. I think it needs to be just a little bit thicker. It is currently 15 LDU:

4-4cylo.dat placed at 0 -32 0     7.5 0 0 0 40 0 0 0 7.5

I think it will me more correct with width 14:

0 -32 0      7 0 0 0 40 0 0 0 7

This is how the 15 wide tube looks around a stud:

OK, then I'll have to adapt it.
I picked 7.5 since it fit with the ring3 prim. I'll have to use 2 ring prims instead.

   

The one with bars (23422) is r=6. Mine (25195) is r=7.5

I will have to find one of those with two bars, but I do believe that it should have r=7 as well.

I have to submit some parts myself to become a part reviewer, but this version looks really accurate. Stud orientation is correct, nub placement is correct, heights and widths equally so.
