It would also help greatly if you have a copy of the real part for reference (especially verifying connection points). If not, you might want to get some images of real ones online (Bricklink has at least back and front).
Have you considered working on a more simpler part first? It's hard to tell at this stage, but it's probably a challenging one for the start.

- Latest parts update
- LDraw Parts Editor (LDPE)
- text editor of your choice (like Windows Editor or Notepad++)
