If I understand you correctly, assemblies are Lego parts that consist of several parts and are sold as such. Like minifig upper and lower parts.
For example, a tyre mounted on a rim is a shortcut and is given the suffix cxx. Where xx is a two-digit number that is increased by one with each subsequent version.
And according to the definition, the p stands for the printing, whereby the printing includes the colour of the individual parts and not just the printing itself. The only exception here is colour 16, which stands as a placeholder for every colour.
