Yes, 1LDU is common to account for the flexibility or "play" found in real-world parts. I just scale the part accordingly to line up the connection points.
I'm still hoping for a solution to this puzzle. I modeled it in GeoGebra and found that there was a certain intersection of a point on a sphere that should give me the solution, but GeoGebra refuses to calculate it…
