Request on part 6089

I would like to request Part number 6089 (The Aquashark helmet), since this part is too complicated for me to make.

Actually I would still make a request on this part: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=6919 (6919 - Dish 2 x 2 with Angled Bar), since it seems to incorrect on digital-bricks.

I had a hard time figuring out this one... problem is that 6919 reference is plain wrong, correct one is 30210. A model is here too: http://www.digital-bricks.de/en/index.ph...ddp&mg=251 - but it can be improved, the cutouts in the dish are missing.

Can somebody get a good photo of this part? There are a few out there, but it would help to have a straight-on view of the dish section, showing the orientation of the cutouts and spokes, and the grooves along the side.

Basic geometry from LDD looks ok, even for the dish itself, cutouts ar in the pictures!

Note that the Dish geometry is different from the usual 2x2 Dish and this part has a stud2 in the center!

Yes, the LDD mesh is pretty close already. At first I thought the rim of the dish was a little too thick, but from your photos it looks OK.

Are those grooves just basically hollow half-cylinders? (And they are grooves, right—not ridges?)

I was actually thinking of these:
   

Just inverted half-cylinders (with a spherical end), I think? Can't quite make it out from photos.

Also, is the top of the stud2 flush with the rim of the dish? Or is it actually recessed a bit, as in the LDD mesh?

Ah, yes, now I understood, a picture is worth a thousand words :-)

This is in my opinion a molding artifact. The hollow stud is terminated with a smaller hole (smaller than 4 LDU) and this extends a bit further into the part and interestingly around the corner. I guess as the plastic cooled down this was pulled "inside" I should have another one as well to verify how this looks in different parts.

So no, it is not a ridge, the part is as the LDD data shows, a normal bar diameter.

Ah, so it's completely internal—that's why I couldn't work out how it aligns with the dish spokes. And that's great, because I was kind of thinking about skipping that bit anyway.  Tongue

Thoughts? Does the dish look rather too thick at all, especially through the cutouts?

   

I know there are some edges missing, and I need to fix the a-rings…and then figure out how to join the angled part of the bar. Confused

On the plus side, we get four new hi-res ring primitives because of the 1/12th ratio of the spokes. Big Grin

I would make it thinner, the 2x2 dish available is around 2.4 LDU think, go in that direction

Here's how I constructed the handle, you can then basicall replace the "top" file.

The file includes a LDD overlay.

Yes, I think it should have the same overall proportions as the 2x2 dish. The bowl just a bit thinner/shallower, and the collar around the shaft a bit taller. Overall height 12 LDU (it's now 12.5, so that's negligible).

And I think the stud2 should indeed be flush with the rim, otherwise you'd get collisions with the inner surface of the dish.

I had to deconstruct the stud2 primitive in order for it to mate with the 48 prims. That won't cause an issue, will it?
