Modulex parts library

Hi,

transferring content from the old site we, the content managers, update also the information. In this process I added some alternative parts libraries using the LDraw File Format to the new site:

I'd like to see also Modulex among those. Since there were some objections in the past submitting them to the PT:

I would go for a link to the modulex page:

but it seams essential to me that there is also a download link. Any chance to add it?

My feeling is that they were produced by LEGO so are therefore free game for PT submission. It's unfortunate the the existing work is not Library compatible but I have zero objections to new work being submitted.

Headers would need re-formatting, but the main issue is the scale. Tore and I made these at a scale that is only compatible within the Modulex Library itself (i.e. a Modulex Stud pitch of 20LDu), so the parts are not compatible with LEGO System parts. A download of the existing "library" would be possible. I am happy to share mine, but Tore would need to agree for his parts.

Sorry, I haven't seen this post until today. Yes, I agree for my parts. It's also ok to rename them and edit them at will.

You can mix LEGO System parts with Modulex parts if you make a separate Modulex sub-model and scale it down by 0.625

Example:
1 7 0 -192 -50 0.625 0 0 0 0.625 0 0 0 0.625 Modulex_submodel.ldr

If you decide to add Modulex part to the library, you may consider to add Modulex exclusive colors to LDConifig, too. Back in 2011, I played around a little with the colors, and this is the file I made. I guess the 3004's are Modulex colors and the surrounding 3005's are for comparising.

They don't really interconnect with LEGO parts. A 16 Modulex-stud wide section fits inside a 10 LEGO-stud wide gap and (due to the different aspect ratio) a 16 Modulex-brick high section fits inside a 25 LEGO-plate high gap.

The dilemma I have with incorporating the Modulex parts into the main LDraw library is one of usability within model authoring tools. The existing library was created with the traditional stud pitch of 20 units, so working with just the Modulex library it is very easy to position parts on a 20x20 grid using the default movement keys. If we scale down to be physically compatible with the LDraw library, someone wanting to build entirely in Modulex would need to change the movement defaults to 12.5 and multiples thereof. Is this acceptable?

pick corresponding sizes to bring the 2 universes together.

We should not compensate a minor lack in editors which do not allow a user to change the grid configuration.

This can be added easily into every 3D editor.

It just needs to be done.

I agree. Every editor I’ve used has made it trivial to set custom grid settings.
