  Part zip file downloads.
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2024-04-04, 14:45 - Forum: Parts Tracker Discussion - Replies (1)

I've added the ability to download a zip file of all the unofficial parts/subparts/prims for a particular part. This is only for Parts/Shortcuts and only those that actually have subparts. The download will show as a "Download ZIP rollup" button on the part detail page.

  New color in LDCad
Posted by: Paweł Turalski - 2024-04-02, 17:07 - Forum: LDraw Editors and Viewers - Replies (31)

Hi guys, in this year we got the new color - reddish orange. I wanted to build the set 42179 to share it here https://forums.ldraw.org/thread-27891.html but unfortunately this color is not available in Ldraw. So I tried my skills and opened my Ldconfig file in notepad and added this:

0                              // LEGOID 167 - Reddish Orange
0 !COLOUR Reddish_Orange                                        CODE 1136  VALUE #CA4C0B  EDGE #333333

Based on the Bricklink and Rebrickable

.jpg   bricklink.jpg (Size: 17.7 KB / Downloads: 420)

And for me it works, so I think the model is ready to share. However, other users do not have this color, so I am not sure is it good moment to share or wait. How others can get it? Add the color manually? Wait for an update?
Here is the finished model where you can see the reddish orange rings:

But I have one more question - why the program shows me another color as missing if I added only reddish orange?

[LDPE] 1.8.77 Released (avg precision / rotation bug / triangle-to-quad conversion)
Posted by: Nils Schmidt - 2024-03-26, 18:58 - Forum: Parts Author Tools - Replies (5)

Hi,

this version increases the accuracy for the calculation of the average point of the selection (affects "Move the Manipulator to the Average Point of the Selection").
It also fixes another rotation bug regarding the manipulator and corrected a minor problem with the triangle-to-quad conversion on selected objects.

As always, you can download LDPE from this page:

http://nilsschmidt1337.github.io/ldparteditor/

Changelog:

(1 new feature and 2 bug fixes)

With this release you will be able to...

  • ...benefit from improved accuracy of "Move the Manipulator to the Average Point of the Selection".

The following critical issues are fixed:

  1. Sometimes, the 3D manipulator rotated the object instead of moving it.
  2. Sometimes, the triangle to quad conversion tool didn't use the selected triangles, but another nearby one.

The program was tested intensively with "real world" files.
However, something can go wrong in about 140.000 lines of code.

Installation on Windows:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_win32_x64.zip
  2. Run LDPartEditor-1.8.77.msi
  3. Start LDPartEditor from the start menu
Installation on Linux:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_linux_x64.zip
  2. Install ldparteditor_1.8.77-1_amd64.deb
  3. Start LDPartEditor from the menu or via launcher
Installation on Mac OS X:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_mac_x64.zip
  2. Mount LDPartEditor-1.8.77.dmg
  3. Drag LDPartEditor.app to the Applications folder
  4. Copy ldparteditor.sh to your home folder
        4a. Open a Terminal.app and run ./ldparteditor.sh
        4b. Or open a Terminal.app and run /Applications/LDPartEditor.app/Contents/MacOS/LDPartEditor

I listen carefully to your requests and possible complaints. Please leave me a message, with your thoughts and wishes to further improve the software.

LDPE is a 3D CAD application: The overall system requirements are higher. While I recommend to use a powerful 64-bit multicore system, it could be possible, to run LDPE on older machines as well.

System Requirements:

Minimum System Requirements:
  • OpenGL 2.1 compatible Graphics Card
  • Operating System (64-bit): Windows [7 or newer], Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor e.g. Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon II (>2.0Ghz)
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Video-Memory: 1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 150 MB
Recommended Requirements:
  • Operating System (64bit): Windows 7,8,10,11, Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • OpenGL 3.3 compatible Graphics Card
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor with 4 cores (or more)
  • RAM: >4 GB
  • Video-Memory: >1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 500 MB
  • For a faster start, LDPartEditor and the LDraw™ library should be installed on an SSD.

  LDRAW Wiki Logo broken
Posted by: Steffen - 2024-03-26, 14:46 - Forum: Website Suggestions/Requests/Discussion - Replies (2)

Hi,

the logo in the top left corner of the LDRAW Wiki is broken:
https://wiki.ldraw.org/wiki/Category:Software

The reason is that the configured image
https://wiki.ldraw.org/common/images/ban...ki-red.png
(probably configured in LocalSettings.php)
does not exist anymore.

I tried to fix this by adjusting the CSS at
https://wiki.ldraw.org/index.php?title=M...oldid=6906
, but failed, because this setting is overwritten by LocalSettings.php I think.

Thus, I ask someone with access to the server to change the configuration in LocalSettings.php and let the configured image URL be
https://wiki.ldraw.org/images/6/60/Wiki_Logo.png

thanks
Steffen

linking to a specific part on PT
Posted by: Steffen - 2024-03-25, 21:53 - Forum: Website Suggestions/Requests/Discussion - Replies (2)

The previous (old) PT had the part filename in its URL when looking at the details of a part.
The new one uses an independent scheme for the URLs, for example:
the file 3010p0h.dat is stored on page
https://library.ldraw.org/tracker/35126

Thus, it has become more difficult to link to a dedicated part file on the PT
when you only know the part filename but not the internal index of the PT.

Currently as a workaround you can use the "search" link, which takes a part filename as input.
Example:
https://library.ldraw.org/search/part?s=3010p0h.dat

But executing that search
* wastes unnecessary server time and also
* may yield false positive results (i.e. all files which CONTAIN that character sequence).

Thus I would like to request a specialized URL which will take me to a specific LDRAW file, for example
https://library.ldraw.org/goto/3010p0h.dat
or
https://library.ldraw.org/goto/parts/3010p0h.dat

The latter will force me to specify/know whether the file represents a part, primitive or subfile.
That's probably a good solution, because we already have examples of filenames which occur
both in the "p" and the "parts" folder. Thus, it would be good if the "goto" URL includes the folder.

Maybe such an URL already exists and I just don't know it?

Question wheels+tyres: correct the 6 odd files out of 320+
Posted by: Steffen - 2024-03-25, 13:13 - Forum: Parts Authoring - Replies (3)

Hi LDRAW friends,

when looking at our wheels+tyres collection...:

...you will notice that 6 out of the 320 files are wrongly oriented (marked in pink).

As that number is very small, I think it would be acceptable to create corrected variants of these 6
(as NEW part files, of course, to not break existing models)
and make the wrongly oriented ones a MOVED-TO to the correct ones.

The new part number would simply be adding a "...b" suffix to the existing one.

I would like to volunteer to do this, but first I would like to request an OK for this from the other
experienced parts authors / the SteerCo

Opinions? It is just 6 files and would make our library consistent.

I would be very happy looking at the wheels above and see them all oriented the same way.

...Steffen

Hi,
i would ask if exist an easiest way to create a .dat file for this unofficial piece? Is there an application that allows scanning the object and creating the file?

LDraw.org 2024-02 Parts Update Now Available
Posted by: Orion Pobursky - 2024-03-24, 17:43 - Forum: LDraw.org Announcements - Replies (5)

The 2024-02 LDraw Parts Update has been released. This update adds 326 new files to the core library, including 49 new parts and 243 new primitives.

The primitive number above is a bit deceptive. In this update we transitioned all the ring primitives from the old DOS 8.3 filename to (e.g. 4-4rin10.dat) to fully correct filenames (e.g. 4-4ring10.dat). All the newly renamed rings are considered "new" by the parts tracker software.

Special shout out to Willy Tschager who rewrote all of the CC_BY_2 primitives. They didn't all make it into this update but we'll try to have them ready for 2024-03.

Thanks are due to all the part authors who created or corrected parts for this release. The small, but dedicated, band of reviewers also play an important role in keeping files moving through the Parts Tracker and deserve just as much credit. This update wouldn't have been possible without their dedication and attention to detail.

You can preview the new parts in 2024-02 here, and download the zip-file update or Windows install package here.

Thank you to all the beta testers and parts authors who continue feedback for the new PT software. This project would not be what it is without your help.
